Port Germein Jetty reviews
39Great shelter shed with picnic tables. Public toilet across the road. Gorgeous wooden jetty that literally goes for 1.5km.
Beautiful place amazing views. Good for fishing and best to go on a normal sunny day, bit windy
Great explanation of the jetty’s history, pleasant when it’s sunny because there is a lot of wind
Might be a little town but it has history in particular the previous landmark of one of the longest jetties in Australia
Simple amazing place. So called the longest timber jetty in Australia. Not sure if this is true. But between the super long jetty and the longest ride ever. So worth a visit. One must be mindful of the wind
This is the second longest timber jetty in Australia; it’s a good walk all through the end and come back. There is a fish and chips van at the entrance - they serve good food!
Lovely walk to the end and back. Water was crystal clear and looked very inviting despite the season.
Will be back in summer for a swim!
A great walk to the end and back. Now a bit shorter as the end has a few problems. So only 1.6 km each way. The tide was slowly coming in along the some kilometre sandy beach. No wonder it's 1.7km long.
Great jetty️the night sky is spectacular on a clear night gorgeous sunsets & sunrises, good crabbing very long jetty, excellent walk
A must see icon of early settler days. The jetty is a metric mile long.over 1500m.
And when you walk thru the tin shed before the start of the pier, make sure you look up into the ol' rafters. An impressive piece of history rests there.
Nice seaside town, although unless you visit around high tide it's a bit of a walk down to the water. The jetty walk is a must, but be prepared because the current jetty length is 1.3 kilometres. Lots of good fishing and blue swimmer crabs out at the end of the jetty. There is a free bbq area and seating, and there is also a huge timber and iron shed that you can picnic under. Across the road from the bbq area is a large, well kept playground for the kids, and there is also a well maintained toilet block.
I love Port Germein, it's one of Australia's best kept secrets.
Coming from Victoria, but this place is bloody marvelous!
Well worth stopping and having a good look around the hole town, the playground, the jetty surrounding displays.
Amazing Place to take you Family Take em for a walk along the longest jetty. We did a video of this Amazing walk along with Michael's antics and a swim of the Manmaid (Male Mermaid) check out the footage at #BrucesPlanet. Com #BrucesPlanet
This is one long arse jetty.one and a half kilometres long.it's wooden the very end section has been closed to the public due to age and probably lack of funds to fix it.the tide goes way out that's why the jetty goes so far.it's probably the only cool thing in the town there's a pub a post office cop shop general store.that l seen. Close to telowie gorge and beach.some nice camps and natural attractions if you seek.
5 stars coz it's the longest jetty l know of
Decent jetty, but not as long as the Busselton jetty, so no longer the longest wooden jetty in the southern hemisphere.
Lovely place, half hour walk to end of jetty and back. Interesting info about history near jetty entrance. Toilets and playground. Lots of undercover picnic tables.
Port Germein Jetty was originally built in 1881 by John Wishart using sugar and red gum trees. In 1883 it was extended which made the jetty 1680 metres long, at the time it was the longest jetty in the Southern Hemisphere. Through the decades the jetty has experienced very rough weather, causing severe damage. The jetty has been restored in 1953,1975 and 1981. Today the jetty is 1532 metres long, 148 metres shorter.
Great town and jetty! Fantastic playground and picnic amenities near the jetty. The interp signage and metal sculptures are brilliant (didn't know about the oxen used to cart pro df use from melrose/Wirrabara to the coast)
It may just be the time I visited Monday May 24, but it was totally dead no people shops closed and wind you wouldn't believe but not a lot to rave about. I admit I was there for a short time and a bad time. But I can't see a lot of positives at any time. If your in the area great, but don't give anything else up to go there. P. S.not worth a photo.
