I have been dining here since it was located in Bank Street, then moved to Leigh Street.

One of my fondest memories is the owner sitting down with myself and my date and showing us the best way to prepare a glass of Armagnac. Who knew there was a whole ritual and secret to bring out it's best aroma and flavour? And that's the way to approach this place: let "le patron" show their interpretation of the classics and their experience - you'll be rewarded.

The decor will gently nudge you towards the French countryside as you walk in.

Service is attentive but unhurried. Settle yourself in for an enjoyable evening and start with an aperitif. Ask for a Kir Royale if available - blackberry liqueur topped with champagne.

The menu is classic French cuisine - it won't win any awards for inventiveness, but why try to improve on the tried and tested classics?

Entree - there are about eight choices, all excellent, from savoury crepes to prawns with couscous or vol au vent, or salads. But the Escargots Façon Chef (walnut and snail on spinach) is my favourite, and a far more interesting take on snails than simply smothering them with garlic butter; however I would like to see that particular dish on the menu from time to time, as I think they would do it well.

Mains: all classics, and something for everyone (except vegetarians, but they'll find the entrees have a reasonable choice to substitute as a main). I almost always order Canard deux Cuissons (duck two ways) ; meals come with a small potato dish and you can order extra vegetables. I must admit that my (poor) interpretation of their Poulet Estragon (tarragon chicken) has made its way into regular rotation at my home, so this is well worth a try too. You'll also get pork and a creamy, brandy laced prune sauce, skirt steak in wine, various other steaks in classic sauces, poisson du jour, and others - all worth a try.

The cheese course has been thoughtfully considered and is served with dried fruits.

Desserts - the poached pears in red wine are outstanding, but there's something classic for everyone from creme caramel to dessert crepes.

Regular specials are displayed on the board outside and are always worth a look.

Ask for a wine recommendation with your meal. And always finish on an Armagnac, it will top off your night perfectly.

Prices are reasonable for the quality and experience. Expect a couple to drop $120 for two courses and a glass of wine each; and up to $150 per person for a full four course meal, an aperitif, a decent bottle of wine to share between two and a digestif. Honestly, you'll be happy either way, but if you can, treat yourself and go the latter.

Simple food with fantastic flavour. Yes this is a one man show with an additional wait staff but you will not leave disappointed. The chef and owner clearly cares so much about his food and customer experience.we’ll absolutely be back!

I know businesses are doing tough but I won’t accept high prices and poor food
We had a meal and dessert and not only was the presentation poor, very small meals and poor quality food. We waited ages

For what you are being charged the food and service was below par. Main courses were cold and served on cold plates. Very expensive for a very disappointing evening.

Delicious. A cultural experience.a little visit to France (without the price of the plane ticket) I would definitely like to visit again.

Unfortunately, we had a very poor experience at the Bistrot. It took us almost 4 hours to receive our overpriced, small and overcooked meal. The man was the waiter and chef, Which leaves for several customers waiting hours for something below mediocre. I wanted to love this place so much. Very sorry to be leaving a review like this but unfortunately it is unreasonable to expect guests to pay such a high price for incredibly poor service.

Very poor service. Impatient waiter arguing loudly with other customers. Food way overpriced. Duck overcooked. Veal tough and chewy. Totally lacking any finesse or care.

The food was very traditional French cuisine, the chef served my table and was very engaging.

Do not let the neigh sayers sway your opinions of this hidden gem

Was sitting out the front having a smoke before ordering food and the (i assume) owner came out and very rudely told us to move along because "the tables are for customers only" and then proceeded to stand over us aggressively while we were packing up our bags (as we had taken things out because we planned to eat). We may not have ordered yet but we definitely wont be now or in the future. Just an all round horrible potential dinning and wine experience, i would not go here if you want to be treated like a human being

Oh dear feel sorry for the guy, he is cook, waiter, chef, bartender all in one. But no excuse for over priced poor quality food. Absolutely a rip off for a small serve of vegetables for $20. Pork very tough. If you don't have staff don't open. We paid $60 per person for a poor quality meal and over priced wine.

The food was exceptional, not the place to go if you’re a difficult orderer (sorry mum) But overall had a really lovely experience and the owner clearly has a passion for his food.

A small and long restaurant, very tall inside with a high dado line on one wall - unusual setting. But to the experience…. I wanted a slow and long meal - I wanted steak - I wanted good wine. I got it all.
Visiting on a Tuesday night (4 other tables) the owner/chef/waiter managed to put it together. Don’t rush, take some time, enjoy life.

The steak with green pepper sauce was amazing - especially with some bread to soak up the sauce. Good wine list and given current restaurant wine prices, fair. Nice selection from France and many by the glass.

A good evening!

Went here many years ago on my first trip too Adelaide & went back again last night. Still just as amazing as the first time. The food & service is fantastic! The prices are excellent for the portion size & the quality of the food. The owner & his staff are very welcoming & attentive. This is without a doubt my favourite restaurant in Adelaide!

Waited 20 mins for the staff to take our order, and another 50 mins for the food to arrive (keep in mind there were only 5 tables, not a full house). Food was okay but slightly overpriced. Ordered a medium rare steak but it came out over cooked. For a white tablecloth restaurant, it would have been a better experience if they were not understaffed.

The place was empty when we saw it, but we felt like French food so decided to give it a try. I asked the only staff member what he recommended, and accepted his recommendation, he cooked and I enjoyed my basic French home cooked meal. Quaint right. But not $200 worth of quaint. I get it, provencal, but the wrong location pal, and you're punching way your weight in price.

This restaurant was horrible. The food was very basic and unappetising, way overpriced and a total disappointment. The waitress was sweet but the owner was stressed and unwelcoming. We will not go back and would not recommend

Overpriced, tiny portions, and simply not good. Everything is a joke there, they serve snails with bacon aha.
Sorry for the owner who's not a bad guy, but If you want a french cuisine experience, this is not the place to go. One star for the coffee.

Paris in Adelaide. The best food hands down outside of France. A feast, artistry, the plate is the canvas and the chef paints a beautiful memory that will last. I'm putting this as my favorite restaurant in Adelaide.

Having moved back from Melbourne where we experienced great French cuisine we had high hopes for this restaurant. The portions were small but reasonably tasty. When factoring in the price however, the experience was underwhelming.
