Aldgate Pump Hotel reviews
71Love the Aldgate pump but I was a bit disappointed with my meal yesterday. Ordered a chargrilled rump steak “rare” but it came out between medium / medium-well. It came out 5 minutes after everyone else’s meal so I didn’t want to return it and have the others wait on me to finish the 2nd meal. Other than that the beer garden is a great relaxing area and overall had a good time! (Everyone else liked there meals).
It’s become a weekly visit after a few years of not coming here.
Great food, quick service, generous serves and you not too bad on the wallet either.
The lamb shoulder gnocchi was enough for two.
Keep it up.
Food was great & the minimal amount of young staff were attentive & polite.that's where the fun stops.after turning up to a shambles of tables & chairs with a floor that looked like it hadn't been cleaned for days i was then spoken to so disrespectfully by the owner that I am still in shock.clearly josie just doesn't know the definition of hospitality.oh & after spending 1500 dollars plus we were then told to clean up after ourselves.would not recommend.
Loved the outside sitting arrangement. Great hill vibes! Would be a hit for any sunny day lunch or warm evenings!
A new pizza oven is a sensational addition to an iconic hills hotel. The kitchen menu was already top end hills pub fare at excellent prices. Making a menu choice is now that bit harder with the smell of fresh oven pizza tickling the senses!
Food is excellent. Great red duck curry, seafood paella, lamb rump and pizzas. Family of 5 went there on Fathers Day. Quick meal preparation and service. Chef should be congratulated on handling a very busy time with excellent flavoursome dishes.
Dined at the Aldgate Pump tonight after not eating there for years (used to go regularly, then standard dropped). I heard that there were now wood oven fired pizzas and we thought that we would give it another try.
Delightful pizzas, very flavoursome, tasty dough (albeit a little thicker than we like). But the seasoning and flavours were very nice
We ordered 3 pizzas.the prosciutto, the pepperoni and the pork & fennel sausage. The first 2 were our favourites. Really delicious wood oven char flavour. Very nice, thank you.
Great to finally have quality pizza in the neighbourhood!
EDIT - the first visit was on a Friday night.
Our 2nd visit was on a Sunday night.
Obviously completely different chefs across these 2 nights, as the pizzas were disappointing the second time around.
The margarita was totally bland and didn't even have any basil on it. The prosciutto one was nowhere near as good as the first time we had it - it was quite underwhleming. Sugo on all 3 was not as tasty either.
We enjoyed the pepperoni pizza - we added anchovy. This one was great, and tasty. The other two were VERY bland.
There appears to be a lack of consistency - would be great to bring it back into line and make sure customers get the same experience, no matter what night they dine there, and no matter what chef happens to be making the pizzas.
Beautiful kangaroo hot rock steak, extra vegies not hot and not many vegies for extra money
Nice cold stone an wood on tap.
Excellent spot for lunch with a big open outdoor garden area. Beautiful location, leafy and big trees. Nice old building too
Average (food). 4 of us for lunch 3 weeks ago, 1 meal returned as it didn't live up to expectations. It was a parmigiana schnitzel which was wafer thin.
Lovely booth tables and friendly staff. Great menu with a good variety of food. The prices are highish but the serves are large with quick service. The schnitzels are huge but very nice.
So… just went into the hotel at 9: 10pm on a Saturday night.
Asked for a couple of cocktails.
Was told “oh I thought the door was locked. ”
Reluctantly suggested she was able to make drinks for us.
Felt unwelcome to the point where we left.
Hoping for the Aldgate to one day get up to speed with the rest of our beautiful Adelaide hills pubs
Had a birthday gathering in the beer garden for around 21 people. Beautiful atmosphere, delicious drinks and food was the pub usual but still good! Desserts were well worth it and looked amazing.
Ordered meals and i had nearly finished mine but my partner was still waiting on his, questioned staff and they stated I hadn't ordered and paid for his. Checked my bank account and could clearly see i had, staff member that took my order also recalled i definitely ordered both our meals. Not only did they lie about forgetting the meal but tried to blame it on me, own up your mistakes. Won't be back again.
Always good & again food & $ hit the mark along with a few &.
Love the new entrance & accessability.
Family dinner. Good options for the kids. My wife and I both had the schnitzels, hers was gluten free and very nice. Staff great and very helpful. Will be back.
Had lunch here with friends last week. Enjoyed the lunch, but the chai latte (most of us just love it) was tasteless.it was obviously just milk and powder, but it was just so thin. We went back for a second and asked for it to be stronger. Second one was better. If they want to have chai latte on the menu they should try drinking it and then get it right. Besides that we enjoyed our lunch. Just be aware that if you order a chai.get them to make it strong.
We had a birthday dinner here.it was ok but nothing special. My kenguru steak came cold. Gnocchi was swimming in heavy oil.
Won't be returning for a LONG time or until things improve.
Meals were brought out cold, and two missing the promised sauce, salmon was over-cooked, bar service was super slow. The stench of the hot rock meals was disgusting.
A cold night and a warm meal. The service was friendly and helpful and the food excellent. The setting in the misty valley of aldgate was also a highlight.
