Ians Western Hotel reviews
57Very expensive for pub meals. Lasagne was very dry and all cheese very little meat, salad was ordinary. Fish was ok
Stoped in on the way to Whyalla hell nice pub manager is amazing litterly had the best experience.
We ate here in early march 2022. The service was good and the staff really nice. The food was nice for the most part as well. We enjoyed the crumbed Camembert entree, Garlic Prawns and steak sandwich meals. The only issue we found was the dressing on the salad had a real tang to it which was hard on the palette and left a mild undesirable after taste. Whilst it was okay to an extent by itself with the Camembert, it certainly didn't belong with the garlic prawns in any way. If I had known the same salad with dressing was going to be included with the garlic prawns I would have asked for no dressing, the flavours did not mix or compliment each other in any way. I feel the garlic prawns were a little overpriced as well, though there were about 8-10 prawns which was a good amount for the meal and the garlic sauce was lovely.
Meal was good, with 20 % off for seniors, only downside was, that we had to wait over an hour for the order. NOT IDEAL.
Past through on my way home and popped in for a feed, I was pleasantly suprised at the quality of food and level of service. I will be going there again on my way to my next adventure
Never in my travels have I come to a pub so warm and friendly, I dined in the front bar and the seafood basket was delicious! I will definitely be back another time, and every time I pass through port Augusta!
Great meals, good staff, clean and tidy, gaming room and sports bar along with a nice set restraint
We ate at the Western Hotel and had a drink (or two) when we were up Pt Augusta way recently. Nice meal - loved the Bird in Hand wine that the staff recommended. Lovely atmosphere and couldn't speak more highly of the service.
I'll be back up that way soon - see you again soon!
Food took 1.5hrs to come out after the kids meals olny offered us 1 free drink didn't get angry hoping the food was going to be good then complete let down.wont be back.
Flash.
It's just flash in there. Great service, looks swish AND some of the latest pokies, just what ya want in a regional town, the locals are flabbergasted by these new fandangled machines!
The carpet is lovely, too
We had dinner here 24/09/21. Strife had Beef Masaman Curry, beef was so tender, I had the Grazier Pie wiv mash spud/mushee peas. Both excellent! Service and Staff Top Notch, couldnt ask for a better experience- except if it was free! Recommend too all!
I've only given it 3 stars as it met expectations, but I wouldn't hesitate to go there again if I am ever in Port Augusta.
I arrived at 8: 15pm after a long drive up from Adelaide. We ordered at 8: 30pm when the kitchen was closing, but they were accommodating and happily took our order. They had a $5.5 weekly beer (pint) special and the food was good. The schnitzel I ordered was a decent size. So no complaints.
Good spot for a counter meal, I would recommend booking ahead due to COVID restrictions reduced capacity
Rushed with rude service. And the chicken schnitzel was processed very very poor.
Wont go back.
Extremely disappointed, fillet steak was dry and over cooked, everything else on plate was sub standard. It's not hard to get it right and it doesn't cost a lot more. Avoid this restaurant if you like good food. Staff were friendly though.
After spending 10 days in the outback, it was a welcome sight. Fresh, clean and quick. Thank you!
We visited Port Augusta for a few days & we dined at the Western Hotel for dinner Saturday & Sunday night the food was fantastic both times The staff was so friendly the service was great.
Ordered a 2 fillet of George whiting with salad and chips that cost me over 30dollars. I was disappointed in the size of the fish fillets, the size of portion of chips, one of my fish fillets tasted foul, didn't taste fresh at all knowing that your right by the sea, and where tight on tartar sauce. I could of got a better serving and better price at a fish n chip shop.
And I never got a third serving of Whiting either.
Went in for dinner without a reservation because we it was the nearest pub to where we were staying and we were told it was a good place to eat. While the food was good, it was the service attitude from one staff member that was just horrible. She rolled her eyes when I said we didn't have a booking and put us on a table that was still available. When I came up to order she told me I couldn't order drinks when I ordered the food and that I had to go to the bar. Then after the order was all placed and I was just about to pay she decided to inform me just as the eftpos machine asked for my card that there was a surcharge because it was a public holiday. Now I have no issue paying a surcharge for a public holiday but it would of been correct to inform me of that before I ordered, not just as I was about to pay.
There was then debate between her and staff as to if the children's pop top drinks were the ones that were meant to be served with the kids meal. Other staff all seemed to say that they usually gave them but she was saying my children had to have cloudy Apple juice or Crandberry juice. Neither of which my children drink. She finally gave one of the bottles, with a lemonade and then walked away, leaving me standing there unable to order any adult drinks. It was honestly very rude behaviour especially since another gentleman who started ordering just after me was allowed to order his glasses of wine with the food
and pay for it all at the same time.
I actually had to go through the door to the front bar to have someone serve me to get some other drinks but when I came back she was then serving someone else at the bar in the dining room. When we were in the middle of our meal this same staff member approached and asked if we were finished, considering there was still meat on my plate and both my partner and I has our cutlery sitting on the edge of the plate in use, I was shocked and replied quickly 'No, not at all', stopping her from taking my daughter plate which was full with her cut up chicken and chips on it. I have no idea what seemed to annoy her about us when we walked in the door but her attitude towards us was just unacceptable and continued throughout our whole meal. I gave 2 stars because the kids meals came quickly and although they were huge portions for children, they were tasty.
As for the rest, We won't be returning again and if anyone asks we will tell them it isn't as good as it looks.
Maybe your staff need some retraining in manners and customer service.
We had a lovely dinner. The schnitzels are big and the salad was fresh and crispy. If I had to complain, I'd say there weren't many chips, but the schnitzel was huge, so it was still a rather large meal. Book for between 5: 30 and 6: 00pm if you'd like to have a nice relaxing atmosphere, with very few people and extremely fast service. It gets busier after that, but would still be great The staff were friendly and the dining area was modern, clean and enjoyable to sit in.
