St Peter's Cathedral reviews
53 Beautiful old cathedral. Ornate stained glass and wood carving galore. Beautiful furnishings and you can see right up into one of the spires from inside. A few nods to mediaeval times with different crests on pews and upholstery with old style pictures. Interesting to see. Lovely garden and pond outside. The kids enjoyed watching fish in the pond.
The scale of it has to be seen in person. It's pretty big.
The staff there were really lovely and there's a little gift shop. There's a private little chapel out the back you can check out too and an eerie little staircase going down underneath the cathedral which visitors are not to use. I imagine there are tombs under there or something.
You can give a small donation to light a candle and the kids enjoyed exploring all the different chairs and kneelers.
Interesting to see the dedications over the years - some of the benches and outside pavement have been dedicated to the memory or one person and another.
Get some good pictures across these road under the big old tree (a type of fig tree maybe?).
Beautiful Cathedral. Well looked after by an amazing bunch of people. Worth going to a service. Amazing choir. Soprano from heaven
The Easter services were all able to be held in their full beauty and significance for Christians, unlike last year.
I've lived here in Adelaide since coming here in 1978. It was my first visit this week. It is an amazing cathedral with great architecture & stained glass windows. Can't believe it took me so long to go there.
What an amazing cathedral and is open to the public.
One of the best we have seen in Australia.
Volunteers where very friendly and made us feel welcome.
I have attended the cathedral for over 20 years my children have all grown up in the cathedral family and of course we love it
Only viewed from the outside of a night time. Was a perfect short walk from the InterContinental Adelaide to here.
Such a beautiful, old historic church that stands out in Adelaide city. I loved the model of the church which some clever man had hand made! We spent quite awhile inside, mesmerised by all the intricate carvings and all the stunning lead lighting on the windows and glass panes. We came by here after staying at the Oval hotel and apparently caught the tail end of the Commonwealth service. Was spectacular watching & listening to the bagpipes. We went to the very back of the church to the private prayer room and when in there you just want to sit and reflect. Situated right on the corner, this gorgeous building can be seen from multiple angles. So pretty at night time too.
St. Peter's Cathedral is beautiful. It's the closest thing to perfection I have ever seen. It's well worth a visit.
I attended the service @ 1030. I was greeted by Cannon Jenny and Father Frank (Dean) and Father Peter. They all made me feel very welcome from The Word Go. All the volunteers had name tags on etc. All Covid restrictions met. I was actually drawn to tears during the service. The sound was so clear. Live streaming available. God bless Arch Bishop Geoff, Father Frank and all staff and its people. A thousand stars for your effort today.
My husband and I attended the Cathedral on a Saturday morning, primarily as a place for quiet spiritual reflection. As impressive as the architecture, woodwork and stained glass panels are, the welcome we received from Barb was the highlight of our visit. While the main Cathedral area was suitably quiet, the Lady Chapel behind the main altar area is a more private location for reflection and prayer. Thoroughly recommended!
Stunning architecture. With the high ceilings and tall bell towers you can feel the grace of God as you step into an institution that is much bigger than yourself.
An ICONIC Adelaide landmark, rich in history and culture of this great city! The building is breath taking, a stunning neo-gothic/gothic revival cathedral built in the 1870s! The inside is just as gorgeous as the outside! I haven't been to a service before, but I would love to attend one day!
Beautiful church. Very welcoming. I went to service at 1030 on Sunday morning with my daughter. I forgot to book but there was no problems getting in. They had plenty of seats with 2 meters apart. I took my daughter 2 year old with me and there is nothing for kids but she stayed well-behaved. The priest was nice and friendly. The service and the music is very well done and impressive. Is an old British style Catholic church beautiful architecture worth it the visit even if you are not religious.
The Eucharist services at St Peter's (10.30am Sundays) are traditional Anglican - they're orderly and structured with some light splashes of humour. I've attended several times and one thing I notice is everyone, regardless of background or race is welcome here, although a street person may feel out of sorts amongst the well dressed - the sea of gray hairs. The incense swung around in a thurible certainly fills the nostrils in the morning, but for me they haven't quite nailed it with the aroma. If you're a Christian and partake in Eucharist at the front but are not a regular, you may get asked if you want a blessing instead. If you've got problems in your life and need some quiet reflection, here's a place you can hide out in the pews and pray, all the while enjoying an intelligent message with a gorgeous choir to organ music amongst majestic surrounds.
Stunning building. Nsother must see whilst in Adelaide. Free entry. Parking easy nearby up the side road and lots of local parking free and ticketed. Look for 1p-2p signs for free 1-2hr parking. Truly beautiful woodwork inside along with organ and beautiful stained glass windows! You wont be disappointed.
A wonderful old building with amazing features some old some new. The volunteers who staff the cathedral are keen to share their knowledge with you but it is possible to find some quiet space behind the alter in a small chapel. Be patient other visitors will eventually read the signs and shut up.
It was closed 1 November! The general section of their web site said it would be open after checking this morning, but a dinner dance is on tomorrow but it is also closed today. We looked in through the front doors although it said closed & they were busy putting the glasses on the tables.
So that was it! From the UK I find it very strange to find a place of worship closed for a dinner dance.
Very attractive interior with stained glass windows and spectacular organ! Relaxing and quiet place to meditate and contemplate your existence.
Disgracefully opulent for a organisation that claims it is to help the people.how about sharing the money rather than providing an over the top fancy place to pray for it
