The Bellum Hotel

All I can say is, YUM! Don’t sleep on the steak sandwich special. Sooo delicious. Excellent service too … what more could you ask for in a country pub? !

The food was really good, service was nice. Only issue was we were staying for the night and where we stayed it smelled like fieces.

Very friendly and welcoming staff. We free camped for two nights, which is available if you are self contained. Room for about 8 vans out the back and a few people set up in the front carpark on our second night. Good spot close enough to town to explore the area. Meals were good and reasonably priced. Thanks for having us.

Basic accommodation, with comfortable beds.

We were unlucky enough to book for the Xmas period when the hotel and pub were closed, which meant that we needed to call the owner when we couldn’t access the keys. It would have been good to be told the place was closed beforehand. The upside was that we had no drunken patrons leaving the pub noisily, but the cars and trucks coming down the Highway made up for the noise.

Several aspects would benefit from some TLC:
- *All* the doors need a good dose of WD40! They squeak like there’s no tomorrow!
- There are no mossie screens in the bathroom, which means we could not ventilate the room when it was hot, and there is no aircon.
- We needed cutlery, but none was available except for the spoons that go with the coffee cups
- The TV screens are tiny, but that doesn’t matter, because there are no TV channels to watch - only radio.

If these things don’t bother you, it’s an ok place to stay. But that’s why I say it’s basic, at best…

Walking in was a great experience lovely pub but we 3 that ordered dinner were sick 1 of us violently all day 2 just had very upset tommies and had to stay close to toilets all day. Very disappointing!

We were there Friday 11 Nov we ordered 2 Lamb Shanks, and Crispy Pork Belly that wasn’t crispy on Roast potatoes with no for warning that there was no Mash. Would of changed order otherwise.

An absolute gem of a find - stay and eat here!

Mel is the ultimate pub manager; so friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Her passion shines through in every way. Can’t recommend her and the pub highly enough. Warm, inviting, great pub food at reasonable prices.

The camp site out the back is spacious, easy to navigate - perfect for a one or two night stop.

Close (2 minute drive) to the a Little Blue Lake swimming and diving spot

This is a great pub to spend a few days exploring the local area. Andrew is a terrific bloke who loves to interact with people. Mel is a fabulous chef as well as a trusty bar tender. 10/10 to these guys. We were going to stop for one night before moving to Port Mac but after listening to Andrew mention all the local attractions we decided to base ourselves at The Bellum. Lovely atmosphere, good food and country hospitality. We’ll be back.

Ideally located to spend a day or three visiting Mount Gambier, you can also do a loop to Mt Schank - Hells Hole - Caroline Sinkhole - Piccaninne Ponds - Port MacDonnell - then back to The Bellum for a delicious evening meal and some local banter.

Great country pub, super friendly service, locals and good country fare. Got to stay out back in our van the other night and were grateful for the warm fire inside too. Hope to stop longer next time we are in the area. Thanks heaps guys

The Bellum Hotel is the quintessential country pub. Locals were friendly and up for a chat. Beer was cold. And the food was well priced and delicious. Thanks for a great night Bellum

Staff were so friendly and accommodating. We got the arancini for entree, it was to die for! We got burgers for our mains and very delish. Kids meals are huge! Nice clean place, highly recommend

Be cautious that there are additional people who may camp out on the grassy area out near the rooms. These people staying there come straight from the pub after a meal and a few drinks, in our case were up at least until 12: 50 on a weekday keeping the room awake with excessive noise. Just something to consider when looking here, tiredness can ruin your entire next day potentially

We stayed in the camp area next to this Hotel for a couple of days. It's free to stay as long as you have a meal and a few drinks. Well that was easy as the food was fabulous, and restaurant quality. Thanks chef! Busy little pub in the middle of nowhere and we know why because the staff are wonderful and atmosphere nice and warm and inviting. Deserves a 5 star!

Wonderful food, good ambience and super friendly staff! Just 3mins drive from the Little Blue Lake, highly recommended if you are planning to visit Mt. Gambier!

Ocean right next door, got served frozen fish. First and last time. I feel genuinely sick after eating here. Poor quality, service and food safety.

Good food (can recommend the whiting and the grilled chicken breast) friendly staff, convenient location. A real country pub feel.

Went for dinner with my husband he had schnitchel and i got pork belly! Absolutely amazing enjoyed every bite of the pork and mashed potato was out of the world. Great job chef loved it! Highly recommend

Loved the friendly staff, patrons, and atmosphere at this historical pub. Free camping is welcome, and in doing so, grab a drink at the bar, or a meal at their very nice restaurant.
