Catacomb Church reviews
14We happened to be in Coober Pedy over Easter 2021 so it was fitting that we should go to a church - an underground church! We were the only ones there so that was a bunus, being able to read everything at leisure and take our time with the photos. Well worth a visit!
Interesting underground church. The vicar gave us a tour and explained a little bit about the history of the place.
Farther of the church was so welcoming and knowledgeable. It’s always a delight to talk with someone local. Thanks for all the information. Sorry we missed the Sunday sermon as we overslept.
Good example of underground places. I liked it but seen one seen them all (maybe I’m a bit jaded).
Beautiful church we were shown around by a very nice gentleman named Arthur who helped us take a photo of all of us together

On a sign board it says the church is "named after the Catacombs of Rome, where early Christians buried their dead and met undisturbed in times of persecution.
Catacomb Church is an underground church dugout, with seating capacity around 100 people. It is cool all year round, without any air-conditioning system, except an electric pedestal fan.
When it comes to oxygen supply, the church has simple ventilation shaft built into the rock to keep air flowing from the outside into the hall below.
A modern group of enthusiastic people who believe in living the gospel and the teachings of Christ.
Quaint little underground church with dated fixtures and historic write ups. Friendly staff member that chatted about the structure and vent system. He added to the experience by suggest an optical illusion selfie below the roof holes. Well worth a look
Nice experience visiting this underground church in Coober Pedy. Loved the structure & cool climate inside. Fascinating information provided by our Oasis tour guide.
Was so interesting that I forgot to take pictures!
Great spot, leave a donation, very interesting, guy showed us around and talked to us for ages.real nice guy.
Nice. Cosy.
This is an interesting little church dug into the ground. It's a strange idea meeting in an underground church. Kind of spooky, and kind of surreal, and kind of antidisestablishmentarianistic. (Hey, I just think I made an Anglican joke. AND I added 2 characters to extend the longest real-non-medical English word ever.: D) I didn't get a chance to attend a service unfortunately, but I met a couple of the people and they were very friendly. Next time I'm around I'll def stop here for a bit longer.
It's just a church but the fact that it is inside a carved out bit of rock is where the attraction is. Some good information about the time it was built and used as well as having guest speakers throughout the year.
A friendly, all denominations welcome, place to meet and share some time, with locals and tourists.
This was an amazing place to visit in Coober Pedy. My wife was astounded by the ingenuity of the men who dug the church from the rock.
