OstomySA(action required see Heather) reviews
16All volunteers, the manager is rude and not helpful. Only new to this place and have found it to be totally disorganised, with our order not being ready when we were told it was on a couple of occasions. It's nearly an hour to get there, and don't appreciate being told by the manager each time, that she works 40hr weeks, never has a lunchbreak and launches into a Covid rant and how the dear old ladies in the nursing homes are suffering! Has never once apologised for order not being there, even accused me if lying when I said I had rung before coming, it was logged on my phone even! Needs to have a paid employee to manage this place, quite evident the other volunteers live in fear of this lady called Heather.
The staff have always been very friendly & helpful, as volunteers they all do a magnificent job
They supply medical requirements (at govt/Medicare expense) to people who've had colostomy, or similar, surgery. Hardly the sort of place most people would need to patronise, although you can collect, & sign for, supplies on behalf of an acquaintance. It's a pleasant place with adequate parking, ramp & automatic doors. Hours open to public are limited, but adequate.
To all the wonderful people that take the time to post a review I thank you. It hasn't been with out it's challenges but we have built a strong team and we still have some improvements to make with our service to members. Members must realise that the front counter is manned by Volunteers and they give us their valuable time. We would love more members to give some thought to joining our team and lightening the burden on the ones that are getting older.
I have read the criticism of the front counter service and it does distress me that some members have had a bad experience, I won't make excuses but if we had more people offering to be a volunteer then it would make a huge difference.
2021 will bring huge changes with being compliant with the new rules from Services Australia. A lot of members don't understand the system and take it as we are being unreasonable with our requests for information but that is not the case.
Please be mindful that we receive our supplies on a scheme run by Services Australia and not by a private company.
Friendly volunteers serve you efficiently every time. We really appreciate this service. Thank you.
Paul and Sue.
Been there yesterday service is gone downhill since late last year when staff was infighting in front of customers etc did not get my order filled as they claim to have not received it. Would not help me but was told to fill out a order for next month March and pick up than. Not very happy as I live in the country and it is a 200km round trip for pick up. 13/02/2020
Just been today to collect husbands order & was appalled at the customer service or lack of not only for me but for another customer who mentioned serverall times that he was going through Chemo again & his requirements had changed due to this. He kept apologising for putting them out.why when it was obvious he wasn’t very well at all. The huffing, puffing & rudeness I was receiving was bad enough. I couldn’t get out of there quick enough as I was biting my tongue because there are signs up everywhere about verbal abuse & profanities against the “volunteers”
Well if this type of work does NOT suit volunteers go find somewhere else that suits your rudeness as it certainly does not fit in here with people going through this type of illness. The way customers were made to feel is atrocious & then to also have to witness poor interaction between the volunteers themselves was really uncomfortable. At the end of the day we go there because we have to not because we want to!
There have been some major changes for this charity organisation, that is a must for Ostomates! For a yealy membership fee they manage and supply Ostomy needs as per medicare allowance to some 5,000+ consumers every year. The paid and volunteer staff do their very best to provide good service in an understanding environment!
This is a poorly managed operation in which management from the president to higher up will lie and belittle their clients. As a carer im disgusted that they have recently be audited for fraud from the health dept and when i had to call regarding my partner orders i was rudely told we had not paid despite we had evidence to support this. After several days of shouting on the ph this careless company of liars suddenly found the correct info and without an apology has reactivated our order account. Be warned that these people will lie and cheat to gain extra money out of people with a disability and then try justify it when backed into a corner when exposed. I have reported my incident to the health minister and written to a local media station to hopefully let public know once again where our health system is failing. Shame on you ostomy association!
Amazing volunteers that give their time and effort to provide a range of essential services to those of us living with a colostomy. They have a wonderful range of products and services information and nurses to answer questions that clients may have. Great team and the best service we have here in South Australia.
I now know why they were having problems, hopefully my volunteering with the OASA will help fix the loss of staff. If you have time please help out. There are great people that work a lot longer than a 9 - 5 job. They get no pay.
For a non-profit organization. I cannot fault this place. Small annual fee for a years supply. I wish the best for everyone who works or volunteer here. It may get difficult at times with orders and such but you guys do brilliant. (Considering most service is coming from seniors).
*EDIT: FOR THOSE LOOKING FOR AN ALTERNATIVE* visit Ileostomy Association SA. Much quicker and a lot less fuss. The difference is chalk and chese.
Ostomy SA is definitely not the friendliest team. In fact quite rude and have quite the reputation of being so throughout clinics who deal with them.
Query every charge they try to make against you. Although they are not for profit the team often withhold information and will not shy away charging you fees which are not necessary. Also just a note, they do not have a secure credit card transmission process so if they request your credit card, do not provide this via email or order form.
Finally, check every item they send you. Quite often they made mistakes with no ownership to fix.
What has happened to the fantastic service once received from the Osty Association? I was told when I phoned that I would get a call back because she was busy! Well no phone call. I went in to collect my supplies - wrong order! I have phoned multiple times yesterday and today and the phone is not answered- yes during open hours! Wow what a change!
So thankful for the amazing support given regularly to us from staff at OASA. A huge thanks to Alison and Michael who always go ‘above and beyond’. It’s been 10+ years of regular supplies thus far - with many more to come.
More than happy to pay an annual fee (which is next to nothing!) - which enables us to access plenty of valuable supplies each month.
Thanks team! What a brilliant service.
Generally satisfactory. Volunteer staff aren't always well informed about products.
I've learned to check in advance whether products are on the shelves or need to be ordered in. I also phone before collecting goods, and they have them ready & waiting.
Ostomy nurse is excellent.
