52Good location (5 minute short walk to Woolies). Two minute drive to mall, main shopping strip, cafes and restaurants. Spacious, inviting foyer with large spiral staircase to upper floor. Working lift. Recently updated large rooms. Large bathroom. Solar heated swimming pool. We chose to eat meals in local cafes and restaurants. Sight seeing options are numerous. We recommend this motel.
Frequently have lodged here over the last 7 years, excellent service, rooms and meals, Ray
Great stay. Thank you.
Stayed in room 117—king bed. Nicely renovated. Very polite and helpful staff. 100% recommend.
I'm a woman who has a disability, so of course I was needing an accessible room. When I rang to make inquires regarding the bathroom, Jayden said that they had suction rails but I was very gibberish but it turned out beautifully. I also requested for a low shelf for my shampoo ect so David place one in for me. The staff went out their way to make sure that my needs were met. Jayden is a polite young man, made conversation with me.
Thank you to Jayden & David for making my stay very pleasant. ️
Staff were lovely and super helpful. Room was very clean and tidy. Great breakfast too. Would stay here again.
Good location and place to be in for a holiday!
Pros:
- Very friendly and accomodating staff, and goes the extra mile to make you feel welcome
- an open but private swimming pool
- spacious room, with updated/modern bathroom
Cons:
- Not enough options for weekend breakfast buffet
- heater in the pool was not working
- room could use some modern touches as it is a bit outdated
Overall, I will still recommend this place as it is very comfortable and accessible to the tourist spots, mostly only 2-4mins away. I will be back here again!
Everything about this 4-star motel was a pleasant surprise and I will list all the things I can remember below:
Pros:
1. They have a piano at the main entrance! What kind of a motel in a regional town has a full-size grand piano at the main entrance?
2. They have a full restaurant and bar at the motel, including room service options.
3. You can cast from your phone/laptop straight to the TV!
4. The TV remote lights up so you don't have to have the light on while watching TV.
5. The room has a table and a couch and is massive!
6. There is parking all around the motel with multiple access points, so you don't have to walk around the whole motel every time!
7. Staff are quick to action any requests and are very courteous.
8. Location is great with only a 2-min drive to the city centre.
9. The motel has a pool and sauna and they were both operational and great to have!
10. The main entrance also has little models for all the tourist destinations in the area, which was really cool to see!
11. Even for an old motel, all rooms security had been updated to access card, which was cool to see.
Cons:
1. Sound insulation really needs an upgrade, but that's really about it. The doors slam really loud and you can hear kids running through the slab above. You can also hear people walking by in the corridor very clearly!
2. Had some issues with our key, so staff had to let us in a couple of times and I wouldn't have thought much of it, but apparently others in the past have had similar issues too.
Mishaela at Southgate was very professional and assisted us in a kind manner. We will make our next stay at Southgate Motel.
Two out of three nights were lovely quiet clean rooms, third night was unenjoyable due to a 21st raging below us. Staff extremely rude when asked if it was a regular thing, very unapologetic and didn’t seem to thing it was a problem.
I’m sure Anthony Melchirri from Hotel Impossible would like to know if your running a motel or a disco!
Fantastic rooms and excellent service. Clean and very spacious and comfortable beds. Thanks Jayden.
King size bed is quite handy for family, couch next to the best provide extra assistance, all around is just happy.
Knew the overall facility is ageing, but renovation in the bathroom, all brand new tiles and pieces glass installed pays off.
Petrol station, convenience stores, Coles are all just around the corner.
Really enjoyed my stay here and would happily stay here again. We stayed in the King Deluxe room and found the room spacious and well furnished with very comfortable beds and good facilities for heating and eating food. We had the hot breakfast each morning, and found it well worth the $20 per head (especially seeing as it included the cold continental buffet with coffee and juice). The food was tasty and filling. The staff were friendly and helpful, although unfortunately lacking in number. One poor lady was in charge of almost everything all weekend (she ran the front desk, took breakfast orders, emptied room bins, etc).
I think the lack of staff is probably the reason for the few things that made our stay a bit less pleasant. No big issues, just quite a few little ones. Things like the mugs in our room not being clean (although dishwashing liquid was included so we could clean them ourselves), our bedside lamps not working, and the duvet needing to be swapped over as it had a couple of blood spots on it. The lady on the front desk was quick to fix things when they were brought to her attention, but these seem like things that shouldn't happen if you have rooms being properly cleaned and checked.
Very rude night manager 19/4/2022. Old facilities. Heated Swimming pool and sauna not working. Shower hot water also not working. Musty, smelly room. The bathroom roof is mouldy and can see water dripping out from under it

Windows looked onto carpark. Slip hazard in bathroom - appears
no water proofing. No shampoo or toiletries. Not enough power points to charge IT.
Large room with a recently renevated bathroom and a decent bed. A few points off for a few maintenance issues, windows needing a clean, insect screens in the corridors need to be thrown away and a shower that wet the whole bathroom floor.
Excellent customer service, large room, king size bed was very comfortable, room service was excellent
Clean spacious room, bed was very soft (not saggy) and a good mattress. Large, updated bathroom. Rain shower head with a good flow of water that I could stand under (I'm 6'6).
Fantastic place to stay. We are a family of 4 with two teenagers so the apartment option was great with them having their own room each. Specious kitchen and living room with everything you need for cooking. Airdrie, stove, microwave, dishwasher. Also has a washing machine and dryer. Get was pressure in both bathrooms and very comfortable beds. Only room for improvement is a few cobwebs, some mould in the bathrooms, ants in the kitchen and no soundproofing, being able to hear office staff on the other side of an adjoining door.
But over all for the price it was a great place to stay with all of Mount Gambiers tourist spots and shops nearby. Will definitely come back.
Room was clean and looked good. No soundproofing in this hotel and with people right next door talking until 1am and deliberately making a lot of noise. Needing to get up early I had retired at 9pm but got woken at 10: 30pm by the inconsiderates next door. With a hotel that was near empty, spread your guests with a room in between? Would never stay there again.
Beautiful place to stay
Lovely and accommodating staff
Amazing facility
Will be back to use function room for my public seminars
