Asian Gourmet reviews
21We had beautiful food here and they were very accommodating for us to eat our food at a near by bar.
This place is an Adekaide institution. It's one of my favourite restaurants for decades. Constantly serving very fresh and tasty food to a very reasonable price.
Very delicious laksa noodle.
Thank you for your service:)
+ Chicken Rice was also great.
Don’t expect good customer service from this place. It is one of those places where you order what you regularly have. For me it is either laksa or fried kway chau. The lady behind the counter, assuming the owner expect you to be decisive and move on. The food does not disappoint. It has the Asian flavour that you’ll crave regularly. Although sometimes it bothers me how indifferent the lady behind the counter is, I still go at least once a month because it is good food at a good price. I just wish she makes eye contact every now and then though.
I have been eating here for around 30 years. The BEST Hainan Chicken Rice ever. Cannot go a week without it. The Laksa is second to none and the Hokies Mee soup is amazing. Wish Doreen and Charles would open a Restaurant in the BV.
The servings are small and for the price paid, you are better off walking over to Chinatown and try the restaurants there.
One thing is consistent with this place - the ever shrinking serving sizes and the grumpy lady at the counter. The rendang lacked the salt that the laksa had too much of. Even with the tiny serving sizes we couldn’t finish our dishes. If you want authentic Asian food, you’d have more luck at the food court and you save some money too.
Love the nonya flavour, special laksa you can't get anywhere. I've tried others interstate nothing like it! Try it.was better along time ago from the original owner and cook, still ranked above the other coconut types. Just don't expect a smile from the owner! I don't think she knows what that is? Lol
They have Simple and classic Asian dishes, prices were ok, laksa was $15 (Singapore) and seafood ($17) the portion is v small compared to other laksa places but it was tasty. Kuey chow was spicy (asked for mild) and was good. Both came out very fast. Cant comment on service as I didn’t order but apparently they added a surcharge for no reason?

An institution in the central markets. There are a few dishes to try, but Laksa is the staple. Delicious, comes with a little sambal on top. The real deal.
If it wasn't for the smile free lady taking your order I'd dine there more often! Food itself might put a smile on your dial!
The kuay teow is very yummy and the Hokkien noodle soup and the laksa is very good. Used to come here as a kid. I miss their broad vermicelli laksa. They only have thin ones now but the broth is still good
Love the kwey teow from here. A no frills place, good food and that's all you should look for from here.
Brilliant noodle dishes, Kway chow, Pad Thai, laksas, Serves are generous, and they will adjust chilli for you, but be carefully mild means no chillies at all, medium is quite spicy enough for me,
WARNING: TRAVELLERS BEWARE, THIS SO CALLED ASIAN RESTAURANT MICROWAVES THEIR FOOD.
I came here last Wednesday to have some laksa and hainese chicken rice and had a terrible experience.
The laksa was below average, bland without any real seafood and the broth was definitely from a packet you can get at the local asian grocer. 1 Star for that dish.
The real letdown was the Hainese Chicken Rice. The dish came out and we can tell immediately that it was microwaved. The plate was way too hot, the rice and chicken were both dryer than the Sahara desert. I took a piece of chicken in my mouth and couldn’t stop chewing, wanted to spit it out. 0 stars for the dish.
Both dishes weren’t great. Thank god the portions were tiny for $15 a dish.
How this is an institution in Adelaide is beyond me. We felt bad that we would leave the unfinished food on the table so decided to take it away, so they milk you even more by charging you 50 cents for a container.
This is a joke of a restaurant and the owners parading cooking and serving authentic asian food are plainly ripping people off.
Take my advice and walk a few meters into Chinatown for better asian food.
Sooo good and reasonably priced very very casual no wonder it's always packed with locals 10 stars
Ordered 3 takeaway chicken Laksas with extra chicken in all 3.paid $12 for the extra chicken. There was hardly any chicken in any of the 3 laksas. VERY DISAPPOINTED!
One of our favourite places for years. Reliable, affordable and most importantly delicious and fresh food. Super fast service if you want a quick meal.
This is where I fell in love with Laksa. I have tried & tried and failed to find something as fine as this.
The best Singaporean laksa, Sarawak laksa in town. I have to eat there at least once a week. Their Singaporean noodles, nonya chicken curry and fried rice are amazing too. My wife, son and daughter we all love this place. This is a hidden gem!
It is funny to see some comments about the lady at the counter. I thought it same at first but she is such a warm hearted lady. Her memory and recognition on your face and preferences are great. You simplt need to visit more and experience her real hospitality.
See you my large bowl of laksa this weekend.
