Udon’s probably the worst udon i’ve had in adelaide, large tempura udon was $24 and only came with 1 prawn. Udon is hard and not chewy and soup lacks flavor. Husband ordered the wagyu hotpot which for $25 was worth it and tastes great hence 3 stars to even our experience out. My order took awhile to come after hub’s did and a kind waitress updated me that my order was coming and i appreciated the good service, overall great service and atmosphere.

The food was average, the atmosphere was nice after the renovation. BUT my friend didnt receive her food for 40 minutes when my other friend and i received all our food, including additional food we ordered after. We asked if the food was coming and they said that the chef hasnt started cooking the dish (maybe they forgot?) and said we can cancel, but i was disappointed we received no explanation and apologies. As we left I asked what actually happened and one of the staff said 'oh you guys just cancelled so we took it out of the order' and i tried to explain that only reason we cancelled was because it didnt come for 40 minutes and we didnt have time. The manager was very unprofessional to how she handled the situation, apologies would have been nice.

Spacious and woody interior, great for dates or in groups. Agedashi tofu was crispy and sauce was mild yet delicious. Karaage chicken was crispy and tender on the inside. Sashimi don is not bad, sushi rice was flavoursm. Wagyu sukiyaki was very delicious and heart warming, it comes with noodles as well. But the soup will go very well with rice too. Service is average.

Excellent!
Don't forget to make a reservation because it's full very quickly!
The sushis are of good quality. My vegetarian friend was also able to find her happiness!
Fast service.
Special mention for the original cocktail.

Not a good place for a vegetarian like us. I booked for 10pax and my guests wasn’t happy with the food they served. The Sukiyaki and Jigoku hotpot was sweet and not much noodles. It was purely fresh tofu and cabbage with soup.

Vegetarian sushi set and avo roll was good.

Fresh, tasty and good quality food, served quickly by friendly staff. A bit noisy (but I'm sensitive to noise.)

Lovely fresh Japanese sashimi and nigiri here, very well balanced Clamp Miso soup! A little bit pricy but overall was very nice!

Very, very noisy environment. Seated a long time before drinks and food could be ordered. My main dish (Japanese curry) came out cold.even the rice was cold.

Wasai has very authentic Japanese food in the heart of Chinatown. Their Aburi Salmon was absolutely delicious as was the karaage and gyoza.

Very loud, food came out cold and most was tasteless. Also, ordering entrees and mains to come out separately made no difference - they came or in whatever random order they wanted. And we were even told we get them a they serve them thanks. There was a queue waiting to come in, so i doubt we were the only ones disappointed. There are much better Japanese restaurants just around the corner - this was easily the worst we've ever been to.

Great food for the price.

Good choice of drinks for a decent price.

Service was a little lacklustre and rushed.

Would come back:)

I can’t recommend this place enough. Great food, decent prices, good service, and nice atmosphere, however parking can be a challenge. As a sushi addict this place is close to my heart

Had bday dinner with a big group of 13. The restaurant staff were friendly and accommodating. Kept the bday cake for us during dinner and even provided extra plate and cutlery for the cake at no charge. Their funamori sushi boat was visually pleasing and yummy. So was their sukiyaki. Weekend always busy so bookings essential

Always good to dine here. Consistently good over the years and very reasonable prices for the quality and standard of cooking.

Not sure how this place scores over 4 stars.
Karaage chicken was soggy and oily.
Dragon roll was flavourless and strangely had chewy salmon in it when the dragon rolls I’ve eaten at other restaurants have eel as the only protein.
Aburi set was not bad surprisingly.
Tempura was ok but nothing to sing home about. There was a lack of flavour in all the dishes. You know that moment when you place a bit of food in your mouth and you go “damn that’s delicious! ”? Didn’t get that at all here.
Even the wasabi lacked heat!

Ordered agedashi tofu and nasu dengake for entree. The miso dressing on the nasu dengaku is really good. We ordered a deluxe sashimi and sushi boat. The aburi sushi and tamago definitely the standout dish on thr boat. Not a fan of the sashimi tho. For the main we ordered a braised pork on rice and katsu curry. The optional soft boiled egg is definitely a musy hav. Its cooked to perfectio. For a braised pork, I expected the meat to be more tender. No complains bout the marinate but the texture could be better. The curry is punchy and definitely tickle your taste bud. However, not a big fan of the breadding of the katsu.

I had the buta no kakuni don/ braised pork belly rice bowl, and it was so delicious. Definitely going to get it again and try more from the menu soon:)
