Jack's Challa Fish Shop

So, after a few decades, of coming here, the time has come to not bother anymore! Went in today, and ordered some Fish & Chips. So whats the problem Old Man, you ask? ! I ordered a serve of Garfish (advertised on their chalk board) as 2 for $9.00, and a Butterfish (advertised for $7.50 for one), along with a cup of chips for $3.00. The place was very quiet, as I was the only person in there, at their peak time. I was watching what the staff were about to 'bag' up for my order, I noticed there was only ONE Garfish, and a so called Butterfish. I questioned the staff (not the new owner), whats that? The Butterfish was one third the size, of what I had a couple of weeks ago! Then the staff member responded to my query regarding their advertised price of the Garfish (2 for $9.00). Well, he said, the Garfish are much bigger! The one piece of Garfish, was at best, 1 inch longer (for you Gen Z ers, about 10mm). Good Bye Jacks!

It was very clean and tidy with friendly helpful staff. With good menu variety and reasonable prices

Used to go every week until the new owners raised the price of the chicken parmy.to be more expensive then a sit down restaurant

Authentic reliable old school fish and chips. Super friendly. Oil always seems to be fresh too. (My one quibble is the use of polystyrene trays for the fish: compostable cardboard could surely do the job.)

Would have been a 5 but the fritters were not in the same league as the steak sandwich and the crumbed sausage packs looks like this will be our regular fish and chip shop now

Very tasty old school suburban fish and chip shop. The Meat lovers Burgers might have single handedly given me heart disease but it was worth it ;-P

I dont normally write reviews, but I have tried the hamburgers, steak sangas and chicken schnitzel burgers and they are all sensational! Love everything on the menu, I'm obsessed haha! Awesome work guys

Been to this place a handful of times and doesn't matter what time of day I have gone as there is always a friend staff member who goes the extra mile to make your meal something special.

Not the worst fish and chips I've ever had, but a long way short of the best. If it wasn't for the friendly service, my rating would be a 2.

They really know how to cook properly their chips English style hot and crispy hot potato on the inside not soggy

Tried for the first time last night and it was amazing. Chips were lightly crispy, fish was perfectly lightly battered- 3 fish and chips for 2 for $20. Best fish and chips I have had for some time, will definitely be back!

The new owners really need to lift their game. The chips were cooked in very old oil and the schnitzel was very thin, tough and tasteless. I won't go there ever again. Also the shop was dirty.

What a shame, previously bought AB pack. Chips taste weird like its cooked in overused oil, lack of meat and lot of garlic soggy sauce. Bought fish and chips, same things, fish undercooked an chips weird taste. Finally bought a lamb yiros, but looks like a vegetarian yiros, with barely no meet. Red rooster in Kilkenny is a better choice. At least there is no miserable owner cutting on meat and quality there for profit. Won't bother going there again.

Have been going here quite regularly for a while now and could not fault anything until yesterday when I tried their AB. All I can say is it was the worst thing I have ever tasted in my life. The scarce amount of meat that was supposedly lamb had the texture of a push bike tyre. It was completely drowned in a sort of garlic sauce that had the consistency of water and to top it off the pitta bread had a mouldy smell to it.
I think the owners of this place should do themselves a favour and take a trip to the Yiros King at Reynella and learn
(a) lamb is
(b) what an AB should look and taste like.
Nedless to say I won't be going back here in a hurry.
