A small gallery and museum in Hahndorf, with a little shop on the ground floor. The museum showcases historical items from Hahndorf, offering a glimpse into the town's past. The gallery features changing artworks, making it worth regular visits. The building itself is beautifully preserved.

A very nice museum and something for the kids to learn about the history of the town
Lots of first nations art which was cool.
There was also an interactive area with a circa 1900 classroom which the kids were able sit at and wrote their names on German.

Lovely old building with minor renovations to make it a respectable gallery and shop.
The downstairs has a gallery and museum and shop and upstairs was a gallery space.
The museum shows rhe history of Hahndorf and the gallery had an exhibition of large photos about Coen in Queensland today by Naomi Hobson. Very interesring and particularly contemporary in relation to the Coen community.
The exhibitions upstairs were "different".
But they were well worth seeing.
We were greeted by the staff in attendance and had a great chat before leaving and purchasing items.

Dropped in during our short stop here, friendly staff and offered us more information as we really like to stay longer next time if we find a chance come here by ourselves. Brought 2 handmade hats, $49 each.

Basic gift shop, but small museum attached made visit worth while.
Art on display very modernistic, would have liked a little more traditional style.

Hahndorf Academy is a cultural centre with a shop, gallery, and museum celebrating local artists and local stories. The heritage building, built in 1857, was originally a school, which operated for over fifty years before being used as a hospital/nursing home, council offices, and private residence. The centre opening as a gallery and museum in 1967.

Entry is free, though you can make a donation, and the Academy is open seven days a week between 10am and 5pm. The building also houses the Adelaide Hills Visitor Centre. The first room is a gallery/retail outlet displaying a selection of original quality handcrafted products created by local and South Australian artists and craftspeople. This then opens onto a gallery showcasing local, regional and national artists. Opening off the retail gallery is a German Migration Museum which tells stories of the lives of Hahndorf’s pioneering families. It also includes a selection of drawings by Hans Heysen. The staircase to the upper floor galleries is relatively steep but worth the climb.

We were also pleasantly surprised on the Sunday they held a free event, 'Imagine the Past', in the courtyard/gardens of the building, with weaving, spinning, embroidery, cheese making, timber joinery, wood turning, and blacksmithing demonstrations. Added bonus.

This a nice place to visit along with family and friends. Great history of the town and some unbelievable art pieces. Must visit if you are in town. This place got some really really old items including a classroom for kids which would be fund to go thru. Some of the aboriginal arts are extremely expensive and amazing.
There were 2 ladies at the front who assisted us with our enquire about the place to must visit.

Beautiful old building. Really nice vibe. A mix of contemporary art and craft, and a nice range of museum memorabilia around its German heritage.
Well worth spending a bit of time.

It resembles Germany. This visit reminded me of my Germany trip in 2010. Hahndorf is a small and attractive town not too far from Adelaide. Lots to do, a lot to see, a lot to eat-drink-shop and so on. Park your car and keep roaming until it's dark.

Sir Hans is a favourite artist of mine. The tour lead by a knowledgeable guide was most interesting. Great value.

Free entry and plenty of things to see and buy. Was a nice welcome and break from walking around town and spending money at the shops. I spent about a good 20 mins here before moving on. Some good educational stuff and history of Hahndorf.

Great artwork and exhibitions. Very interesting museum section which educates about the history of Hahndorf. Good quality toilets. All for free. There is also a visitor centre area for tourists. Only bad part is the stairs to go up for more exhibitions are pretty steep but they are historic. The staff there are always friendly and greet you as you enter.

Beautiful pieces of art. You can tell that the artists have spent many hours on each piece of work to create detailed and vibrant paintings. The best art exhibition showing true skill that I have been too in a long time.

Interesting art from many sources. Fascinating local history of the very old Lutheran / Germanic settlement. Worth a look.
