ST Francis Winery reviews
55We have stayed here twice. The first room we had was a standard at a cheaper rate and was very old and tired. The second time we stayed, we thought if we paid more for the spa room, it would be better, but no. Could not watch TV from bed in either rooms that we had. Beds, furniture, amenities are all very old. You can hear everything and everyone from outside and surrounding rooms. The place needs a lot of renovations and decent freshen up, photos on their website did not match either rooms we had. Expensive compared to nicer hotel rooms, but the grounds are beautiful. We had a do not disturb sign on the door but the housekeepers still came in.
The rooms were clean but old and run down. The shower had no control on hot and cold water, it was quite inconvenient to shower. Not worth the price.
The surroundings of the room were abit unclean. The staff who checked us in were really lovely but there was a different member who took the keys wasn’t that nice, Didn’t want to speak much and kept things short.
There’s a beautiful lake around there.
Great value for money. Spacious room with huge bed and very clean. A lil tired otherwise would have been a 5. Staff very nice and meals in the restaurant were both tasty and hot. Short Walking distance to many facilities as well - would stay again
Stayed 4 nights here. Very comfortable. Needs a bit of an upgrade but otherwise a good stay and great location.
Thank you St Francis Winery. Our Wedding Day (25.03.2023) was absolutely wonderful. The nature setting for our outdoor ceremony was just gorgeous and made for a picture perfect day. We love the rustic charm of the venue, and not to mention the incredibly delicious food. Cannot express enough compliments to your talented and dedicated chefs. Special thanks to Tegan for being so bubbly, helpful and cool calm collected in the planning stages of our day. I would highly recommend SFW to others for weddings and functions.
Thankyou once again. Warm regards from Krystal & Trent.
Stayed there over the long weekend. The rooms were fine, a bit outdated but fine. Restaurant also fine, nothing to brag about. We had several rooms as our family was all there together. On the first day of being there we had just left and were out when I received a call from my sister (staying a few doors down) letting me know that the couch that was in my room was being removed and on the grass in front of the room, all my stuff that was on the couch had been moved and the door was wide open. I was concerned as to why this was happening as no one had mentioned anything to us. We had all of our belongings on the couch, our daughters clothes, our clothes, everything… and they had moved it all to get the couch out. Apparently they needed the sofa for another room and I was supposed to be advised this was happening, clearly I wasn’t. When I called to ask why someone was removing the couch and in the process touching all our stuff the lady on the phone was short and unhelpful. Didn’t offer any apology or explanation, just said “housekeeping should’ve told you, we needed it in another room”. For this reason, we wont ever return. The lack of customer service was not great and it honestly put a sour note on our weekend away.
My friends car window was smashed and they attempted to steal both it and my boyfriends vehicle, staff were pleasant and trying their best. Do not park in their guest carpark, same thing happened to others two weeks ago but their cars got burnt to the ground
Had my wedding there in December. I can’t fault st Francis. Linda the coordinator is fantastic, staff is great, welcoming and accommodating.thank you again for making our wedding perfect:)
I've watched this place set in a beautiful spot turn into a dive, once considered 5 stars I now think 3 is generous, restaurant used to be top notch now, no comment, rooms well spa was uncleaned and had a ring you could use if drowning, the bed was filthy and all night we could hear things moving underneath, I can't even begin to imagine what was under there. We complained oh did we complain yet, you would think we were the ones who had git drunk and smashed up the place, on reflection we should have! Wedding venue still seems ok however the rooms should be free for the homeless who would likely decline for a comfy spot under a train platform. PS The swimming pool was just plain wrong and offered a lovely selection of ringing wet towels!
Very comfortable and quiet place to stay, unfortunately the dining and gaming room is closed due to flooding. I would stay there again
Wedding venue and function was lovely and staff involved in that aspect were great. Food was great and the wedding was very well handled.
Rooms are old and need renovation, especially for the prices charged per night, but it was clean.
Staff in the pub area need to reconsider their choices to work in hospitality based on the attitude we were given from one unfortunate worker. Following the wedding, at 1130pm, no one was allowed to sit inside to talk over drinks, but we were "allowed" to sit outside, which was fine we did. But apparently talking and laughing is too much for this venue, who told us to "move on" as they had apparently received a call from a room complaining about the noise - doubtful given the wedding had the place booked out (or so we were told). If we had been allowed inside, the sound of people laughing wouldn't have been able to disturb anyone. But we were not allowed inside as they would have to re set a table for the next morning. Literal thousands spent at the venue and we were not afforded one table being re set to allow the bride and groom and their immediate family time to talk and catch up after the day. This is along with the snide comments she made about "having to clean it up" - so, was it actually an issue or was it laziness about having to do the job and wash cups that was the issue? Given the umbrance she had about having to reset a table, I'd hazard a guess to say the latter. So we moved on, despite the bar and gaming area remaining open. We were not permitted to sit together to talk about the day.
So while the function was great, I won't be returning and will be sharing this experience with acquaintences within not only the bridal industry and their parallels (beauticians, stylists etc) but also friends who are looking for function venues, as how you are treated overall is a very, very big part of making the choice about where to hold an important event.
This staff member definitely needs to be retrained in hospitality and customer service, as her attitude and actions tainted the experience for the bride and groom and their immediate families, and has directly caused an otherwise great day to be completely altered.
The room needed a good clean. Bathroom dirty, makeup stains on desk, horrendous stains on the chairs, filthy stains on linen the list goes on and on. To make matters worse there was a flood light shining through the thin curtains that made for a terrible night's sleep. Will never go back!
I was not overly impressed with this hotel and function centre. The room I was staying in just need some working terms of updating the infrastructure, Ripped carpet, flaking paint and uncomfortable pillows as well as it just wasn't clean. The service is actually in the best part of this place is the staff were welcoming and friendly. The owner just needs to spend some money
It would have been better if some of the staff could be kind to guests. The ladies with laundry seemed to be rude and the receptionists didn’t make my stay comfortable.
This is based on visiting the gaming room. Staff are friendly and welcoming, good selection of machines. And one lady staff in particular makes an awesome coffee.
Great quiet place to relax and enjoy help unwind from stress and be completely at home staff are really great
Attend a family wedding here yesterday. Despite the COVID function constraints the service staff and catering team were exemplary in their efforts and in the range and quality of the food served. Highly recommended.
Just wanted a night away for this trip so went with a no frills cheap room down south. We went with the cheapest we could find this time so while I will review the bad stuff first, we were still happy with our stay here. There were certainly no frills in the room. Old cupboards that didn't close squarely, carpet that looks like it was fitted by a kid, the front door was so hard to close and the shower would lose hot water every couple of minutes. The good stuff made it worth it and wasn't actually in the room but was outside. The little square they have in the middle of the hotel was so cool. Providing grass, seats and shade under the big trees has created a real community feel for the place. We sat down and just talked about the character of the building for ages. There was a wedding going on next door and even though they were close, the noise was still muted enough that it was not an issue at all.
Pokey, small, smelly, old room. Traffic noise. No fresh air (no open windows). 3.5 star is generous. Poor bedding. Smelly, damp bathroom. Reception staff ignored us on arrival for ages.
Everything was ok other than the fact the entertaining room 20 metres from the room was hosting a wedding and had their music and party going until 12am. Maybe check there's no events on before booking a stay here. Especially if you need to get up early the next day.
