The Underground Motel reviews
50Fantastic and cozy rooms dug into the rock, and a really friendly couple running it who have a wealth of knowledge about the area. Would absolutely stay here again next time I pass thru Coober Pedy.
Wow what an experience sleeping underground. Actually stayed there twice on our recent holiday to Darwin. The units were clean and tidy and the shared kitchen was the best I have ever seen by far. Even though not situated in centre of town, which I liked, everything was close enough and management were friendly and helpful giving suggestions of sites to visit.
Room 9. Not really underground.
Nice linen and towels. Old bed and furniture. Rude notice to wash dishes if used. Otherwise a $30 charge applies.
Bathroom needs an exhaust fan
Stayed for 2 nights here. Check in was fast and easy and pleasently handled by Erin. Room was nice and clean. Great experience sleeping at this motel. Although the room we booked had no cooking facilities, there was a small shared kitchen that had everything you needed. Stove, fridge, cultlery, plates, pots and pans, complimentary tea coffe milk sugar. The service given was really good. The owners were very attentive, polite and friendly. I dont think id be in cooper pedy again any time soon but if i were to visit again, id definately be booking here. Ill also be recommending this place to others.
This place was an awesome find. Rooms were very clean. Amenities were great. Erin and her husband were a delight. Views were fantastic. Highly recommend staying here for your underground motel experience.
We stayed here recently for the second time and it is a great place and good to stay when in Coober Pedy. The rooms are all very quaint in the underground style. Some rooms include a kitchen and all have use of the very well equipped common kitchen. The rooms are all clean and comfortable and reasonably priced. I would recommend The Underground for a different accommodation experience.
This motel is absolutely clean! Beautiful rooms. Staff is very friendly, and helpful. It’s my dream to stay this underground hotel! I regretted to stay only one night.
Not a bad spot, good rooms. Can be a bit warm inside due to the dugout drives facing the midday and afternoon sun. Other than that it's quite nice.
We loved staying here! Easy check-in process and great service. Host arranged easy late check in for us the 2nd time we stayed here. Great facilities and incredibly helpful and friendly host that gave us a map and suggested many places for us to visit in Coober Pedy.
The room is tiny. The bed only just qualifies as a double. It is tucked right up into the corner so one person pretty much rubs against a rock face all night. If you are a sound sleeper that isn't bothered by light from the hall way out side that penetrates straight through the poor attempt at curtaining said light from the hallway, you may stand a chance? Maybe they could just turn the lights off? I mean, isn't that part of the attraction of sleeping underground, the idea that it's pitch black at anytime through the day? The bathroom was quite cramped as well. No bar fridge, no air con, it's quite warm in there. The fan only does half a job. Constant dripping noises through pipework that can't be seen to add to the annoyance. And our room didn't have the bed bugs. Yes, the second room that I had booked had bed bugs. My friend who had come from interstate to join us on an outback adventure also had bed bugs to deal with, the the previous said issues. They did reimburse him for the room, no offer of compensation for the bug sprays, washing of clothes etc that we inevitably had to do in order to prevent infestation at our home upon our return.
After trying to post my review on the site that I booked through, the hotel subsequently listed my stay as a no show which I suspect is in order to prevent this review coming to the light of day. Hence me now posting it as a review.
It's an experience like no other. Give yourself a couple of days to visit all the opal stores before deciding on which one to buy.
Great experience rooms were clean and share kitchen was great. Great way to meet other travellers.
Ideal for 3 nights short drive to main street thought we were booking a deluxe room but ok down the bottom two rooms
Booked a Double Suite room and it is very cosy and cute, I love it, a very unique room cut into the side of a hill. Also we only have one other room next to us so it's been very quiet. You can see the sunset well from here and it's not a long walk into town so you don't even need to drive to the shops. There is a guest kitchen too so was great to be able to cook one of the nights rather than go out plus there is a laundry service if you need. Liked having our own outdoor area to sit at as well. The two owners are friendly as well. Definitely recommend this place!
Spent two nights here. The rooms are immaculate, clean and well cared for plus it has the usual provisions of in house tea, coffee, milk and biscuits. The double bed is a snug fit from our king size bed at home, but it was peaceful and serene.
You can also have a load of washing done, for a fee of $10 when we were there and put through the dryer.
Compliments to Erin and her husband for a unique experience.
Room was small but neat and tidy. Bed was a little small and the mattress was thin. Okay for a short stay.
Thanks to Erin.
She arranged for a Birthday Cake & candles to be in our room on arrival for my partners Birthday!
He was Surprised & Happy!
Haven't be here since 2015.the Welcome & Rooms are still of the same high standard!
Random pick online for the family accomodation and what a gem of a place, super clean, very comfortable and more than I had expected in the room, would absolutely recommend and would happily stay again
Lovely owner, helped us with options on what to do in town. Gorgeous room, incredibly clean. Bed was very comfy, but a little small if your used to king size or are partnered with a giant; but for a few nights not an issue. The kitchen facilities where also spotless and really great. If I'm in town again I would absolutely stay again.
Very Clean, very cool inside and Lovlie decor.
Very comfortable beds and Friendly Reception and Cleaning Staff.
It was recommended to me that I go see Fossil Creations. Brilliant personal free tour of Phil's collection.
Very welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. Answered All my questions, Happily!
Beautiful range opals at very reasonable prices.
Excellent stay!
