Located central to the quaint little Launceston CBD. The arthouse backers boast breathtaking views of the river and gorge. The staff are accommodating swapping my room to my convenience.

Staff are so rude and horrible.i made a booking and came to this hostel on correct dates.
But they told me that they don't have my name on the list and told me to just go to another hotel.

He even said that he doesn't have time to talk with me.

Grotty hostel. Its self proclaimed "[clean.newly renovated.state of the art]" is pure and simply a lie. The building is falling into disrepair. A proper deep clean, a bench mark of cleaning standards, and sending around a competent maintenance person would do wonders.

But the owners are not interested. It is a cash cow, with zero respect for the wellbeing of guests due to the filthy common areas. Also the ceiling in room 1 leaked heavily from heavy rain and ruined another backpackers sleeping area. The bunk bed in your room is the best part of the hostel, but don't expect the floor to be vacuumed.

Used by migrant & backpacker farm workers. The staff are as bad as the regular tenants for not taking responsibility for the cleaning of the kitchen, dining area, & downstairs toilets. They don't provide a mop or brush to clean up with, and the communal kitchen sink is stacked with lazy people's unwashed items on a daily basis. The door surfaces are sticky when you push through them.

I do not recommend this hostel, however I found it was the only cheap accommodation in the city for a 3 day visit.

Great location. Kitchen was pretty gross, lots of old loose food in the fridge, tables were always sticky and staff didn't really interact with any visitors once. Old churchy vibes. Rooms were quite spacious though.

Place is a bit rundown, but the building is charming. There aren’t lockers in the rooms, but the rooms are secure. The wifi worked well.

They try hard to keep the kitchen clean, but it’s often left dirty by other travelers not doing their dishes.

The staff is really nice & accommodating, happy to make recommendations.

About half of the people staying were working long term on farms in the area.

This is one of the best hostel where I stay in all my days in Australia (3 months), the staff is very nice, kind, all works amazing, I felt safe, and I enjoyed the kitchen because is big and have everything for made a good cook, the dinner room is big, illuminated and open. And the old building give a feeling of living in the past times. I recommend to everyone stays here and have a unique experience.

Wanted to like this place - it looks great on the outside and inside the weird little quirks of the building I was hoping would be charming, but there were a lot of issues that brought it down. Due to the uneven floors one of the beds had a roll to it, so unless you were propped in place you’d roll to the edge and feel like you’d fall off the bed, and although they were clean, the old sheets and pillow cases made it felt like I was sleeping somewhere hundreds of people had used before me. The bathroom was a bit leaky, there was moisture and mould on the walls, and because of this the men’s bathroom door was left open which made it a bit awkward to use. The kitchen was pretty well equipped, but mostly old and broken down -For example, the ignition on the gas stoves was gone so there was a long gas lighter to use, but the ignition on that was gone too so we needed to light the gas lighter with a lighter then light the stove to cook anything. The utensils and pots and pans were old and not in good condition. Unfortunately when we were there there wasn’t really much of a social vibe either, we were checking in and out outside of their open hours so never saw the staff in the 2 nights we were there, and the only guests we saw were the ones watching the tv when you walk in or the ones at the tables in the dining room but these areas didn’t feel set up to be social. There’s no on site parking, but seemed to be plenty of street parking so no real issue there, and it was only about 1km into the downtown area of Launceston so decent location for it in any case

Unbelievable! I regret so much to have stayed there. I paid 55aud a night in a 8beds dorm and just regret I didn't stay at the podd. The place is completely damaged and dirty. If the employees aren't going to clean anything, just leave at least some cleaning stuff cause nobody like to have to stay in such dirt! This is a scam at this point. One plug for the full room, no individual light, papers of people begging to get back laptop they get stolen, bathroom clogged with thousands of hair, holes and dirts absolutely everywhere.
I saw the staff once just handing me my envelope with the key when I arrived and one my 2sd day I came back at 5pm and had to get people to open to me because the door code was changed without any warning? ! Never again and that's shameful to make money but not be able to renovate a minimum the place.

Inhabited by grubs who cook with every pan in the kitchen and don't wash a single one. Mugs are stored rim down on a shelf that looks like it's never been wiped. Signs say quiet after 10pm yet people party until well after 1am. Cleaning involves swapping the sheets and wiping the kitchen and bathroom bench, the place is well overdue for a deep clean as I don't think it's been dusted or vacuumed for months, if ever. I thought I had low standards but even I thought this place was filthy! Beds have no lamps, shelfs or power points. Redeeming features? It's not far from town, there's a big TV. The outside table is nice if not covered in XXXX cans from the night before. Why they let people stay there who can't use the kitchen respectfully or obey the rules or use a bin is a mystery to me. The place was full, surely they could get enough business with people who don't ruin it for everyone else.

Hostel is fairly basic, but has everything you need. Peter the manager was so helpful, helping us lock up our trailer and then dropping something for us we left behind in Hobart on his way. Such a helpful host!

Pity it's rundown and falling apart because it was once a Grand old Lady but then I only paid $18@night
The kitchen and laundry bonus and residents were friendly people

The windows were rotting and so rattling all night. Then parts of the window fell onto the bed. Showers were mouldy and not clean. Would not go here again!

The hostel is old but really cute and warm. The staff is nice. The pity is that some tenants don't wash their dishes. So lucky that we are two people live in 6-bed-room.

Home away from home! My stay lasted almost 3 months, and I had the best time. The staff were extremely welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. The hostel was always cozy and inviting. Everyone there felt like family. Whether your stay is long or short term, Arthouse Backpackers is a must stop place to stay while in Launceston. I couldn’t recommend it enough! Will definitely be back.

Such a nice place to stay. The staff members are so professional, nice and super friendly. Everyone staying at the Arthouse are super nice as well which was good for me as I was travelling alone and didn’t find my stay lonely. If I could give 6 stars I would

The service was great but damn the hostel is dirty and kinda uncured. A bit of a shame for such a spacious communal area. Old furniture, sofas very messy with an 'oldish' smell and it's pillows all over the place. Just seeing the kitchen made me feel sick backpackers who live and work there are quite disrespectful. They are taking they're whole space. (I could not climb to my top bed as the girl underneath me took half of the 8dorm just for her stuff. There should be rules in place. I am a backpacker myself and glad I stayed just for 2 nights, could not resist any longer.

Such a great hostel. I booked for one week and ended up staying for two months.
It's cosy, spacious, clean and in a cool, old building.
It's super cheap too as a bonus. Highly recommend and can't believe the rating isn't higher than it is.

Hands down the best hostel in Launceston. Owner is a great guy and seems to attract a good crowd. Wouldn't stay anywhere else in Launceston.

I love the vibe of the hostel!
Big common areas, big kitchen and a lot of supplies! They have an outdoor terrace nice for chill!
Big and spacious room! Comfy bed!
Plenty of parking in front of the hostel! Close to the city! I will definitely stay there again!
