Southside Muay Thai & Fitness Adelaide reviews
28 One of my favourite places, I felt so welcomed from the first time, staff are always friendly and willing to lend an ear if needed.
I always recommend this place to my friends
Just joined yesterday. The atmosphere, people and instructors were super welcoming. Can't wait for the next session already!
It is very addictive indeed. I had no martial arts background but the way coaches interacted with me and guided me was just amazing. They ensure that your technique is top notch, i love to challenge myself every session. Thank you to all the amazing coaches and Shout out to entire staff for doing such an amazing job. Highly recommended.
I started coming to this club at the start of 2021 and it has been a journey. The positive energy and enthusiasm that everyone in the gym has is incredible. They not only encourage positive fitness goals but also encourage healthy emotional and mental well being. It's refreshing to be surrounded by such up lifting atmosphere. Truely happy that I took a chance with something new that aided me in my growth and journey in fitness as well as other aspects of my life. Grateful for Ben for constantly enforcing positive attitude, habits and mind set! If you are thinking of trying something new that not only challenges you physically but also mentally then totally recommend:)
I very rarely review places however I feel this one is long overdue. After more than a decade of doing very little in terms of exercise and fitness, combined with a job that requires long hours of sitting, I knew it was time to get off my backside so-to-speak and give something a go. I had developed a keen interest in muay thai from watching numerous videos in the couple of years leading up to actually trying it myself and so the next step was to ignore the nerves and find a place that I felt comfortable and enjoyed training at. Despite not being the closest gym to me, I decided to give Southside Muay Thai a go from reading positive reviews and gee, am I glad that I did. I had never been a gym member of any sort before, so like many say, it was a little daunting walking into the gym for my first time at my trial lesson. I had no idea what to expect. I’m not sure what I was worried about though! The coaches politely introduced themselves and current students who had clearly been training there for some time helped me out with all the basics and made me feel very welcome. Fast forward and I’m now in my 5th year of training here and that friendly, welcoming, no ego culture is what Southside is all about. The trainers are great, and whether you’ve got absolutely zero experience with Muay Thai or many years, the classes are such that you’ll be catered for. The gym has multiple classes a day for 6 days a week, so for shift workers like myself it’s still easy enough to get to my 2-3 classes a week that I like to do. I have also had a great time training alongside my kids who have attended their kids classes at the same time I can train, which is very handy. My 8 year old loves his classes and his trainer. The staff at Southside have also been incredibly accommodating to me during the last couple of years with the impact of the coronavirus which I am very grateful for. Lastly, I think Southside truly caters to everyone, regardless of age, gender, fitness level etc. Many may think that joining a muay thai gym means that you have to fight or spar. I would say a large number of the members at Southside however are there for primarily the fitness side of things. Muay thai training has to be one of the best cardio workouts out there in my opinion! Conversely, if you are looking at a bit of contact and sparring etc, Southside has some of the best boxers and muay thai athletes to learn from, you just have to look at their results when they compete to see that. If you had have told me 5 years ago that I would be training at a muay thai gym and even had a crack at entering one of their friendly in house sparring days, I wouldn’t have believed you but the gym has made all of that possible for me. Give it a go!
An incredible, community-driven Muay Thai gym. As someone who has predominantly trained Muay Thai in Thailand over the last decade - it’s one of the few local gyms I really love being at.
SSMT's instructor for kid's classes, Lucy, is *fantastic* — all the stars for her personally. She's knowledgable, builds fantastic rapport, and gets great results.
She was also taking women's classes but wasn't well promoted or resourced by the gym.
If she moved I'd 100% follow her.
Management culture however is terrible — no business is entitled to your custom or your money, and you shouldn't have to prove you deserve to be there.
The COVID pandemic has also been very revealing about how seriously businesses providing services to children take their duty of care when push comes to shove — while conditions are unsafe for unvaccinated children, are they temporarily closing; are they offering membership holds; or are they sticking absolutely to the letter of their pre-pandemic T&C?
If, as a business, you use threat of financial losses to sway the decision making of parents around returning unvaccinated children to a poorly ventilated space with unmasked adults during a case wave of a highly infectious COVID variant then that does speak to your approach to duty of care — especially when other activity providers are being more cautious and flexible.
SSMT refuse to extend membership holds until children are vaccinated, and will not refund memberships that are cancelled as a result.
All I can say is I know who I’ll be trusting with my child (and my money) now and in future years.
For a business with one of the main principles being respect, they have absolutely no respect for their customers or Australian Consumer Laws. Asked for a refund and cancelled any subsequent billing for a 28 Day program via email because South Australia went into lockdown for a week due to COVID-19. Contract was specific date to specific date and they broke it. Haven’t heard back from them at all. DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THEM.
Southside is a place with an amazing community and super friendly staff. In the 8 months I've been at southside I have made multiple new friends and really fallen in love with Muay thai.
The intense training and super helpful trainers have also helped me to lose nearly 30kgs in a short period of time and totally changed my work ethic and outlook towards fitness!
Teachers are great and so patient with my son.
As a result, his self confidence has lifted which as a father I couldn't be more happier.
I can't imagine a better place to get fit, learn a new sport and meet new friends! I have been training at Southside for almost 3 years now and have loved every minute of it! The trainers are warm, inviting and extremely encouraging - whether you are a seasoned fighter, an aspiring athlete or have a 9 year old looking to grow in confidence, Southside is the place to train!
Classes 6 days a week at various times of day have also allowed me to fit training in with a demanding work schedule and really improve my life!
Absolutely recommend 10/10!
Absolute best team of people trainers second to none. Lots of respect to them. So much discipline and scills to be learned so much love for what they do and make and can help change love it.
As a relatively new member of SSMT I am very impressed with the coaches and training there. Over all a very welcoming gym with very experienced teachers.
Awesome place for all ages my boys were training there until the shut down from the government and will return as soon as they reopen. Great coaches and really friendly environment. Keep up the good work
I have been training at Southside for about 8 months now (with some previous training experience) and have been impressed with the high standards of the coaching staff and the fighters in the gym. The coaches at Southside are passionate about Muay Thai and will accommodate your needs, whether you are an aspiring fighter or someone who wants to get fit and learn something new. I highly recommend Southside Muay Thai.
Con you into starting up, then continue to take your money for 6 months. They dont listen and dont care about whatever is going on in your life. Honestly scum bags.
It was good for a while until I signed up and went nearly 2/3 times a week. I got a job interstate and had to keep paying my weekly amount for the next 6 months to then cancel my membership. Even contacted them to arrange something but I got no help. So I had to keep paying for something I can’t do because I’m not even in the same state. Ridiculous
Great gym to learn muay Thai staff are exsprianced coaches also good place to get fit what ever your goals are from getting fit to weight loss there is something for everyone
Awesome coaches! The gym has such a friendly vibe that's committed to helping me achieve my goals. Highly recommend this place
The trainers are always well prepared and I feel like I'm learning really efficient techniques. Classes for beginners and more skilled people are available. I joined the gymn myself and can highly recommend.
