I love this place.not many people know about it which means when we go and camp, theres usually lots of space! The waters lovely and great to kayak in.have been twice now and will definitely be back!

There were no signs saying 'No Camping'
We set up camp & then were told by the ranger we weren't allowed to camp & would be fined if we stayed!
Shame, the Lagoon was very peaceful. Probably won't go back there!

Great spots right on the river bank, or if you have little kids there's some spots further away near the lagoon where you can let the kids play without worrying about them falling in. About half the spots are flat enough for a tent and plenty of room for bigger vans as well

Lovely spot. Sandy roads. Great view. Take it easy when driving along and everybody will get through those roads in the dry season.

So peaceful, you can just listen to the birds and other bits of nature without a radio, traffic noise and if on a week day that is not a P/H no people noise. Just peace and quiet. That's why I live here.

Love Maize Island.a beautiful, natural environment, right on the Murray River, and with a lovely lagoon, full of water birds, in the centre and spectacular river cliffs along the river that turn a stunning, vibrant gold when the rising sun hits them. A natural setting and great camping spot for boating, fishing, walks, birding or just enjoying the calm and peaceful surrounds. There are no amenities for a reason so leave nothing but footprints, that's part of maintaining it's beauty.

So pull in on your houseboat, ski boat or tinny; or drive in with your camper, caravan or your tent, swag.accessible by car. Maize Island has been lovingly restored over many years by Rotary (Waikerie) and other local service groups so please respect their hard work. Keep to the designated tracks and leave your trail bikes and dogs at home. Sit around a warm toasty campfire (bring your own wood). You'll love the calmness and serenity. Enjoy

My favourite camping location, lots of different spots and each are a good distance away so you get a real serenity.
