This shelter is like a meat market for the cats. They are stuffed in a small living area with a litter tray and some food like rabbits No signs of any exercise or play areas.
Lady on the front desk was lovely. The rest of the staff had completely no knowledge of the cats background and where completely miserable and unhelpful
Nothing like the gold coast shelter.
Cats were all crying to get out and I found it very emotional.
Please if you are thinking of adopting a feline friend please go to this shelter. I would of taken them all if I could.
There is also 3 little beautiful kittens in there that are not advertised on the website.
I took a beautiful hymalian cross of 7 years and also a 14 year old Persian. Even the golden oldies deserve a special home

I’ve adopted two cats from the Willawong shelter. Both experiences amazing. The staff are so helpful and kind. It amazes me how many animals they care for. Highly recommend for anyone thinking about adopting.

I felt their attitude towards prospective volunteers was ignorant and a bit bullying. You are told at the induction - your job is to deal with the animal s_t. They just want volunteers to do what the paid workers DON'T want to do (but HAVE to do when no volunteers come). If you want to cuddle and socialise the animals (which is really important for their wellbeing, particularly the cats as they are kept in restrictive individual cages) you're kind of seen as a lesser being and a waste of time and space. There is no appreciation for the fact a volunteer is volunteering their time (for nothing, plus paying fuel to get there) and should get to pick the jobs they want and/ feel comfortable with with the PAID workers doing the s_t work.
For God's sake come and rescue some of these cats from their dreadful, isolating cages, but if you like a volunteer workplace to be flexible around what YOU want to do you might want to give it a miss. They also tell you that random drug tests are conducted by Brisbane City Council for all volunteers. Like, what if you don't want to do it, I enquired. The answer - YOU CANT VOLUNTEER HERE THEN. Only people who don't know their value will put up with their attitudes.

I have been a very happy Volunteer at The AWL Willawong Shelter for a year now. Looking after and working in the dogs area, Its the best decision l have ever made. Becoming a Volunteer is rewarding, and after the cleaning, you get to make a difference to the fur babies who just need some TLC. There is flexibility with hours, and the staff and other Volunteers are friendly and helpful, when needed if you are under pressure the staff always help out with the cleaning, walking the dog etc.l also drive for the Shelter and everyone at other shelters are helpful and friendly. I will be there for many years to come. ️ So l Highly recommend becoming an AWL Volunteer, it's rewarding knowing that you you are making a difference to much deserved fur babies in your care.

Went over the weekend to see the kittens/cats. You could tell that they were reasonably well looked after. Spoke to the manager and he was very well informed and provided alot of information.

I’ve been volunteering At Willawong since March. I also have a foster from here name Fang which I ended up keeping. These guys do a great job in looking after these animals, and they have such amazing staff who actually cares about them. They keep their facilities well looked after and clean and the animals are well looked after also. I’ve seen them take a dog from a lady who went to 3 vets and RSPCA who refused to take it. I’ve seen them first hand take animals with no questions ask from the people dropping them off. They’re great and if you want to support an animal refuge company then please do it with these guys. Thanks Team for keeping them safe.

Picked up my beautiful rescue cat from Willawong branch.
Ian on staff was super informative, genuinely interested in my request for cat.
Absolutely adore my new baby and would highly recommend this shelter as they do care about the animals and all have health checks, microchips etc.
I felt positive that my choice of cat had been looked after to a high standard and I felt comfortable knowing that she was in good health at time of adoption.

You have to be a very special person to work at this place.
With animals coming and going most of the time. Happy to see them being adopted but sad to see them not be. Special love attention given to them all.

Can not thank the ladies here enough legit.i was involved in a domestic violence situation in which my dog was transported from kelvin grove to here by police.i arrived to pick up my dog i walked for what seemed forever. Becky came out with a halo around her she donated to me 2 dog food bowl a towl.a really good harness in which i love, the longest lead i have ever seen in my life they even gave me a lift to the local train station.i would not have made it home safe last night if it was not for these girls.they even donated my dog some worming tablets.it seems to me that they just went above and beyond if you wanna donate to a cause that is actually there to help the public this is the place the place to donate to.absolutely thank you guys so much i can not describe how nice they were to me.thank you seems not enough i would love to eventually one day love to work with this organisation i have never been treated so nicely.

I was disappointed that even though I was told that I could rehome my dog there, they turned us away stating they were at full capacity one we arrived.
