Excellent Japanese restaurant!

The food was great, especially the salmon and hotpot. The homemade ice cream was the best we’d ever had at a Japanese restaurant. Prices were also reasonable.

We were also very grateful that the staff let us come in as they were closing.

If we lived in Hobart, we would come here all the time.

The tempura was the standout dish, cooked perfectly and light. The salmon was also good. The short rib was disappointing and awkward to eat, not tender enough and didn't have a pleasant flavour. The ice cream was OK, not sure if it's fried in the same oil as the rest of the food. Service was OK, would come again

Delicious Japanese food and great service in a relaxed atmosphere. Good selection on the many and some good Japanese beers.

Seriously delicious food here. It’s tucked away from the busier side of Battery Point.
We had the wagyu sukiyaki which was perfect for the the cold weather. Must try the skewers!
Sake was delicious and great service.

This Japanese restaurant has the most adorably decorated, cozy interior. You can choose to sit indoors, outdoors under a plastic canopy beside the beautiful Mt Fuji mural, or outdoors unsheltered in the garden. Service is attentive, but the food was a little bit hit-and-miss for us. The sashimi is dull in colour and does not seem very fresh. The gyoza were juicy and tasty. The karaage has an untraditional flavour profile and is a bit dry (maybe it could be served with a bit of Kewpie mayo on the side). The tempura prawns look big but turn out to be quite batter-heavy, however they are tasty. The nasu dengaku is tender, but unfortunately overly salty. Of the kushiyaki skewers, the corn and chicken are OK. I'd recommend the pork belly which was juicy and succulent, and the excellent beef short rib - juicy and fall-apart tender. We ordered a glass each of yuzushu nigori and rien nashi liquor - they are served in heavy Japanese teacups rather than clear glasses which we are used to.

Total win. In the over hyped over priced Hobart town this addition shines like the Northern Star. Take heed promising business people. These are the ones to follow. Down to the nails.

The food was on average, nothing too impressive but nothing to complain, either. Issue is I had diarrhea not long after arrived home, which tells me some food wasn’t fresh enough as my stomach is sensitive to such stuff. Hopefully the chef will watch out more for food safety and qualities, especially in this warm season.

I enjoyed Three Japanese but it's like someone's Japanese grandmother is in the kitchen. The dishes are delicious, well prepared, and fresh but also plain, small, and ungarnished. The place seems untidy with furniture stacked in the courtyard and the manager taking phone calls there too. A shame because that grandmother in the kitchen really does know how to cook!

Coming in expecting more but coming out quite disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, food was great, and the staff are amazing. I have the reputation of giving 5 stars so if i minus points there will always be a reason.
But it is quite overpriced. My whole bill for 2 people is $88, but i’m not full at all, while i’m a small eater. So in order to be full, you should spend $100-$150 i guess. Sashimi to share is $27, and mixed fried platter is $45, panna cotta is $16 for anyone who is curious about the price.
The first two meals came fast, but I think the server forgot my dessert? So we waited nearly 35 mins for it. Thankfully the dessert was good.

Great atmosphere makes u feel like ur eating in Japan with lovely food (especially the Gozye) that really tastes like u get from Japan. Incredible desert, I recommend the Tempura Ice-Cream which I hadn’t heard of before. Definitely recommend it.

Excellent locally sourced sashimi selection! Kingfish, Huon Valley Salmon, Atlantic Tuna, Hokkigai and Japanese Scallops! Lovely atmosphere, nice and warm in winter even in the outdoor eating area.

The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't what I expected. I ordered scallop sashimi. Freshness, yes, but I can find the same fresh scallops in cheaper sushi restaurants. The thickness of the sashimi was much thinner than I expected. I also ordered shucked oysters. They looked creamy, but tasted like they were half way cooked.
I definitely like the decorations and atmosphere of the restaurant.

Delicious food, good service and a nice range of sake. There was a bit of a wait on the food but that's totally worth it. Amazing pork belly skewers

Just don’t order the grilled steak!
The dish was still like a cold dish even though we told the chef to make it hotter.

Good Environment
Food is above average. The taste is a little bit bland and tasteless. Will be a ideal optional for dating.

Kids friendly! Best Japanese BBQ Skewers here. We came as two families with 4 little one. The little one was teething and exhausted before the dinner. Been unsettle and crying around. At the end I relocate him out and try to settle him. The staff was kind and caring, she came out and offering ice and water for the little one and ask if there is anything else we need. The food was great especially the BBQ Vegi Skewers! Jucey, Sweetness taste from the vegi. Will definately came back again.
