The Barn Steakhouse

You are only as good as your last meal?
I talk this place up all the time and have never had a bad steak here until the last visit HOWEVER only one (of seven) of the steak orders came out over cooked. We didn’t make a fuss, and to their credit they did ask about it.

This is probably more a testament to how good this place is than a complaint. I always expect the best from them because it has always been the best previously.

I love their steaks, and the sides that come with it but equally impressive is their well balanced and curated wine cellar and their extremely reasonable prices. They are a champion of local wines (SA in general) but do have other new and old world wines. It’s ever changing, and if you’re lucky you’ll score a rare unicorn at very fair prices. Case in point the Sami ODI little 9 we enjoyed that night for $150

Returning to The Barn for the second time in consecutive years. The standard of good remains high as usual. No need to dig deep into the pocket for the Wagyu beef, the normal 400g porterhouse steak cooked to the perfection only for $49. You get a superb quality of food for the price of a pub. Looking for many happy returns.

Expensive, BUT honestly the best steak I have ever had, the staff were extremely kind to me and my partner, they helped make the Barn inviting, which added to the all around great experience.
Deffinetly a place to take your partner if they're a steak lover.

We had my Daughters Wedding at "The Barn" in the gardens along with Pre-Dinner Drinks and Nibbles and the reception in "The Palais Room" the garden. The Venue was absolutely beautiful, which made for a magical seamless enjoyable day. The service of the staff was excellent, professional, friendly and very attentive from the garden through to the reception. The food was so delicious, melt in the mouth, explosion of flavours in every bite, presentation of every dish was of extremely high standard and guest commented how amazing the food was. I would definitely recommend "The Barn Palais" for a wedding or any special event or occasion.
Thank you to all the Management and expecially the wait staff for helping me make our daughters wedding so memorable.

We stayed here on our way to kangaroo island and it was lovely and comfortable. Had dinner in the restaurant and it was amazing.

Had the 600g porterhouse steak. It was cooked medium rare and served with a salad. I opted out of fries because I don’t like fries. Great atmosphere and beats most other places with quality. Must have been great with wine, which I couldn’t have due to long drive.

I guess steak prices are okay for size; but sauce came at an extra $5, which I wasn’t told or I didn’t care to listen as that has never been the case. It didn’t feel right for my wife’s 400g steak where sauce was just poured on top. But I got a small sauce pot.

Staff were friendly and welcoming. Has to be a must see place for a foodie.

This was a tough experience to rate as it was a mixed one.

The venue itself is very well maintained and presented. Ambiance in the main restaurant area was great, however the second area (spill over?) is a bit lacklustre.

When ordering mains we were quite shocked by an odd rule they have. We tried to order the special 700g rib eye to share between two people. The size and price were essentially the same as getting two of the cheaper cut steaks. We were told that the owners have a rule where they don’t allow people to share – they want everyone to have their own meal. We expressed how bizarre this was as every other steakhouse we’ve been to allow people to share the larger cuts. Unfortunately the staff can’t do anything about it.

We reluctantly changed our order to the eye fillets on the specials menu. They were both cooked as requested and tasted well. However, there was a large bit of skewer left inside one of the steaks. The staff were very blasé about it and said it’s from the cooking process, but ended up comping a dessert.

The desserts were delicious and we had some nice local wine produced by the venue’s owner.

Overall it was a very mixed experience. Some great and some not so great.

Average, people next to us ordered and got their meals before us due to slow service. They forgot to cook our sides. Filet Mignon, average mushroom sauce. Pocket potato average. Temperature of food was low. Compared to other steakhouses we have been to, in South Australia, Australia and internationally, it was average.

Had a beautiful night there for Valentines food cooked beautifully, staff could not fault they were there when we needed them, they looked after my wife's flowers while we ate. This to me is not your everyday done it's a special place it cost a little more but will not be disappointed.

I wanted to love this place, but the food disappointed hugely. For a steak house, the steak was not high quality nor cooked well to the order. Same sentiment from others on my table, despite different cuts of meat.
On the other hand, the service was excellent and the staff were really friendly. The atmosphere was very good too, a little bit noisy

Me and my family went out to the barn today. Everyone was very nice and the atmosphere was very amazing and nice to look at. The food was terrific and so were the drinks. I'd definitely recommend the barn for special occasions with family or friends!

Well aged steak is the best eating but I don't believe the 600g cut my son and I were served had any age as it was cooked perfectly but was tough full of fresh blood no change of texture for age no rich concentration of flavours I have come to expect from a cut that's aged as long as the menu claimed.

I’m known for my verbal diarrhoea. But I’m speechless with how FANTASTIC this dinner was. A great range of wines at all prices. Delicious menu options. Vegetarian if chosen. But. The. Steak. Well that’s what this place is all about and if I tell you, you need to eat here. I mean it. Bus, bike, car, make it a priority to add the Barn Steakhouse to your culinary bucket list. Stat. Over and out!

One of my favourite dining experiences! The food, ambiance, and staff were all absolutely amazing. Couldn't recommend this place enough. We had a delicious meal!

Wanted to try this restaurant since long time ago, finally tried their famous steak. First of all, always better to book a table before visiting. And the staff is very friendly and helpful with any questions you have. Ordered a wagyu eye fillet with add on sauce and a fillet mignon comes with mushroom sauce. The steak we requested to be cooked medium-rare, which were spot on. Both steak served with salad and a grilled potato with skinned on topped with a spoon of sour cream, yum!

A little pricy in terms of price point, but consider the quality of steak and food you could get. It’s totally worth for it. Will definitely visit again when we are travelling around this area.

Had my wedding anniversary on Boxing Day it’s been my favourite place for years until this time the service was really bad had my starter almost half hour before my wife received hers and then was told they didn’t have the sauce for my steak the steak was fatty sorry guys big thumbs down from me couldn’t not eat my entire meal just remember you created memories not much change out of $300 for two except more

Had a lovely meal last night for husbands 70th. Food was all perfect. But service let it down.our main course came out and plates from entree still not cleared. Took about half hour waiting for mains plates to be cleared. Expected better service in this area. Staff were friendly tho.

The best steak my husband and I have ever had the privilege of consuming. We wish we lived closer, gives us a reason to travel back to Mount Gambier I suppose.
