River Cafe

Dined in for our work Christmas tea. Great service, friendly and attentive staff. We had the set menu and it was a nice selection.

Well, I was there with a few friends on Wednesday the 17th of November for lunch and, although the food was tasty, it was served cold and when I asked the waiter/tress to explain the reason, she replied that the chef said he served it at the temperature it should be consumed. When I complained to the manager, his reply was, "What do you want me to do? " My reply to that was "You are are the manager, you should know" to which he replied, "Next time you come in", I make sure the food is hot. Totally unacceptable service. No apology or remorse for serving cold food. Will I go back there again? No!

Saturday night at the River Cafe. Very exciting. But this time it really seemed to be lacking something. Music? Not sure. But it wasn't the same. The service was extremely poor. You usually get, highly skilled waiting staff. I guess they were at home having a long weekend rest.
So it's a 2/10 for service. You are usually made to feel special, not to be.
Ok.so onto the food. Excellent food thankfully. At least the chef was awake. The tapas idea I wasn't sure on, but it was very nice and well priced at $12 per person. Main course excellent. Dessert not many options and really to be honest, not fantastic. Would I go again? Maybe not in a hurry. They really need to pick up their game. Otherwise it's another fabulous restaurant finished.
Also where are the table clothes? Not on every table and should be. Poor presentation!
Management needs to do some work. I guess that's it.

Good food and service but like a lot of these restaurants that have been around for a while they need a face-lift

I highly recommend giving it a try.

I ordered a crab pasta and it had no taste it was completely bland. I didn't see any crab in it. I paid 35 dollars for plain spaghetti. They even didn't decorate the dish. Just literally a bowl of noodles covered in some tasteless pink sauce. Never going to come back and never will recommend any of my friends.

We were going to the ballet, Anna Karenina, at the Festival Theatre, so we had time limits. River Cafe was superb in taking care of our needs, and making sure our meal was served early for us to get to the ballet on time. The staff, the Dining Room Manager, the kitchen, all were amazing in their attention to us.
The food was incredible, some of the best dishes I have had in recent times. My complements to the Chef and kitchen staff.
The Front of House staff were genuinely friendly, courteous and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble, everything was efficiently and smoothly done. We enjoyed our experience at River Cafe and it was perfect for our pre-show meal. Parking was easy, and plentiful.
The venue is beautiful, the pricees are reasonable for quality menu and the amosphere is elegant but relaxed.
We will be returning for more delicious food!

Well done, River Cafe

Interesting menu choices. A fusion of Australian bush ingredients and Mediterranean cuisines. The pork mains was scrumptious (Pork fillet with crisp kale, pomegranate molasses & crackling.the crackliest crackling I have ever tasted:) ).
The staff were friendly and obliging, the service impeccable.
An enjoyable afternoon and perfect to catch up with friends over a good meal and a glass or two.

Ambience beautiful
All staff listening skills poor, didn't get our food as requested with no apologies. For a high quality restaurant we expect attention to detail. Medium rare shouldn't mean well done; serve with entre doesn't mean bring out once entree is finished as a cleanser before mains. Soy and lactose free milk does not mean full cream cows milk. Oh dear, service was off last night

Good was good. Thought we had booked in for special offer menu. Manager very rude explaining that booking was incorrectly done. Certainly will think twice about going again. No need for rudeness.

A very beautiful and lovely location by the Torrens river. The atmosphere was very nice and the staff were the best. Very warm reception and professional and engaging behaviour. The one-page menu has variety of choices and nicely done. We ordered arancini for the appetiser which tasted good, crispy and fresh but definitely needed more seasoning and sauce to taste better. The main dishes were filet steak cooked medium rare and the sous vide pork filet. The main dishes were very nicely cooked and balanced specially the elements as the sides. They were perfectly in harmony with the protein and complimenting the dish. The salad was ok and refreshing as well. Surely a must visit place.

Venue is wonderful and has been one of my favourite restaurants for many years. Love the view of the city lights on the water. Service is always very good.

Good experience for lunch. Food was delicious and fresh. We love the pork main dish and also the entree platter is good for sharing.

The lady serving needs to learn some customer service skills as she appeared really rude and pretended as she is doing us a favour by serving us. I asked if I could go stand in the outside area and she made a face and said NO, without any further explanation.
Food tasted great but qty not matching value for money. Great views though!

Great staff. Simple but great menu. Just needs a bit of a spring clean type spruce up. But still a great spot to enjoy a full or light lunch or a coffee and desert by our gorgeous river.

Very poor. Last year I have decided to take my family out for a coffee, wine and dessert after the our traditional birthday BBQ dinner at home. I spoke face to face with the guy at the reception few days before and I asked for dessert platter for 5 adults and said my expectation and everything seemed okay. On the day, poor start was made from the drinks order. Such well located and classy represented place did not have bottled mineral water insted we were offered tap, it would not be a big deal if the place is not presented as classy. Wine and coffee we ordered were only good points. Then our dessert platter arrived. It was two plates with 3x3 served pieces of deserts. Some of the pieces were tiny pieces of Pavlova, scoopes of ice cream, tiny chocolate mousse cake that was spilt in half to make count of one unit it was literally single bite size. Bill was $190 I've paid and decided not to complain as it was my Birthday and I wanted to keep a smile, however I felt robbed. Now I've accidentally came accros the page of the place and decided to leave my review. All I can say this place is another well located cafe/restaurant that puts money above the love for what they serve at the plate. Personaly if the bill was $300 or more I would not complain if the expectation were met and proper dessert served. Very disappointed, one of the worst experiences I've had accross the several countries I've been to. Italian background would be even more ashamed and disappointed.

I celebrated New Years there with family. The night went well up until we went outside for the count down. The 185 dollars per head package included alcohol which included a red wine on the table on arrival. There was a half finished bottle of champagne and an unopened bottle of red wine on our table as we went to the balcony for the countdown. The moment we stepped outside, I observed a waitress dashing to our table and grabbing both the unopened bottle and the half empty one. This was less than 5 mins after we stood up. I went to ask why bottles that were on our table prior to midnight were taken off our table. The manager advised me that “ the package ends at midnight”. Seriously? For drinks we’ve already paid for and even began to imbibe? Meanwhile behind him in the open plan kitchen a waitress was popping open one of our bottles and offering it to her colleagues!?
All in all very, tacky and shocking! I will not be going back!

For entree, dinner and dessert. The owner refuses to allow for that set menu to be used. I think they are scamming unassuming customers.sorry but I refuse to pay $200-$250, when I was expecting to pay only $180 at most!

Celebrated New Years at the River Cafe with a set menu. Every seat has a view and the food was really good. Being pregnant I appreciated the yummy Mocktail!
