Riba's Underground Camping & Caravan Park

An okay stay. The site was alright. More so the interaction with the bloke that greeted us which was not okay. We did ring the bell they had at the front door as we were outside their office hours.then greeted by a bloke that just looked at me when I got out of the car, then didn’t hold the door open for me when I was two steps behind him.then just asked me ‘what did you want’ instead of explaining what types of sites there were on offer.just found him to be very blunt and not helpful or friendly.
$40 powered, no water hook up. Under a shade sale.
Close to town, probably wouldn’t stay again tho due to the energy and vibe the bloke put off.

Stayed here for a couple of nights with friends back in 2021 & it was a great little place. Powered site which was covered. Plenty of room. Would definitely return!

We loved our stay at Ribas. We had 4 vans that we got into under shade powered sites. We were told in town that the owners were very new but we couldn’t tell. They ran a lovely facility. Given the heat of Coober Pedy a pool would be amazing but that was all it was missing. Would definitely stay again.

Very unique accommodation with clean toilets, basic camp kitchen, and tv/wifi room. We camped underground for two nights and are planning to return next week. The evening tour of the opal mine is amazing… Jason is very funny and this tour was our favourite part of Coober Pedy!

My husband and I spent two nights here, one night in the underground accommodation and one night in our camper. Great facilities and friendly, welcoming and helpful staff. Would highly recommend to anyone travelling through Coober Pedy. Will certainly be back.

This is a good place to stop.
Just out of town, so very quiet.
Good amenities, laundry, TV room, camp kitchen.
If you stay, do the on-site mine tour, Jason is a very entertaining guide. We stayed three nights.

The customer service was absolutely horrible. From the moment we walked in we were made to feel like an inconvenience. They has no water connections available however we were not made aware of this until after we made and had set up! This was also not stipulated on their website or when I called to book.
Would not recommend and no not because there is no water connection but simply due to how horrible we were greeted and treated.

So peaceful! Only 5ks out of town and thats a great thing! It’s so calm and quiet here; beautifully maintained we have been so grateful to have stayed here and it would be our first choice on our return visit. Hot showers included in booking fees, paid laundry, free outdoor kitchen facilities shade cloth covered sites! Everyone has been so friendly and our kids have loved it here! We will be back!

Very quirky and certainly a novelty experience to camp underground with the kids. Main drawback is not the facility.it is the risk of a snorer.which there was on our second night.it was like a bear roaring through the caverns underground. If people know they snore badly.please don't put others through it! It ought to be a legitimate question before you can check in! Overall a fun experience to pitch up underground!

Great place, spotless facilities. Beautiful sunsets. We did the mine night tour at Riba’s & it was amazingly insightful. Our host/owner was so knowledgeable and we left with an educated appreciation of opal mining. We had a lot of laughs too. Absolutely loved it & highly recommend.

We only managed one night stay, but overall the experience was pleasant, quiet, hot showers and easy access to most sites.
My Vietnamese wife was thrilled.

Absolute treasure, hidden nicely just outside of town.
Fantastically quiet, no town noise. Incredible amenities, hot free showers, be mindful water (is pumped in from a bore) is very precious out there.
Superbly clean amenities and park. Fantastic shaded cover for van.
Safe to leave whilst touring around Coober Pedy etc.
Huge scenic, screened, very clean camp kitchen.
Underground TV room, has fabulous area for children, adult relaxation or TV.
Sunrise & Sunsets are incredible.
Very welcoming, friendly staff.
Highly recommend, best value for $$.
You will not be disappointed.

What a fantastic place! With $24 for 2ppl unpowered site you get to enjoy: super clean toilet & shower, fly screened kitchen and underground tv room which was real cool!

We stayed in Riba's underground camping area a few weeks ago, in our tent. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity that is totally different from any other camping experience you will find anywhere on the planet. Totally loved everything about it. The underground TV room, the clean and tidy amenities, the fully screened camp kitchen and the hosts themselves who are very nice people. (a heads up people, dry humor at work here at Riba's)

We also did one of the guided tours organized and hosted by the owner of the establishment. The tour offers a comprehensive insight about opal mining whilst actually standing in a mine then takes you through the owners actual underground residence for a look at life in a dug out house then concludes with a tag along tour of some actual working mine fields using your own vehicle and communicating through UHF radio as you drive around the community. How cool is that. They even supply a UHF radio if you don't own one.

Coober Pedy is a unique town, but Riba's Underground Camping and caravan park is unique in it's own right. Go there, be thrilled, tell your friends, they will be jealous.

Great place, clean and comfortable. Amazingly helpful owners, who helped us fix punctured tyre on a public holiday and saved our outback trip!
We also did the mine trip which is rather small, but their knowledge about opal mining is most incredible!

Caravan park is ok. The tour was not what we expected.

Let me start with the tour
The owner who does the guided tour seemed so bored and sleepy as if he didn’t want to be there. In the first 1.5h we moved like 5 meters. We thought it’s gonna be more interactive. Additionally he was rude a couple of times with the guests. The guy that showed us the opal polishing later on was a more passionate and friendly host.

About the caravan park
If you get to sleep underground it can be a very interesting and cool experience but the sites outside are on a gravel pit with a wire fence between. Not a nice atmosphere. Amnesties are clean though. Shower pressure was terrible

This is very special underground hotel here and they also have mine exploration guide.they are very friendly and helpful staff here and toilet and shower room clean.beautiful view.

Great place to stay while visiting Coober Pedy. We stayed in our motorhome; powered sites are covered by shadecloth. Facilities are clean (and no coin operated meters on hot water showers as per some of the caravan parks). The underground lounge and TV room has free wifi. Our 5 night stay was completely hassle free. We'd stay there again if we return to Coober Pedy.

This place is amazing! The friendliest people ever. Highly recommend doing the opal mine tour with Jason.
