O'Connell's Bookshop reviews
45Such a wonderful store. I go there when I'm looking for something obscure. Always helpful and accommodating! Thanks for helping me out with Pop's Kris Kringle today. Christmas shopping can be so stressful!
I loved the Victorian-ish vibe to parts of the shop snd wished their collection was more extensive even though they had lots of books
A quiet book store.helpful staff they had a few items I was interested in, some I could not afford but we're excellent condition for their age and worth it.manage to find a couple of books that managed to fit in my small budget.
This store features a fantastic selection of classics in every genre, polite and informed service as well as affordable prices for every bookworm.
I gotta say that this bookshop has a variety of popular past time favourite books. The prices are fair because they're priced by the quality and rarity. This place has been amazing. And the staff are friendly.
I've never posted a review before, but the way my family and I were treated in this store was so horrible that I feel compelled to do so. On holiday in Adelaide, we promised our children we would buy each of them a book to read. My wife and I being English teachers also had some books on our wishlist. About 10 seconds after entering the store, the store assistant quickly came over unprovoked to tell my wife that they had expensive books and if my children ruined any we'd be liable to pay; he then took a book off our 5 year old, who had been happily reading it sitting on the floor. His automatic assumption that our children would cause problems is something we have never experienced before. We left the store within minutes and will not be back. We have never felt more uncomfortable in a store in our lives.
Am exceptional place. All that you want a bookshop to be, especially when they are becoming rare. An olde worlde experience that all young people should have.
Cute little vintage book store that I didn't know existed. Very expensive though

If you want people to leave their bags at the front, maybe invest in some camera or put it behind the counter with you. My Friend got his bag stolen yesterday. Unimpressed
EDIT EDIT. Family business, maybe don't sigh so loudly when someone asks for help and you didn't have what the wanted. A Business like this has to survive on customer service and the mother has to work on this
Great interstate service, items well-packed, received promptly, and in even better condition than described! Friendly and efficient, highly recommended! Thanks A+
What an amazing book shop I’m visiting Adelaide and just happen to walk past and I ended spending and unintended few hundred as I couldn’t believe how the books that I’ve been looking for years and Benjamin so friendly and helpful had a quick awesome book review and he was in the same page! Highly recommended
Great store, old books, records, cute Italian Greyhound, very knowledgeable and interesting owner.
Great cosy book store with every sort of book even with some different variant book covers for some books is a great little store to even browse in
Brilliant bookshop with a huge range of pre-loved and collection worthy books, worthy of a wander!
I stood outside and looked through certain windows, and through every window I saw something different.
Please go in,

Best butchers. Great choices and food prices. I have 2 men who always enjoy their meat and I enjoy their prices. Great value and variety.
A treasure house of pre-owned books. O'Connell's is a valued institution of Adelaide's retail sector and along with the Oxfam bookstore near Hutt Street has kept my house cluttered for years.
The owner of the book store must be trapped in 2019 because there was no covid sign in, and when I enquired he just told me manual sign in with an unofficial sign in sheet. He was also not wearing a mask which meant when he coughed it went ALL over his shop.
The last time I came here was before covid and even then he didn't make me feel very comfortable and welcomed in his store.
Not going back anytime soon.
What a treasure trove! Please give yourself sufficient time to search through the shelves adequately, before heading to the Checkout! Start your Christmas shopping, NOW! Cheers TS
