Sushi Hiro reviews
22So disappointing, I really wanted Mount Barker’s first restaurant with a sushi train to be great. More than half the dishes were smothered in a really over-powering okonomiyaki-style sauce that was overly sweet and overly flavoured. It seemed like it was to conceal the inferior contents of the sushi. They had old, cracked Kikkoman soy sauce bottles on the table that definitely didn’t contain Kikkoman soy sauce, I’m not sure it was even soy sauce, it tasted like MSG and brown food dye. The mixed sashimi platter was nothing like the picture, was limp and mushy and definitely wasn’t worth $15. The soft shelled crab looked like it hardly had any crab in it so we didn’t even try it. Everything we tried was disappointing except the miso soup, which was average and the fried squid tentacles, which were quite good (not sure about the dill mayo though…). The windows were dirty, which was a shame as they have quite good views. The staff were extremely nice, especially to our 4 year old, but didn’t ask how the meal was.
These guys are always kind and cheerful, even when they are very busy. Their sushi is always freshly made, and they make more to order, if they run out. With a smile. Great little local business.
I have dinner and lunch here with my friends & family quite often, great food and great service! I look forward to getting food here whenever I want takeaway, but eating in is definitely my first choice.only thing I would change is to not have songs on repeat.
You can't fault the quality, service and value. The quality of the food is always consistent; I have been back at least a dozen times and it never disappoints!
So happy there is a sushi train in town that does bloody good sushi! The karaage chicken is also delish. Highly recommend.
Visited with my friends for Sunday lunch. Staff were accommodating and friendly. Food was delicious, out of the 50 plates we had between 11 people there were no complaints. Great experience, I plan to return.
Dinner with a friend on a Thursday night. Got a table straight away as they only do walk-in. Some of the Sushi didn't look like the picture of it, presentation abit sloppy. I ordered stir fried Udon Noodles with Seafood, abit oily towards the end, I couldn't finish it. Was looking to try some desserts.most of them were sold out. Did like the touch screen. Good idea
Been there a couple of times since it opened. The food and the staff has improved a lot since open and the atmosphere is great. The only thing i would recommend is to have more japanese music playing.
It's great having a sushi train in mt barker. Dishes start from $3.80 up to like $6ish I think. (I stuck to the cheaper plates) you can order off a tablet if you dont see what you want or for drinks and other stuff.
Staff are lovely.
Not a lot of seating if you were planning a large get together tho. Probably best for under 6 people unless you don't mind separate tables.
They supply a lot of extras, like soy sauce and ginger etc.
The restaurant is super cute and staff are friendly and attentive.the price for food is so reasonable and the food is so delicious.this is now my new favourite sushi place?
The price is reasonable and the food is good, would recommend it for take away. Dining in is pretty average. Our table and order screen was filthy, staff is a bit slack - our order was brought twice, the waiter was eating while serving, the other worker was singing in full voice behind the bar. Despite stating they are open till 9 they effectively close at 8: 30 and start cleaning the place from 8pm. Maybe the place is better during the day.
Service from all the front staff was lovely. The Food was presentable and delicious. Would come again
Food was good. Too bad the place hasnt been cleaned since it opened. Very dirty. Disappointing.
Came for lunch today and ordered Tempura Prawns and Tempura Vegetables, when they arrived they were in a bowl full of liquid which totally defeats the purpose of crispy batter. It made both the prawns and vegetables soggy and unpleasant to eat. Last time I ordered these, there was no issue so unsure of why it would come in a bowl of liquid today. Disappointing: (
Summary: Very poor and the place is filthy.
Have been twice now in the past 2 weeks and can confidently say there will not be a third.
First trip we lacked any subject knowledge so jumped into anything that looked remotely tasty. Immediately noting that most of the sides are frozen packet junk with most of the sushi/ aburi/ sashimi being tasteless (how does raw fish not taste like fish!?) or drenched in Kewpie mayo to give it something remotely like a flavour. Was busy however so didn't get the chance to try everything we wanted and left more curious that satisfied - note there was a line up of about 8-10 people waiting for a booth when we left.
Second time tonight - knew what to expect and how to go about it. Didn't bother with any of the previously tasted sushi or similar options. Grabbed a few of the options not previously had - again most lacked anything that could be called taste. Ordered the Wagyu Ramen and Seafood Udon. Both should have been sent back and in a word were atrocious. These were left half eaten on the table and we promptly paid and walked out never to return - no line up of people waiting this week.at 6.00pm on a Saturday.
Bit of an issue when the most flavourful items on the menu are the cans of soft drink.
Will not be donating anymore money to this place.
I was surprised by this new restaurant. The wagyu beef nigiri is really tasty. I also like the Katsu chicken and honey chicken rolls. The stuff is also nice and patient. I am really happy because I found this fantastic place for me to go with my families and friends.
Had dinner here last night, it was great! The food was very delicious and the service was good and the menu had a variety of great options, great spot to grab dinner with friends!
2nd time dining here. Impressed with quality, freshness and variety. Staff lovely and keen to help.
Best sushi restaurants in MB I have been to. Fresh food and friendly staff. I will back again!
We have been to this new sushi place twice since opening. Fresh and tasty food, beautifully presented, and the flavors are well balanced all with reasonable prices.
