Contemporary Japanese Deli reviews
21Cosy little shop inside the arcade. Food was absolutely delicious so a revisit is in order. The staff were so friendly, the young lad is just adorable! And helpful. Pictured is: miso ramen and takoyaki. Both amazingggg.
Excellent service.
My Katsu pork curry sauce tasted a bit sour to me and the pork was a bit dry, the crumb was crispy though
My partner enjoyed his beef rice
Overall very good experience and good value
I absolutely adore this place, it is so cosy and the food is delicious! The staff are kind and the ambiance is very relaxing. They make the best curry here but you can pick anything on the menu and you'll have a great meal. I don't work in the city much but when I do, I try to come here more often now!
The food is fantastic, authentic and beautifully presented and the owner and staff are all absolutely wonderful!
The staff who work there are seriously so kind and polite and to top it off, it's the best ramen I've ever had! My new lunch spot for sure, can't wait to try the curries and bento boxes!
My friends and I regularly come here for lunch especially after classes in uni. While it's a hotspot during lunch hour, it's for good reason!
The food is fantastic and really authentic- my favourite dishes are the Katsu Ramen, Katsu Curry and Takoyaki (octopus balls) and the owners are very sweet and kind people! I really enjoy eating here when I'm stopping by Rundle Mall.
What a great one stop shop for all your lunch needs! Has a diverse range in menu items at a very affordable price. The vibe is very back street Japanese and the business is family owned! The staff were lovely and very friendly. Started lunch with the Kitsune (hot sweet tare sauce), beautifully presented and ate amazingly, the udon was delightful. Next was the pork katsu curry and pork katsu ramen, both were delicious. The pork katsu was super crunchy and fresh, the curry had a deep flavour with a hint of spice. My only criticism is my noodles were slightly over cooked.
(The photo of the curry was taken after I’d started eating)
Great vibe! Great lunch stop!
Had Tokyo Ramen, it was good. The broth was tasty and went very well with the ingredients.
The guys were very polite and helpful.
Would visit again for other dishes.
Great little place. Tonkotsu broth is delicious. Not a fan of the topping but taste very authentic.
Best Japanese restaurant in Adelaide CBD! It's not fast food, you won't get your meal within 2 minutes after ordering. But trust me your wait will be worth it. Every dish is made by the chef and tastes great. I highly recommend the Bento Box, you can choose from chicken or beef, with salad, fruit and rice, can't wait to eat it again!
Great Japanese food! They make extraordinary teriyaki chicken and at such a friendly price! I have tried nearly all the Japanese restaurants in Adelaide, including the very high-end ones, never got any teriyaki chicken better than here.
It was super cold outside and I thoroughly enjoyed my Steamy Karaage Ramen here yesterday. The waiter was very friendly and pleasant to talk to as well. Great place.
Contemporary Japanese Deli is tucked away in a small arcade and is tiny but has great food. My go to is ramen but the udon noodles are great as are the bento boxes. Friendly service and great value.
I have eaten here several times now and am always so impressed with the quality of the food and the friendly service. Today I had a yakiniku beef bento box and my husband had tonkatsu ramen and both were absolutely delicious. Thank you!
The Contemporary Japanese Deli is a small, unpretentious, but charming place in a hideaway location. Took me right back to a humble neighbourhood cafe in Tokyo, especially with the friendly and polite service. Tried the hamburg curry, which also came with some miso soup (and bought a $2.50 can of Japanese cafe-au-lait). Curry did not disappoint at all, just wanted more of it! Must come back again to explore more of their authentic and reasonably priced menu.
Syd and his father do an incredible job, hands down some of the best and most flavoursome Japanese food in Adelaide, you'd be silly not to try it! Thank you Syd always an pleasure seeing you and eating your delicious food!
I have my occasional lunch here on a business day. Love this family run joint serving some great Japanese meals.
My favourite is the teriyaki chicken bento box.
Highly recommended!
One of the best authentic ramen and bento box meals I had in Adelaide. No frills setup, just good food like you find in small Japanese eatery.
Always love the food here and the owner's are so nice the miso soup is homemade by his mum ️ and it's delicious
A nice and small Japanese place, very authentic tasting takoyaki and okonomiyaki. Katsu curry was pretty decent too.
