Sir John Franklin Hotel

We were in Kapunda on a Tuesday and the only pub out of the four in town serving meals was The Sir John Franklin Hotel. Recently renovated with a good (for a country town pub) menu, ice cold beer and good service. Prices very reasonable and 25% seniors discount made it excellent value.

Has recently been renovated to a high standard, great food, atmosphere, and friendly helpful staff, not to mention the wonderful food!

Had a great dinner here, burger was delicious and the steak cooked perfect. The salad selection on the plate was really good, not only lettuce, tomato and cucumber but pasta salad and coleslaw. Would recommend a visit for a great meal.

Stopped in for a drink. Friendly service and huge outdoor area which is dog friendly this is always a bonus for those travelling with pets. Thank you!

Took my son and daughter for dinner there on their birthday and it was good food with a good atmosphere.

Could be so much better.
Had the salt and pepper squid, just the frozen stuff.
Staff were pleasant.
It's a grand old hotel that could do with a tidy up.

Long wait and when it came out meals way too small for the money we paid for them. But on the plus side the meals even though small were cooked right.

Beautiful food. Delivered quickly. Lovely comfortable environment. Nice country staff and home grown vegetables and salad. Totally yum.

We actually stayed here. And look. If you are expecting five star accommodation then this place is not for you, it is pretty basic. But you get a room, a clean bed. And while the male toilets/showers need a bit of an update they are hot and clean. There is a common room and the staff is friendly. Not bad for $60 a night for 2 people.

Called in to the hotel unannounced looking for accommodation, we were given a large room with a comfy bed and heated, the room, showers & toilets were spotlessly clean.
A complimentary continental breakfast was also supplied.

The food we ordered was quickly served to us, the main course came with fresh vegetables (no frozen rubbish) and a generous size snitzel.
The wine list was suitable with cold beer on tap, friendly and helpful staff behind the bar.

Always been a friendly hotel/motel. Great place for a family get together or a catch-up with friends. Good country meals and outdoor entertaining.

Well staff at night were idiots. Usually an ok place but understand why the locals said don't go there the blokes behind the bar are idiots

We were at the Sir John last night and witnessed a situation unfold which just doesn’t sit right with me. There was a group of people, probably about 8 or so, sitting outside. They were approached by a local who I’ve seen harass and bully people and especially women numerous times. They asked him several times to leave the table and go away and he wouldn’t leave them alone. He got violent, loud and abusive towards them. Eventually was escorted inside. Not long after the bar staff came outside and told the people he harassed they had leave. They did nothing wrong and I was furious to see they got kicked out over someone who’s caused troubled so many times before. From what I saw those people had spent quite a bit of money already and the sir John would have lost hundreds of dollars from kicking that big group out. It almost seems like the bar staff didn’t want to kick out their friend.

Food was horrendous, should not be a 4.3 out of 5. Travelled 30 minutes to come get a lovely feed and all it’s been is a total let down. Shame on you!

49 of us went for lunch with an advance booking and forewarning of meal selections. Excellent
food and service.

Dining room was plain boring but the fabulous food & staff made up for a pleasant evening!

Staff are friendly, TAB and pokies are availible.
Great outdoor space with a jukebox, they have all your basic pub meals sorted.
Smoker friendly drinking areas, family friendly, kids are welcome and staff treat them well.

Indoors feels like a regulars only bar though.
Most regulars are welcoming, but some can make the experience uncomfortable.

But because rooms are cheap upstairs and if you are a big group of people the outdoor area has you covered it can be a great place to drink.

Great for a knock off beer, prices are stable.
But if you are looking for a place to party i recommend staying out the back and organising a private function.

Do not eat here go to one of the others and check them out
