Valley Lake Wildlife Park reviews
43Laid-back picnic spots for families by the lake, surrounded by mountains all sides, not so hidden gem in Mount Gambier, calm lake for anyone who wants to do jetski or kayaking. Good place to spend time with loved ones or for some lonely time.
This is a great place for kids to play!
The unique color of the lake attracts adults to play small yachts. The children each brought swimming equipment and enjoyed the water in the company of their families.
A quiet, peaceful and beautiful place!
We loved our visit! Ticked the box as finally saw an echidna. Also plenty of wallabys &kangaroo. Fabulous place if you love Australian wildlife plus bonus it's free.
It was good fun looking around at the animals and listening to the birds. There was nice scenery and enjoyable walk. No entry fee was a great bonus.
No entry fee at all! The visit was great value as you got to see a few different types of flora and fauna. We saw adorable wallabies - adults and babies, an echidna, a very unique goose, some local flora, and many types of birds.
Although we didn't see as many animals as we thought, it was a great experience and as a local, I recommend this spot for locals and tourists to visit for a walk and to learn about our local wildlife.
Worth the visit! Lovely relaxing walk and exploration. Great to see all the animals protected and up close.
Free. Variety in habitat, good for learning about life cycles, ecosystems etc.
Take a picnic, only photos, leave footprints
Beautiful lake and park. People come here for water sports. The park has walking trails and bbq facilities. Good spot for a picnic.
Great park with lots of wildlife. And very scenic. Plan to spend about an hour and meander around
A must see. Spent over an hour here. Peaceful park with native animals and great aspect. No charge.
Such a picturesque place to visit so much greenery and beauty. The array of birds, animals and wildlife is a photographers dream. So many places to have family picnics, walks and even an amazing inclusive playground. A hidden gem in Mt Gambier.
Nice little conservation. We had lunch by the lake on the grass. Afterwards we went for a short walk through the conservation park where we were able to spot some kangaroos and wallabies.
Lovely spot, eager to get on the water, disappointed to wait an hour at gate when website says opens 6am
Want to see kangaroos in Valley Lake area? Visit the conservation Park. In summer it is open till 9pm
Lovely natural space. If you go on a cooler day and be quiet and very observant you will spot some lovely wildlife. We saw kangaroos, fairy wrens and some very interesting water birds. Even a turtle crossing the path as wel as a few in the water. A great way to spend a bit of time outdoors.
Peaceful place to walk - there weren't too much crowd in the arvo. Had heaps of wallabies and Kangaroos once you walk 5-10 mins into the park.
This is a great set of sites to visit. If you have kids or extended family then add this and some time to enjoy.
The area near the entrance looks nice.
Further up it is a bit of a disappointment: the boardwalk is no more, the old trees are getting to the end of their lifespan and there is not much new growth - except in fenced off areas. Too many roos for a small park, they graze off the shoots.
Birds would visit during summer to drink, this time they have better options.
Edit: All the old parks declared national or conservation parks struggle balancing visitor comfort and preserving historic and native plants. Valley Lake deals with this better than most: the conservation part is separated from the playgrounds and picnic areas. The tourist attraction role is fulfilled with clever landscaping, viewing platforms, well maintained paths and some roos for the overseas visitors.
The real attraction for me are the visiting birds and the park is well set up to attract them during summer.
There is a lot of work being done and it shows. What I miss is the tree saplings to keep the forrest renewing itself.
Great place for a wander amongst nature, with excellent information signs. Many wallabies and kangaroos. Around 4pm on a Sunday there were very few people around which made it very peaceful
