Recently we put my husband in this nursing home. He was suffering from an autoimmune condition which left him with no mobility and very little use of his hands. He also had stage 4 cancer.
This home had no idea how to treat a patient with these conditions, showed little compassion to him or us, and his condition deteriated rapidly.
On the Mon morning when I visited him, he was showered and sitting in his chair, but so ill, in pain, and terrified, but no-one seemed to notice or care. At this stage he had lost all mobility in his hands and had to rely on calling out to staff during the night, for a drink. He was so dehydrated and his lips were coated in white mucus.
I called my daughter and we spent the rest of the day, with the help of an agency nurse who had years of experience and two wonderful ambos, who got him back to our local hospital where he had received quality care. He died the following night, peacefully and without pain after finally receiving the right medication.
This nursing home robbed my family of quality time with my husband in the final days of his life.
