Chu's Restaurant reviews
16 Had a wonderful evening here with three friends. Food was fabulous, the Pinot Gris was excellent, the host/owner was witty and knowledgeable. Will definitely come back, many times.

Months later: Have been back many times. Owner Wen and her chef are wonderful. I lived for two years in Penang in the 80s and eat kway teoh every night from the food carts. I have been searching for authentic kway teoh in Adelaide ever since. Chu’s dish is absolutely authentic, the first I’ve found in Adelaide. I’m so happy!

Just had the roast duck dish. WOW! I’ve never had duck taste so good! The food here, and Wen’s care and service, is why my partner and I return here again and again. Seriously, if you want top-notch Asian food, Chu’s is the place.
We looked at their menu online and called the restaurant to place our take away order instead of placing the order online. We thought we were charged $50 but noticed later in the evening we were charged $90. When we called to clarify we were told they had increased their prices but hadn’t updated their website for 7 years! When I said this isn’t reasonable she just said sorry. When I further said I wasn’t pleased there was no compensation or solution offered she again just said sorry. She didn’t even find our actual order to double check we weren’t actually accidentally overcharged…. So even though we enjoyed the food we feel really taken advantage of. We see now that other people have also mentioned they were overcharged here.
This restaurant is a gem in Unley. Tasty food was served and we had a great time there. We tried the chef's special - curry goat, the meat was tender and the curry was superb! The atmosphere was very comfy with soft music. Highly recommended.
Lady was very rude. Sat us next to the door where it was freezing and when we asked to move she said every thing was booked even though the place was empty the whole night. Basic food you can get at food courts or any where else for half the price. Refused to take the Entertainment book voucher. Do not recommend.
Acknowledging the poor food, service and staff attitude toward my wife and her friend today we would strongly NOT recommend this place.
Only gave 1 star because 0 was not an option.
Was told banquet was $35pp then on the night it was $40pp - didn't end up getting 1 of the dishes we swapped out, waited for ever for the mains after the spring rolls came out. There was only 10 other people in there who were there before us so it wasn't overly busy. Told us they don't do dumplings but there is a dumpling soup, surely they could have given us a plate of the dumplings minus the soup? This wasn't my choice of restaurant but thought we'd give it a go. Don't think I'll return, sorry.
Food was pretty good. It was a cool night and was cold in there. The food when served was tasty but not hot. Obviously need some heat lamps to keep food hot and warm plates too. Also despite being in the Entertainment Book did not give the 25% off that was on the site but waitress said she took off some discount
We had a table of 6 and we liked the range of dishes on the menu. The food quality was excellent. The service was attentive and friendly.
I dropped a star because of the high cost of a glass of soda and ginger beer requested which came from a large bottle. A preferred ginger beer from a small bottle of Bundaberg Ginger Beer was what the person hoped for, not ginger ale.
We liked the range of red and white wine. A sparkling red would be nice to add.
We all said we enjoyed the meal and will return.
Thank you Chu's staff.
12/1/21. Tuesday night, first meal since covid. Amazing standards of food have been maintained. Incredible fresh produce, excitedly cooked. Can't wait to go back. We've missed this place. 2019 Thursday night dinner, quiet and friendly. Amazing food, fresh and full of flavour. The roast duck was crispy and perfectly cooked. As was everything else. Just brilliant
One star for the hot n sour soup but that’s where it stopped for us. Food was very ordinary. Loads of veggies with minimal meat in the dishes.
All lacking flavour. Service was substandard. Will not be returning.
Eaten here when ever we visit Adelaide and the food is always yummy. Staff are happy and helpful and the service is great
Consistently fantastic experiences over the course of a couple years. Both service and food has been outstanding every visit!
Poor quality food. Ordered through Uber and part of the order wasn’t delivered. No quality control over what went into the order, no receipt and bag wasn’t stapled. Accused the Uber driver of stealing the food and said it happens all the time. Told us to order directly from them in future and not to use Uber.
Food ingredients are cheap but pricing isn’t. Terrible.
Will not use them again.
Really pleasant experience. Wonderful flavours. Good service. AND no small bowls that you get in a Chinese restaurant. I'll be back.
Vietnamese, Chinese and Thai influences with a very long menu which puts me off but some people like that. I prefer places that concentrate on one cuisine and do it perfectly.
I had a duck curry which was good, not great but okay, my friends had fish and prawn dishes. All fresh but nothing to write home about. However it’s cheap with no mains above $20 which these days is a miracle. So good value and plenty of options. No vegan options though.
Not my favourite but far from being a no go. The ladies are friendly enough and the service was brisk and the place is fine for a quick bite after the pub (the excellent The Unley is right opposite).
Wine list isn't great so check if you want something decent. There’s a bottle shop opposite though so BYO is a good option.
Good for casual but wouldn't go there for a celebration etc. They do take away and delivery too.
Have been here many times. Always friendly, great food and wines at reasonable prices.
Cannot recommend more highly.
Delicious!
