Holowiliena Station reviews
18We just enjoyed an amazing 4 nights at Holowiliena. Our campsite was very quiet and private and came with a good supply of firewood and a sky filled with stars every night. We loved the history tour (including a delicious morning tea) and were in awe of the stories Luke and Frances shared of both the 170 years history of the station and their own journey. We feel privileged to have met both Luke and Frances and also their inspiring daughter Stella who also shared her experiences of growing up in a remote area.
Amazing part of the world - highly recommend it:) My kids rated it as one of their best holidays ever!
Frances and Luke were exceptionally welcoming and helpful. The accommodation was perfect for us.and situated in a rather nice part of the world. A highly recommended experience.
What a wonderful place. The history of this station is truly amazing and our hosts were lovely. We will definitely come back again.
Called in for tour with Drive4life group.
Very welcoming family who gave us terrific cuppa & afternoon tea, followed by an informative tour of their historic station. Particularly interesting historical “Store/supplies “ & working Blacksmiths building with detailed information on how families survived in remote, historical times.
Well worth a visit.
We had a wonderful exploring and camping at Holowiliena Sation last weekend, the hospitality showed by Frances and Luke went above and beyond. The history tour is a must, very interesting and a look back to early pastoral life in SA. We will definitely go back to explore the 4x4 tracks.
Our 3 night stay in The Cottage was delightful and without the phone and Internet coverage, it gave us a much needed escape from our busy city routines and allowed us to reconnect with each other. The highlight however was a tour of the buildings hosted by Frances. Her knowledge of the station and it's history is amazing. It's so fortunate that Frances and Luke have such a great sense of history and are taking the preservation and restoration of Holowiliena to the another level and building on what Frances' parents Richard and Jan had started. We absolutely loved this place and wish Frances and Luke every success. Definitely recommend!
This is a beautiful place and one of the best stays we ever have experienced. The cottage has its own view of magnificent red gums and quandongs and is separate from the homestead complex. The tour was fascinating from a historical perspective. The home produce option included beautiful freshly baked bread, cake and biscuits. We took advantage of some great walking opportunities and cooking on the campfire. Frances, Luke, Todd and Stella were welcoming. It was a privilege to watch the school of the air in operation and take up the option to join the family for a hearty meal. The cottage is at core an historic 2 room stone cottage, with more recent bathroom and kitchen additions. It was quirky in that each room opens onto the verandah, which means a few steps in the fresh air between rooms. Above all, the immersion into the Australian bush was wonderful. Thank you Frances and Luke for providing such an experience.
Fantastic Bush camping and 4WD experience. Frances and Luke are great hosts and make you feel like guests on their property. The history tour is well worth it to learn about a piece of SA history, restored largely to its former glory. Frances even had Gluten Free GF biscuits on offer! The 4WD track is fun and has some beautiful easy side tracks and walks. Did the track with a standard 150 Prado.
If you want remoteness, quiet, beauty, and comfort, and a warm welcome, you'll find it at Holowiliena. We enjoyed a return visit after decades away, and admired all the love and hard work that Frances and Luke have put into restoration, improving the property and retaining its long history.
Great place to getaway and relax. Frances and Luke were great hosts and we thoroughly enjoyed the Black Smith shop tour, discovering the property and ruins. A truly beautiful place to visit.
A wonderful experience, staying on a working sheep station in the Flinders Ranges, South Australia.
Just enjoyed the restoration program on tv. Can't wait to visit this place when I visit Adelaide. History and Warwick family really touched my heart. See you one day.
Fantastic place with an amazing atmosphere and hospitality! Loved being there every second during the shearing!
After watching the best episode of Renovation Australia (yours) we're itching to visit. Coming from a family of "picklers, chutney, sauce & jam makers I'll be dribbling all over the cold store floor! Preserving is a dying art, some classes might be a great addition to a visit
I have done some restoration work for this lovely family and I loved the area and the history so much I had to go back with my wife and friends just to camp there and show them that some true aussie's still exist. Could not recommend a place higher then Holowiliena. 10 stars
We also saw the ABC on your restoration recently.
We have changed our plans after doing the Darling River Run and will now visit you in early March for 2 nights.
We are looking forward to seeing your restoration first hand as well as a another visit to the Flinders Ranges.
We are fully self contained with off road van and coming from Broken Hill. Any suggestions as to where we can top up our water after Broken Hill. Garry
I’d like to visit one day. I’ve just watched the ABC program and am very impressed with their undertaking to restore and share their heritage in this great land we live in. Australia. The people make our country great. Those that have come from far away lands (and still coming) are the essence of our diversity. That will keep evolving.
