So much to love about Penny Hill. Fabulous service, wine and the ability to sit inside or out in the barn style shed - was perfect even for a cool winters day!

Not a great experience. Came with a group and we received very poor service. No explanation of the wines we were tasting, the waitress said it was “too hard” with a mask even though other wineries gave us this experience and they were wearing masks too. The waitress didn’t wait until everyone was seated to welcome us and start our tasting, she just started pouring wine and everyone walked in wondering what was on the table. Only received one white tasting and the rest reds? Initially thought we were booked in for a gin flight, but then told that wasn’t the case and that the gin section “doesn’t open” until 12: 00pm, but there was no urgency to try and make our experience better. No conclusion to end the tasting, we all just walked out when we had to leave for our next stop. A very awkward and unfriendly experience from 2 female waitresses, very disappointing and will not be returning. Shame because it’s a beautiful spot and location.

A very nice place to visit.
Good space for the kids to play and nice outdoor seating area. Gin bar was really good.

Lovely staff member looked after us we'll with tastings outside under the veranda, sorry didn't ask his name but had english accent. Pitty the kitchen is closed until further notice though or could've possibly been a five star rating. Good to see garden games available & being used by a young group of visitors too

Went to PHW for a group tour on the weekend. Upon arrival, the area we had booked was still occupied, and after a rushed intro we were given the option to wait out in the sun or wander around till the other group “felt like leaving”.

But probably the worst experience was from the bald headed bartender in the flights gin bar. He was rude and abrasive to every single member of our group, and when I’d had enough and called him on it, another member of staff just told us “that’s just the way he is”. Personally I believe that is a complete cop out and if he has a reputation of being that way towards customers he should be made accountable.

Loved this winery. Did an extensive wine tasting with 8 different wines, by far the most variety in the area. Chris, the man who delivered the tasting, was so knowledgeable and friendly. We also ordered an incredible cheese platter that was quickly demolished, even despite its massively generous size!

Went with my beautiful wife (of course) to Penneys Hill Winery today to celebrate our 29th wedding anniversary. We had a fabulous meal. The staff were absolutley terrific. The chef also treated us to a very surprising and totally unexpected desert which was very enjoyable. All together a wonderful day in a very pleasant atmosphere looking at the wonderful scenery of vines and gum trees through the window of the Kitchen Restaurant. Would definitely go back again.

Highly recommend the Bottles and Bocce for a large group. Great surroundings, sensational wines, and the ability to settle in and take your time. Luke, Craig and the team were all very accommodating and we will definitely return!

The restaraunt has an extremely limited menu with an aspiration to a finer standard dining that it can support; the dining area is uncomfortable and extremely noisy even when only half full (and full of flies) ; prices are exorbitant for the small portions, and they failed twice to cook my family's steaks correctly. At least the waiting staff were helpful.

Penny Dreadful!

My friends and I went to Penny Winery as part of the Spring Affair. Unfortunately, this Winery was the first stop for the day (bad start). When we got there, we were really disappointed with how unprepared this Winery was for hundreds of people. Firstly, they had ONE wine booth only. 150 people immediately lined up, and there was no way that I was waiting in line (in the rain) behind 150 people for a glass of wine. There were nowhere near enough tables and chairs, so we had to just stand in a bare paddock with no wine and no seat. The forecast of the cold day was known for over a week; yet there were no heaters, no rugs, and no undercover tents prepared for customers. There was a photo booth van available but you had to pay for your photo to be taken. We had already spent $70 on the ticket and with the amount that they were charging for wine (e.g. Double the price that Cellar Door charges for their wine) we expected at least some free entertainment. Everyone we met at Penny Winery hated being there and wanted to leave. We actually heard women in the portaloo toilets saying they wanted to stay in the toilets for the remaining hour because it was warmer and more entertaining. 30 minutes in, we asked to leave but weren't allowed to leave the paddock. We weren't allowed to go inside the Winery and do any wine tasting. We were told if we went to the bus to wait, our ticket for the rest of the Wineries would be voided. I don't understand how I was able to spend money at this place. It was uncomfortable, no wine tasting, and the only place to buy a glass of wine had 150 people lined up. It was the only Winery I have ever been to where I have not actually spent any money. We ended up getting permission from the girl in charge to leave, and we waited on the bus for 40 minutes until we got to leave the premises. After this Winery, everyone celebrated when we got to leave for Paxton. Paxton was very prepared. Paxton had lots of food, lots of access to purchase wine (therefore shorter lines), cheaper wine, 2 x DJ's, a dance floor with loud music and heaps of people dancing, many undercover areas, free photos etc. The vibe of Paxton was amazing. We had left a freezing, uncomfortable and boring paddock at Pennys Winery for a warm and fun Paxton Winery with good vibes. Everyone at Paxton was saying that their biggest regret was not leaving Penny earlier. And we felt bad for anyone who had to end their day at Penny. Our last Winery was Coriole Winery which was also amazing. They had a tent prepared for an undercover dance floor, heaps of food and wine, live music etc. Both Paxton and Coriole Wineries showed how unprepared Penny was. Wineries cannot help the Weather, but they can help how prepared they are to ensure that their customers are comfortable, or at the very least entertained. Paxton and Coriole proved that this is not a hard task to do. They used their profits for the day wisely and as a result, we spent a lot of money at their Wineries. Happy + comfortable = $. I hope that next time if Penny absolutely has to participate in the Spring Affair that they are better prepared.
