Rapid Bay Campground reviews
79$15 a night is a bit steep, if the weather is ok this is a nice spot, if it's windy it is terrible.
Love camping at Rapid bay campground. The beach is lovely. Plenty of squid to catch. Campground has toilets, sheltered bbq and playground for the kids. No showers though. Jetty only 5 mins walk away and caves to explore
I love the location. The loo's are kept nice n clean. Value for money.
1 star dropped.not really because of the place, but because of.well.people. You have to be prepared for no sleep as voices travel. Only takes one small group of people on drink (or other) to not realise they are being loud and you go home exhusted instead of relaxed and rested.
It's a tough call when you don't want to be the fun police, but it goes 10, then 12, then after 2am.and have to go to your car to sleep to try to block out the voices a bit.
One year it was the best weekend EVER.respectful campers, luck with weather and epic kayaking/snorkelling.
Next year mother nature wasn't as kind (uncontrolled chickibabe!) and a small gathering of people not respecting at least a 12am stop re noise.barhumbug.
Worth the gamble though. Just remember to pack your patience pills just in case and earplugs
Very friendly helpful staff at campsite Reena and Wayne. Great camping spot. Enjoyed each time in tents. Clean useable toilets. Nice bbq and play area for families with kids. Unpowered. Nice beach. Cool new jetty to walk or fish off. I caught fish first cast out.
I think the YouTube hype has made this place popular and overpriced.
Not very well organised camp spots and 0 facilities apart from a public toilet without soap for $30 a night. Don’t stress if you miss it as it’s definitely not a must see compared to the beaches of the Yorke and eyre peninsula
Great campground they always have the signs out thay that the campgrounds are full but that's because they would like people to call or msg the care takers of the campgrounds to let them know you want to come stay that way they can keep up to date with who is coming amd going that way they avoid having to turn people away at the gate fair priced $15 per adult children are free we enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning again one day
If you like camping head over to my little families instagram and give us a follow we love to camp 4x4 and share our adventures #travelling_familyof3
Over crowded, noisy, toilets were filthy, no showers or fresh water, not a shop within kooee too expensive for a tent city.
Little difficult getting booking in (very sought after campground) but it's so worth it. Some people invade your personal space. If you snag a beach side camp site it's amazing. Care takers are very nice people having so much to deal with. A little site boundaries would help.
Owner's sometimes don't pick up the phone, called a couple days before arriving but no answer and campground was full. I'm sure it was a once off, but it was still disappointing. Make sure they pick up if you have to drive out and are hoping to find a spot.
It was an itenary visit for us. But looked good BBQ and toilets all in working order. No showers as such but clean and maintained well.
Rapid bay campground is a unique place, the cliffs, the cave, the historic jetty and quarry. Its one of the few places in the world where you can find Leafy seadragons.
I give it 3.5 stars as although it's a rather nice place, you dont get a whole lot for your $15 a night. The toilets are publicly accessible, so can become rather gross during the busy periods.
There's free electric bbq's and tap water available as well as a couple of grassy and shaded spots.
The weather can be very wild, so if you're camping in a tent, make sure you have plenty of pegs and rope.
Wayne and the staff are always nice and friendly, affordable fees had an amazing time heard that there wasn’t alot at rapid bay but the abandoned mine at sunset is unreal and the caves are really interesting. Can head around the headland and there’s a private little cove that’s really nice.
Awesome spot, love the beach. Guy running the place is a champion. Give him a heads up a few days before you get there, they are really accommodating.
I was so nervous about free camping. This place was amazing. Stayed in Jan. Weather was beautiful. But windy but cold at night and warm enough to swim. About 5 toilets for each gender. Cost was $90 for 2 adults 2 kids 3 days. Stunning spot
Beautiful location. While we didn't stay at the park (it was full), the water, beach and outlook are amazing
Not allowed to give it any good reviews, too popular already, must book before you get there, not too big, toilets are good, beach is clean and clear, can get windy, lots of young families with kids, "NOT" a good place to make great memories. Don't tell your friends
For how remote the place is your not allowed to expect a fancy hotel. But didn't find the place fun at all. The only part I remember of this part of my trip to Uluru is the most amount of flys I've ever had to deal with in my life. A bit of history in the spot, but a bit run down and past its days of visiting id say. I won't ever be taking my kids there.
Not a bad spot to stay, but very basic. There are very few facilities to use (technically toilets are outside the campground, and only a few, they are in good condition though). A small playground next to it, nothing special but the kids loved it. Good place to start if you like paddleboarding or kayaking. The campground is right next to the beach and only a few minutes walk from a big new jetty which is great for squid fishing. The beach itself is rocky, you can find beautiful pebbles but it's far from the soft sand that you find on other beautiful beaches nearby. There is a cave within a few minutes of walking distance, though we found it a bit disappointing from what we had heard of it.
All in all we still had a good stay, but in comparison with other places we've been, it lacked a bit of beauty, comfort or accessibility to explore more (no hikes or interesting sights within walking distance). I do have to admit though, that I excluded accessibility to nice spots by boat/kayak, which we didn't do.
Good to have been there, but probably won't be rushing back.
Great views, peaceful, friendly.
Showers would be great. Not sure why they were removed
Toilets could be cleaned a bit more often.
What a magical place. Although not as protected by the wind as we thought but it’s worth a stop. If u got the right weather it would be a treat. Relaxed park run by nice people with a toilet block and bore water only. Barbecues and sitting area. Beautiful beach and caves, cliffs to explore and fishing off the pier. Can get noisy at night here and there but that’s what camping is about. Enjoy and explore here.
