Michael Treloar Antiquarian Booksellers reviews
13Looks like it could have been a cool place to find books, it’s a shame that the service was awful, a guy literally told me: “get out of the room” that was open and not even marked as “Staff Only”. There are way to say things and treat costumers with respect. Extremely rude, very disrespectful and disappointing.
It looks great place to find the books, but apart from that, they have the worst customer service I ever got in whole South Australia. I prefer not to go there, please pay a bit more and buy it new books from somewhere else.
I cannot recommend this bookstore highly enough. They have an astonishing range and, even more astonishing, reasonable prices. The staff there are outstanding, polite, knowledgeable and an absolute pleasure to deal with. Not only will I continue to deal with them I strongly recommend you do too, even if they don't have what you're after, they may be able to point you in the right direction or show you something even better that you didn't know existed. Big shoutout to Tom, fantastic bloke!
I love coming to the place, the aroma of old books as you walk in is just enough.
The hidden and rare finds you come across are exciting
Absolutely over the moon with my purchase. From purchase to receipt the process was seamless, communication from postal carrier spot on. Delivery took 3 weeks from South Australia to the UK which I think was fair.
Thanks again
I was in the city to pick up some pipe tobacco so I popped in to get Mick's thoughts on my first edition CS Lewis book and buy a few Aussie books. Funnily enough I had just received a first edition Australian history book from a librarian at the National Library during a few months ago. Anyway Rob the apprentice sorted out a companion set for the Simpson Newland Paving the Way type of books. I also noticed a Hermann Hesse signature on the website which looks good. A lot of his writing may be of importance going forward I think - specially the Glass Bead Game Unterm Rad ones. Probably education will change and he makes a lot of good points. Anyway after the purchases I did some smoking at the Botanic Gardens and had an interesting chat to some visitors. The Mediterranean garden was worth seeing probably Don Dunstan would have like it. Quite a work of art with the water channel running through the middle. Oh yeah anyway Michael did go through the dust jacket pricing with me on another CS Lewis book and my book had no re-sale value. But that was worth knowing as I picked it up for $2 from a Savers store at TTGully so I was happy that it wasn't a valuable book I had picked up cheaply. Otherwise I would have felt guilty.
By far the best and friendliest service I got in an Antiquarian bookshop, both Southern and Northern hemisphere. Great combination of beautiful rare books, old photography (temporary exhibition) and old music (dito). I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Adelaide! Hope to be returning again.
Great selection of rare and hard to find books. Love browsing and have found a few gems, including a treasured early-ish copy of Johnson's Dictionary which gives me frequent entertainment (yes it's a dictionary but give it a go!). It's a great escape from the city. The prices are fair market prices for quality, rare books. It's not a thrift shop type place where you will have to wade through boxes of airport novels to find something that may interest you, it's all categorised (or at least in the process of being), and yes there are cheaper used bookstores out there. For bargains keep an eye out for their regular off site book sales, some fantastic stock sold at these also. I have found the staff friendly, helpful and good humoured.
Michael Treloar is definitly the rudest book seller I have ever met in 40 years of collecting. His prices are a disgrace. He takes away the passion and love of book selling/collecting. I would not recommend visiting this book shop at all costs, he is the most arrogant seller I have ever met.
Very arrogant and rude 'little man'. Don't waste your time by calling this guy. He's ultra busy and therefore ultra unhelpful with his 12hour days so I have past my business over to someone else. If there was a zero star rating, then I would give him this.
Had a look in there, I'm a history teacher and was looking at specific texts.found that this little guy.in there thinks he knows a lot yet he knows little about anything!
Rude, crude and common.
Took my business down the road where I spent just over $300 Happy days
This shop found a rare first edition of a book I had been in the market for for ages. The book was immaculately packaged and was dispatched swiftly. Customer service was excellent.
Some interesting books but the prices are quite high for the books, I would say 5 times higher than the market price. They seem to come up with their prices on the spot. Strange way of doing business. I did like looking around at the lols they did have but certainly not worth purchasing.
