Commodore on the Park reviews
77 Great food, great staff and friendly.
I enjoyed the food.
The location is perfect.
The rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable. The service is very good. The food in the restaurant was cooked well and it has good menu options. The wine list is good, showcasing local wineries.
The only downside depending on which room you are in is, it can be noisy from the traffic.
Stayed a few nights here, and found the rooms, bed and facilities very good. It's just a bit noisy, with it being off Jubilee Rd- traffic a constant and the lorries going past at night a bit annoying.
The King superior room had an amazing bed that felt like foam and the bathroom was top notch, with a touch light in the mirror. Still if you want to be in the town centre and dont care about traffic you'll love it.
Love this place. Have stayed every time we’ve been to Mt Gambier over the last 30+ years, and it’s always great.
Great room very clean, had the best sleep the bedding was great. The staff very friendly. Had to park long trailer could park right near the room. Stay in room 27 if you have a family
The room was reasonably sized for the price and location was fantastic as it was right in the middle of Mount Gambier. Food for breakfast was fabulous and service was exemplary.
We booked the terrace room and was in room 28. Disappointed to find out that the patio was full of algae which made it very undesirable to step out.
However, what left a sour taste in my mouth was that we had to pay for a dental kit at an exorbitant price of $4 each, barring the fact that we were told it was $2 instead by another staff member the night before. It was also unclear that drinks weren't included for breakfast and the cost just snuck its way into our final bill. Would have definitely been a 5 star experience if we hadn't experienced any of those.
Grand King Room - very spacious, clean & importantly a very comfortable bed. Now the room was great, but the restaurant is something else. If theres a better eatery in Mt Gambier id like to know where it is. Food, service & presentaion is immaculate. Thank you!
Went here for a Fringe event & it was great. Food & service was friendly & prompt. Had a good time & will visit again.
Good location.
Room has all amenities which was great.
Room clean and tidy
Sofa lounge very uncomfortable.
Bed was very uncomfortable needs new mattress as both sides had dips in them.
Staff were friendly.
Clean quiet comfortable room. Good restaurant with plenty of menu choices, extensive wine list, pleasant staff
Beautiful bath tub in the room. Large and clean room with comfortable furniture and a huge bed. They have a nice restaurant up in the front.
Great meal here, loved the use of flavours and the presentation was beautiful.
Great atmosphere and cocktails were a hit
Room itself was ok. However I could literally hear next door's TV and people talking at night while trying to sleep. Terrible layout of two rooms septated by a wall and a locked door.
The staff were great. We had a minor issue with the air conditioning which they resolved pretty quickly. Coffee at the bar was really good too.
The lunch was great, waygu steak with polenta. I really enjoyed the steak, which was cooked perfectly. The polenta was a surprisingly good accompaniment
Obviously recently refurbished. The rooms are very clean and modern. Depending on what room you get the traffic noise due to the very close roundabout can be quite disruptive despite the double-glazed windows.
Bed was ok, shower was hot. Therecwere some real maintenance & housekeeping issues sadly. Want be staying here again.
Stopover on our journey from the Naracoorte Caves towards the Great Ocean Road. Clean modern.
Negative was my two bedroom suite was near a smoking point and there was a smell in my 'non-smoking' room.
Love dinner at the restaurant - we always head here when in Mt Gambier. Our room was modern and clean but the glass door to the bathroom was a bit odd (too small for the door frame), breakfast service was a little lack lustre (attention to details, speed of service) but didn't attract from our stay give it was included and tasted good. Friendly and prompt reception service worthy of a note.
We stayed here for 4 nights in a spa suit. The room was quite clean, the bed was exceptionally comfortable.location is fantastic as everything is very close, shops and attractions are a short drive.
Regarding dining, you can use the in house restaurant where you will find all the food to be quite good. All dishes were tasty but small servings unfortunately, for an example if you order a $50 250g steak, that is literally ALL you get, you have to order a side that are also are a very small serve at $9 extra each! Disappointed. I would expect this kind of meal at a 5 star hotel.
Also there really isn't any suitable meals if you have kids or if you, yourself want something simple like a schnitzel with chips and salad, hotdog and chips etc
We found they are reaching too high in the restaurant regarding prices, despite the good quality, servings were simply far too small. Expect to be paying for a couple including drinks, entrees and a mains each, $130+ at a minimum.
Drink sizes in regards to cocktails were also VERY small, I can't remember the last time I went to a restaurant or bar and ordered a cocktail and actually received it in a cocktail glass which is about 300ml! Everywhere else we have been, when we order a cocktail it has arrived in a tall glass with lots of fruit etc. Again let down with a small serve at maximum price.
Service in the restaurant and bar (we ate there 3 nights straight) well the staff were all very polite when we spoke to them but found were were somewhat ignored, we had to chase drinks we ordered more than once and then there was still a extensive wait time, up to 20 min several times and that was for a cocktail and whiskey. Hygiene seems lacking also, they will handle cash then go straight to cutting up lemons and putting it in a drink!
Also watch your final bill!
Regarding meals, the wait was almost exhausting majority of the time, 2 hours to receive entrees and mains was our longest wait. Yes they were busy but not full. That's too long when charging such exuberant prices. The prices should reflect the quality of the food and service.
A bonus is, if you do want something quick, cheap and nasty there is a Mc Donalds and a Hungry Jacks a 2 min walk away.
In all, our stay was ok, the room was very nice, the restaurant should just be a treat and the location is great.
I do recommend people to stay for the location and rooms but not so much for the bar and restaurant unless you have time and money to burn.
