Astor Private Hotel reviews
14Beautiful hotel, great value. Stayed with my partner. Very quiet, lovely decor and atmosphere, in a lovely old style building. Very welcoming. Good base to explore Hobart. Would come back. Cheers.
Have never felt so disregarded as in the Astor. The meal was underwhelming as to taste, size and presentation and included separate charges for the jus and mineral water elements. I was appalled.
What an absolute gem! We’ve been to the Astor grill situated on the same premises in the past and have been intrigued by the hotel. We were certainly not disappointed with our stay, much better than expected. The Hotel has an authentic charm, with an Edwardian feel about it. Just like something out of an Agatha Christy novel.
We stayed in an ensuite room but had the use of the stylish breakfast room and lounge just perfect for our 3 night stay!
Astor Grill consistently provides fine dining with an extensive and affordable wine list. Food is always delicious and consistent. Rocky is the consummate host. A wonderful relaxing venue without intrusive music or staff
The Astor Private Hotel easily scores five stars from me. Tidy and Neil do a wonderful job of making you feel welcome. The hotel is immaculately clean
I had a single room with shared bathroom and toilet, which was no worries as I never had to wait and no matter what time I used them they were totally clean.
There are also ensuites available.
Loved the cosy old fashioned Ambiance and friendly service.
Breakfast was awesome. Just what I needed to start the day before exploring centre of Hobart where it is situated. All bus services are in easy walking distance. Direct to airport is only a few hundred metres
I stayed here three times on this trip as I doing organised hikes. And could store my gear here between each hike. Can't recommend it enough for its location, ambience, hospitality, and great value
Thanks Tildy and Neil
The best place to dine in Hobart hands down. The owner Rocky has trained his team to an excellent level. Clients are treated with care. The menu is excellent and presented beautifully. The details in the dining room and wonderful collection of Tom Samek artworks are just beautiful. We absolutely loved it and will be back next time we visit Tassie.
I absolutely LOVE staying at the Astor whilst visiting Hobart. The hotel feels like home, so very comfortable, neat and tidy, with a warm atmosphere. The owners are lovely and very accommodating. I have stayed in a different room each time I have booked, and it’s a pleasant surprise to what each room is like - very regal and old fashioned. The Astor is in a great location, very central, so it makes getting around the city a breeze - only a 5 minute walk to the waterfront and less than to the mall
I want to thank Neil and his staff for providing the most professional and generous customer service. From fresh flowers in the Lobby to the beautiful details and decorations that makes this Hotel a unique and warm experience. The delicious breakfast that is set up with so much care. Thank you for your kindness and the very friendly service that you provide.
First class and friendly service. Great menu. Beautifully prepared and presented meals. Thank you.
I loved my stay here and would highly recommend this hotel. It feels like a welcoming home away from home. My room was clean and cosy with a very comfortable bed. The hotel is in a great spot within walking distance to everything around town. I'll definitely stay here again.
Stayed here a few times now. Fantastic hotel, fantastic location. Tildy and Neil are lovely and very accommodating. My go to Hobart accommodation.
I've stayed here a bunch of times and Tildy never fails to disappoint. Clean comfy rooms in a perfect location. This place has CHARM!
WONDERFUL! From the moment we confirmed our booking, Tildy was friendly, accomodating and made us feel extremely welcome. The hotel is exceptionally clean and has great charm and character. Our room was comfortable and cosy and was beautifully decorated; there was also tea/coffee making facilities and a basin which was handy!
A continental breakfast was available with a good selection of provisions.
Location is excellent; just a 5 minute walk to everything central in Hobart.
Would definitely stay at the Astor again!:)
Lots of character during inexpensive stay
S42°53.103' E147°19.627' The Astor is located in Central Hobart and is ideally situated to see Hobart on foot. We only needed the car to visit Mount Wellington. The Astor has limited parking space for 5 cars in the back. Call Tildy, the owner, ahead. This rambling downtown 1920s charmer, according to Lonely Planet’s must visit recommendation, retains much of its character: stained glass windows, old furniture, lofty ceilings and the unstoppable Tildy at the helm. Some TA-reviewers noted to have difficulty controlling and restraining Tildy, but Tildy is charming and always willing to help. Just go with her flow and she makes your stay memorable.
The Astor Private hotel is clearly the opposite of a large business hotel and much closer to a B&B. Our large corner en-suite number 32 on the second floor (3F) in February 2020 was clean and had an excellent double bed, view of Macquire St, television, fridge, heating and fan. Wi-Fi reception was not reliable in our room. In 2017, our room had been renovated with a modern bathroom with heating lights. The room is cleaned daily with fresh towels. Some other rooms are not en-suite with bathrooms in the hallway. Instead of an air-conditioning unit, the room has a fan. We slept with open side window. There is some noise from the traffic on Macquarie St.but it did not bother us.
Each morning a simple breakfast buffet is offered with bread, cereals, jam, orange juice, milk, powder coffee and tea. Nothing cooked. Enough to start the day. To avoid high costs for internet travel agencies, we booked our room directly by e-mail. We paid €149 per night for a double room in February 2020. For accommodations in the centre of Hobart, this is a competitive price.
The Astor Private Hotel offers a good night’s sleep in a charming hotel full of character with a very personal host. Highly recommended.
