Soonta Mt Barker reviews
23Quite like the food and the service… but 2x out of the last 3x times I’ve made the trip over, the store has been closed at least 45mins prior to schedule. Once occasionally I could understand but it seems to be becoming more regular in the weekday evenings.
The shop assistant came in from outside after I had been waiting there 22 minutes to be served. This was at 2pm and they were open. Another guy was waiting with me who was a Menulog delivery driver and he was waiting the same amount of time to collect this order for delivery. Very poor customer service.
I could live with the high price.
I could live with the dried out meat
I could live with the gluey rice
1 could live with the small serve.
But all four together? Feel I just wasted $22
I hate to say this, but it is probably the worst Vietnamese Roll I've ever eaten. The bread is stale, and the meat a little too dry. I would like to give this place another try but my wallet said "no". I recommend the restaurant owner visit other Soonta restaurants and see why theirs is a lot better.
Honestly, need to put more salad in! I have purchased from their city stores before and it is a very different experience. Spend 15$ on a salad you would expect more.
The staff are always very friendly. I have been a regular customer since they opened. Unfortunately since opening their bun bowls have increased in price significantly. It's the most I have ever spent on a bowl ever in SA. The pork is always good. However there is basically NO salad/ carrot or cucumber anymore. It's always just noodles and meat. If you go across the road to the other Vietnamese place. The amount you get for $5 less per bowl is incredible. Until soonta start putting more salad in. I won't be going back: (
Absolutely amazing food and the service was also very good happy staff i will definitely be back
Firstly, the lemon grass chicken is fantastic! I've eaten my fair share of bahn mi (never from Soonta) and a majority of the time, you get quite of few chewy, inedible piece of meat, every single piece of meat in the one I bought today was tender and easy to eat! Not only that, everything was extremely fresh:)
As a first time buyer of 'bubble tea' I had no clue how to order one but the girl that served me was very knowledgeable in each specific drink and in the end suggested one that I ended up really liking. Fantastic customer service and very friendly staff.
I will definitely be making this a regular stop based on the low prices alone!
Soonta not only tastes so good but the staff are always working their buts off because it's so popular. When the roast pork was a little dry and there was more on the way, they gave me a little extra and apologised. They are always so nice, even when I've seen customers be rude to them.
I tried their rice bowls and they were great, good food portion, fairly priced and quality ingredients. Plenty of protein selection for variety every time.
Whilst we enjoy the Bun bowls, they never have the meatballs available which is their only gluten free option meat for celiacs.
4 times now I've been here, there is never any iced coffee, all at different times of the day, very disappointed
Very dissatisfied. I specifically ask for no carrots. Instead, you put a huge load of carrots in the roll, which is the first time I've seen any restaurants do that. I ask for extra chillies, nope did not get that either. My only regret is I didn't watch you make it, and possibly could've save myself from writing this negative review. I couldn't eat all of it because it was that terrible, especially the over cooked dried pork.
Best Bun Noodle bowl in the area before heading into the city. When I crave a bowl and cant be bothered driving 40mins to the CBD.
I was welcomed as I entered the door and was down eating a rice bowl within 3 minutes. Absolutely brilliant food, and with a generous serving size.
Would highly recommend if you're just stopping for a quick takeaway meal!?
Such lovely staff! Bought a bubble tea and 2 x bun bowls. Very fresh. Good size and great value. Bubble tea was the best I've had in a while.
We had 2 rice bowls for dinner tonight, both roast pork. There was no meat whatsoever it was all complete fat. Was revolting, will not eat here again
3.5 / 5.
Nice enough, but in a generic borderline average sort of way. A bit pricey for the offerings which were in no way mind blowing.
Got the roast pork bun bowl. The pork was perfectly tender and got a great serving size. Staff were lovely over the phone too. My first soonta bowl and i will be back.
Usually places start out good when they first open in Mount Barker, then quality declines over the coming months. Well Soonta is skipping the honeymoon phase.
Ordered a Banh Mi roll and a salad bowl. Both with roast pork.
Now crispy delicious roast pork should be the signature of any Vietnamese take away. So how was it? Burnt and dry. So much, and so obliviously so, that there's no way the person serving didn't know exactly what they were dishing out. But so long as you get people out the door I guess?
Starting with the roll, well pork was as above.and that's about it. Almost literally. There was a roll, and some pork. A few slithers of carrot, and two quarters of cucumber. Not the type of roll you'd get in the city, over flowing with tasty pickled carrot. Condiments? I don't even think there was pate, sauce was absent, maybe you had to ask for it? It wasn't offered.
The bowl, depressing, but good if you're on a diet this New Year. A small pork ration, which was way too sparing for the price, not that I was too devastated after I realised the quality.
Fair warning too, cabbage salad is literally just plain cabbage in a bowl. You can get some dressing, but it's only a drop in that dry cabbage ocean.
Also didn't include a fork in the bag with the bowl, thanks for the drive back to grab one from the park. Guess that's on us for not checking.
We did get some spring rolls though, the only thing I can say that was ok.
