Clean, friendly atmosphere & a great place for someone in the country who needs a bed in town.

They need to make their T&C’s clearer for group bookings online. I tried to cancel 1 person for a refund of all nights excluding the first as stated in the confirmation email but we were told that’s not possible.quite annoyed.

Judging by the mental illness stigmatising of certain reviewers, such as Bakshi that make you wonder about the reviewers mental health or their lack of sanity and rationality. Bakshi is obviously not a particularly accepting type of person, apart from their poorly worded review. Enough is enough, you people, have made your prejudicial opinions heard, and they reasonable opinions heard, in fact prejudicial opinions are wacky, you bullies. Grow-up and start accepting others differences. Respect others boundaries, etc.etc. These people have ideas in their head or prejudices that affect how they treat other people, their ideas are fixed. We are not living in Eastern Europe during the Soviet Union, or the 19th century.

Very limited check in hours. I had notified of my expected time of arrival to be outside these hours and received no response. Upon arrival, I followed the instructions on the reception door to go to the back entrance and from their proceeded to phone the number on the wall for 'late check in', but despite numerous attempts by myself and another, the phone was never answered, leaving me locked out the hostel.

Thank you to the man staying long term who happened to walk past and who had the owners personal number, so offered to call the owner directly so that I could get access to my keys and room!

Additionally, it was damp in a lot of the rooms. Disturbed by contractors coming to assess the damp, although this would suggest the issues are being addressed.

It wasn’t as bad as the reviews. I didn’t get stolen anything and didn’t catch any sickness in there. There are actually people cooking there and socializing. An interesting experience was - One night I come back through the night entry and there was a girl rolling a joint at the door. I got in, went up the stairs, and I saw a kid having fun in the lounge with her parent. It’s rare where a place can have such real diversity of people and openness.

Central city hostel, very barebones but does what it says on the tin. Great location but pretty bare inside.

Room was fine but smelled like someone had dumped a bottle of air freshener in it for my entire 2 day stay, next room over smelled terrible so likely them trying to cover a leak.

Stairs with no lift access so non wheelchair accessible.

Staff friendly on the phone, rang ahead to let them know I'd be a late check in. They thankfully have a service to leave keys out in lockboxes for collection for late arrivals.

Nice hostel in Hobart, rooms are spacious, lounge rooms are really good and you can meet a lot of nice people.

Room was disgusting, stains all over the walls, wooden floors with paint missing! The bathrooms smelt so strongly of pee I found myself not wanting to have a shower. My windows was broken and I had to use a jar of Nutella to hold it open. I wish I'd paid the tiny bit more to stay at YHA.truly the only redeemable factor was a soft bed. However in saying that the doonah did not even cover the mattress and my feet were poking out half the night. Worst hostel I've stayed in Australia

It's full of homeless junkies. I very much regret booking the place. I've travel half the world and the whole of Australia and this is the worse place I've stayed, even the guy at reception was terrible.

This is a horrible place. Horrid customer service, filthy rooms, no hot water etc. The rooms were filthy, with white marks on the walls, dirt in the mattress and the edges of the room, and cardboard on windows to block the light. The man that worked the reception was barely there, and gave no explanation on where the bathrooms and bedroom was. I didn't even know there was a kitchen here until reading the reviews. Honestly thought this was a cheap hook up hotel with how it looked and the cleanliness. Don't come here to be cheap. Just spend the extra $50 somewhere else.

My partner and I booked a private Queen room here for Dark Mofo and chose it over the similarly priced YHA. We stayed at the YHA our last night because the Imperial did not give us an option to adjust our booking and we found the pair to be vastly different.

This is an older building with a bit of character, but also a lot of issues.
The huge ceilings and old floorboards made it difficult to heat. It's layout could be a little confusing, but something you could get used to.
The room was pretty dirty and lacked basic furniture (bed + locker, no tabletop space). On the other hand, the large common area was pretty cool and inviting.
I almost gave this place a 2 star rating just because of the showers though. The absolute worst I've ever seen in a hostel, with a minimum of 2 bandaids in each when I first went to use them. The floors and walls were shockingly dirty and the formerly white shower curtains were such a vibrant grimy yellow that I almost refused to touch them. This surprised me though, as the rest of the toilets/bathroom seemed very clean in comparison.

The staff were friendly to us on reception and considered changing rooms for us due to my leg injury and mobility issues. Unfortunately, there were no queen rooms on the ground or first floor.
There were lots of laminated paper signs up in the room and toilets with very specific rules. It seems they may have been burned before and felt the need to add new rules for each of these.
It seemed that a fair few of the people staying here were long time residents, but the ones we met were exceptionally nice.

- Note to the owner/Managers: “One single person of your team can literally destroy the reputation of your business”.

- Writing it to highlight a situation that I had when checking out today, 1st of June 2022, where an “Asian woman” described like this because she didn’t have any identification and didn’t want say her name, was horrible on her customer service. She doesn’t listen to the customer and acts like a robot. After a long stay in this Hotel, because its affordable price and good location, there was a mistake on my booking and she was charging me more that it was supposed to be. I tried to point it out, and the answer was… “IT DOES NOT MATTER, THE MACHINE (COMPUTER) IS PERFECT AND DOES NOT MAKE MISTAKES “ (Yes, out of loud) I believe that she forgot that the person behind the machine can make mistakes. Additionally, she told me that I was wasting her time, told me that would not call her manager and didn’t solve my problem. I had to ask other guests for the number of the manager, who called me after 2 hours to say that I was right and it is going to be solved.

I can’t believe, that a person like her, can be the front staff, receptionist of a hotel located in the heart of Hobart, where a lot of good people, experienced in customer service are begging for jobs.

For this reason, I will never come back, and do not recommend this place.

This is my first review because this hostel is bordering on traumatising. I was initially pleased with the vast building and many bathrooms, location is great, though 10 nights in I have continuously been reduced to tears just trying to exist in this place. The kitchen is locked from 11am-midday (lunch time) and after 10pm so there is no hope of me having dinner (even though I prepared it ahead of time) after I finish work or getting a glass of water in the night. My food (all labelled) is being blatantly eaten - entire prepared sandwiches are missing from a box with my name on it. During recent Dark Mofo dates, there have been people passed out throughout the common areas. The long-termers absolutely own the kitchen and fridge space - you'll know who they are as they give off a distinct and unwelcoming impression. The laundry is only accessible from 9: 30-2: 30 and requires a $20 deposit and is charged out at $8 per hour that you have the key - these aren't fast machines so you are looking at minimum 3hrs ($24) for a single load. So absolutely forget about eating or doing laundry if you are visiting for work like I am. There is no option for a sheet turnover (presumably to make sure you need to use the laundry) even for a two week booking. The power board provided in the room trips when more than 1 device plugged in. Staff could not care less and are not available outside of 9: 30-2: 30pm anyway. I wish I could give 0 stars and still warn people about this place.

My flight was cancelled due to bad weather while I waited in the plane on the tarmac due for Hobart. As a result I wasn't able to attend my booking and made staff aware of this immediately. I called several times and sent several emails and no one got back to me to offer a refund or a credit. Very frustrating being charged 80 dollars for something outside your control and not having staff assist you.

The hostel gives off strange vibe, and it sets up weird rules (kitchen opens from 11am) Totally inconvenient for backpackers who check out early.p. S.toiletries aren’t provided

Just dont, I have traveled cheap and light globally - this place was a dive. More a homeless hostel than a backpackers. No bed bug bites so far, I guess it's two stars.
