Port Wakefield Chicken & Seafood Takeaway

First time here driving through Port Wakefield area for a camping trip, looking for a good lunch spot and found this place on chance. Upon first impressions, it looks like a traditional old fashioned takeaway style fish/chicken and chips shop, neat and clean enough, casual spot, with a couple of tables to seat only 1-4 (more of a pick-up place) and discovered three kinds of fresh local fish on offer. Chose some local battered whiting and a small serve of chips. (Correctly labelled enough for 2). Both were tasty and fresh! Fish was perfectly cooked/battered, very fresh, and flavourful, and chips were crunchy and fresh tasting. Would try the flathead and garfish next time. It’s getting rarer for fish and chip shops to offer locally caught fresh fish - so often it’s frozen seafood and the taste and texture is incomparable. (As such, I’m usually disappointed and hardly return when it isn’t fresh.) If they can maintain fresh options like this regularly, I’m quite happy to return and order from here every time I’m in the area. Thank you, for providing the best fish and chips my partner have had in a long time. It enhanced our trip experience to the region.

Second time I have stopped for a meal here. I prefer to avoid the servo meal deal. This place provides a meal that looks and tastes good.doesn't happen in 30 secs so you know it wasn't microwaved. Wasn't too long to get you back on the road again. Was served by human beings.

Great little Aussie take away, super friendly, and open past 7pm on a Sunday! Plus they have locally caught fish available.

Heard this place is good obviously they were wrong. Stop in on the way home. Ordered egg salad and fried chicken thighs and chips. Everything was very disappointing. Egg salad tasted like it was made a month ago. The chips were average, and the chicken was so dry that we can hardly swallow. The worst meal I have had for a long time. All I can say is I hope it’s not like that all the time.

Average food, but rather disappointing they had one lonely piece of chicken available even though they still had 2.5 hours until closing!? ! The owner/manager got rather defensive when asked why a chicken shop had run out of chicken so early in the evening. Nothing special about this place, yet the potential is there, especially since it is on the main road through the town.

One of the worst tasting fish and chips I have ever had oily disgusting overcooked potato cakes not even batted properly so save your money and give this place a miss 1 star

Great local chip shop. Way better than any of the truck stops in town if you're after some classic fish/chicken and chips. Seafood all caught locally and the price is super cheap compared to anything down town. Tasted great! Well done guys!

Craving a huge fish and chips feast and i’ve got to say, craving satisfied! Great service, quick and tasty food.

The whiting was delicious! And the chips were hot and crispy! The amount of breading on the fish was perfect, not to much to drown out the flavor of the fish. The service was great too, my only complaint is they charge for condiments.

OMG, totally loved their chicken drumsticks and cheese kransky's Yummo. Friendly staff will be stopping their again on my next Adelaide trip?

Waited over 40mins on a Friday night. No urgency with orders. However fish was good. Not too oily and not too much batter

Burgers are huge and great and chips are pretty good too! Good place to feed up on your road trip.

Chips were fantastic spicy chicken fantastic plain chicken very tasty.

There burgers are top notch as is the fish chips can be hit and miss but this review they were good my kids love the boneless chicken fillets we often get food here and go down to the playground with the kids the staff are always friendly

Steak sandwiches with the lot are to die for. Also the fish is very fresh and they aren't oily.

I ordered a roast chicken, Greek salad and a tomato flavoured pasta salad. The food looked and smelled great and it was delicious. I would stop by again when I am in town

Tasty burger with generous serve of chips although the burger was swimming in sauce which didn't look great on my top.
Good prices and friendly staff even though they were flat chat being Christmas holidays.

Worst fish and chips I have eaten in a long time, fish was old and soggy as were the chips. Found a hair mixed in with the chips too. Would not return even if I was about to die of starvation.

You know that rumbling, too long on the road, I MUST eat now feeling? The guilty pleasure of greasy carbs with a bit of protein thrown in for 'health'? That's why Port Wakefield exists, right?
Well, my order on the plate fell way short of the juicy window display at Port Wakefield Chicken and Chips.
How could they go wrong with a 1/4 chicken n chips pack with gravy? The chips were quite crunchy but there were way too many yukky brown and green bits amongst them. RIP chicken - it looked and tasted cremated. Go elsewhere!
