Mas National

Was placed in a Cert III Meat Processing apprenticeship with MAS through my employer. At the time I was 44 and had 17 years experience in the meat industry. After a couple of months I asked the instuctor from Mas at work about Recognised Prior Learning to which he replied "that's a dirty word around here". A couple months later the instructor informed me that my apprenticeship had been changed to a Cert III in boning which I had barely any experience in. I told him it was useless to me because the company had previously told me I was too old to start boning and he replied that I could use it to secure a boning position elsewhere. I replied that when asked about how much experience I have with boning from a prospective employer that my response would be virtually nothing he responded with I'll see what I can do. And then nothing happened. I left that employer a year later. Then I find out that 6 months after I left that neither the instructor nor my previous employer informed MAS that I was no longer an employee. Then MAS wanted me to fill out forms to state that I was no longer an employee and get me to chase my previous employers management to sign documents stating that I was no longer an employee. I believe systems like this are to provide employers with subsidies for as long as possible with restricted outcomes to the employees involved.
