We had an absolutely amazing experience at Sunshine Coast Karate taking our students for their first karate experience. Martin and Sandra are experts in engaging young people and inspired our students with their holistic approach to learning both values and physical skills. We will definitely be engaging with SCK again and look forward to working with the dojo to help our students learn not just how to do karate, but to understand deeper philosophies of respect, discipline, growth mindset and how to work with others.

Great place to get the kids active, learn some self defence and some self discipline. They have classes for the beginner, intermediate and advanced. Great place.

My two eldest children have been doing karate now for around 10 years. They're now 21 and 22 years old and just this year they earned their teaching qualifications. I've gotta admit it's still a little strange to call them "Sensei".

A bit over 5 years ago they inspired me to get started too after watching from the sidelines for so long. And my youngest daugher now 14 yrears old has been training for a little over 2 and a half years.

The teenage years can be a tricky and confusing time as they go through so many different changes in their lives. My children have really found karate to be their go-to place for gaining perspective and to reflect on a positive path in life. In challenging times, it kept them focused and goal oriented and kept them on a straight path to wellness and success. Not only has karate helped with confidence, fitness, meditation, goal setting, it's also helped them focus on what's good for them.

They have also enjoyed participating in tournaments, social events and karate camps. They have bonded and made long life friends.

Karate isn’t just an activity for us, its now our lifestyle.

Lets face it, being a parent is a tough job. I was so lucky to find Sunshine Coast Karate, who have been the most amazing and supportive coaches for my children and I for 18 years now.
As 5th Dan instructors and world champions of the Chito-Ryu style of karate, Senseis Martin and Sandra, teach karate with great skill, positive encouragement and in an energetic, motivating and fun environment. They are also subtle and influential partners in developing those positive values and real life skills which are fundamental to successfully navigating that transition from teenager to young adult.
Their learning for life philosophy grounded in personal challenge, team participation, physical and spiritual wellbeing, developed innate values of leadership, courage, respect, loyalty and resilience throughout my children’s primary and high school years.
Most notably these qualities were exhibited during those difficult teenage years. My children shared their knowledge and experience respectfully and patiently with older and younger karate students, even with their very nervous white belt mum when I began my karate. They stood up for what they thought was right and to school bullies, both for themselves and others. They proudly represented their state and country in competition, by having the spirit to participate and experience, not win at all costs. And most importantly built the fortitude and resilience to make their way through life's challenges with a healthy serve of self-esteem and independence.
I continue my karate4life journey, knowing my children respect, value and practice the philosophy and skills developed, as part of their membership Sunshine Coast karate family.
If you are looking for something to help manage the stress, uncertainty and frustrations of the modern world for your children, I can certainly testify and recommend Sunshine Coast Karate will make a positive difference to their, and your, health, wellbeing and future.

You will love Sunshine Coast Karate. We are hooked!
Our Three Children and I have been training and learning at Sunshine Coast Karate for a few months now. Why I included learning, is that we are not just training, we are learning so many things about Karate, and our selves ourselves and each other.

The whole experience is amazing. There are so many benefits. We are fitter, more flexible and we are doing a really healthy activity together. I am less stressed and more at ease in other areas of my life now. And my children are a lot more confident, have higher self esteem and are a lot more focused at School. We practice at home and we talk about Karate a lot. Its not unusual now for our Children to start a Karate Demonstration after dinner proudly showing us what they have learnt at Karate.
We were already a close family, but now we are a lot closer because we spend more time together, training together and having fun together. And we have also made some great new friends as well. We really feel like we are part of the Sunshine Coast Karate family.

A lot of people might think that Karate is just a lot of Kicking and Punching. Maybe that’s the case with other martial arts, but it is so much more than that at Sunshine Coast Karate. Sensei’s Martin and Sandra are amazing people. And so are all of the other Senseis, Senpais and leaders at Sunshine Coast karate. Everyone is really positive and encouraging.

There is that perfect balance of discipline for the Children, but we also have a lot of fun as well. The Instructors and leaders are so patient with everyone, especially the little Champions (Age 4-8). They just know how to bring out the best in everybody. Sometimes I laugh to often and to loudly at my coordination or lack there of. And sometimes when we sit in Seiza watching a demonstration during class, we sit in absolute awe of what we are seeing.

I train in some of the adult classes and in some of my kids classes as well. It is fantastic to be able to train alongside my children. We meditate, we stretch, we strengthen, we sweat, we puff and we laugh. If you don’t know what to expect at your first class, it is kind of like crossfit, mixed with Yoga, Pilates, Meditation, Cardio training, Martial Arts and Self Defence all in one. And if you are like my kids and I, the more you learn about Chito Ryu Karate, the more you will want to learn.

When you join, you will also have access to all of Sunshine Coast Karate’s online recourses. In the members section there are loads of resources to read and videos to watch. And if you have any questions everyone is very approachable and more than willing to share there knowledge on a certain technique.

Please come along and give it try. As they say the hardest part is stepping into the dojo and giving it a try for the first time. You and your Children might be nervous, but honestly there is nothing to be nervous about. There is no such a thing as being really bad when you start learning Karate at Sunshine Coast Karate, there is only room for improvement. What if you and your kids are naturals at Karate. You wont know unless you give it go. If you are willing to give it a try you will find all of the encouragement and support you need at Sunshine Coast Karate. We look forward to seeing you there!

Our 5yo is a bit of a handful at home, so we decided to give him a hobby. Karate was his choice so we went looking for a dojo.

I would just like to say that we were so lucky to find Martin and Sandra at sunshine Coast Karate, lucky because their dojo was the first we looked at.

Martin and Sandra are so patient and respectful to both us and our son, we had heaps of trouble getting him to partake in the first few lessons, but Martin and Sandra stood by us and offered us enough time to get him comfortable at the dojo. Now he waits all week to attend his class and is half way toward achieving his first belt upgrade, he is so proud of his training, he rarely stops talking about it.

If you want a great dojo where your child can grow in confidence and self discipline, then look no further than Sunshine Coast Karate.

My 7 year old son and I joined about 10 months ago and my only regret is not having joined earlier. A couple of months prior to joining, my doctor advised that I was a prime candidate for type 2 diabetes and cardiac complications.needless to say, something had to be done. I'm now 15kg lighter, much much fitter, healthier and well on my way to my weight loss goal of 25kg. Yes, I've had to do the hard work but Sunshine Coast Karate from the very beginning have provided a supportive, well structured, no-nonsense environment and training program that has given me the opportunity to be where I am today while learning a traditional style of karate. My son loves the training and has benefited in countless ways. Parents are encouraged to train alongside their little ones which is what I do on top of my own classes, giving my son and me special bonding time doing something we both love. As soon as my daughter is old enough she will be along for the free trial as I'm sure she will love the fun classes too. The instructors are excellent in every way possible and I could easily rave on about how professional, friendly, dedicated and passionate they are about their student's and their own karate journey. Regardless of your age or fitness level, I highly recommend Sunshine Coast Karate.

I wanted to start my then 4 1/2 year old son Patrick in a Karate programme to help build up his confidence as he was a very shy boy. We sat at SCK for approximately six weeks in a row watching the Little Champions train and Patrick was very keen until it was time to go in by himself and train and he would back off. Therefore after speaking with Martin and Sandra my wife and I decided that I would take him to family night and I would also train.

Almost 2 years late and Patrick loves coming back to SCK and recently competed in his first tournament where he received a 1st place for his individual Kata under 7 years of age and a 3rd place for the individual Kumite under 7's. This also culminated in Patrick being awarded the tournament champion for Little Champions Beginners.

Now my 4 year old son Lachlan joined SCK in January 2013 to help him with his discipline issues as he is much more extroverted than Patrick and Lachlan has earnt 3 tips on his white belt and can't wait to be awarded his yellow belt and enter his 1st tournament.

The sensei's and staff and SCK are fantastic, they teach the kids life skills and I would recommend to SCK to any and all parents looking for a wonderful dojo for their kids or themselves.

Like many, we looked to martial arts as a method to assist with our child's development. We looked at quite a few martial art forms and karate styles and Dojo on the Sunshine Coast. In the end the decision, a little over two years ago now, to begin our son's Karate journey with Sunshine Coast Karate, was made because of the family oriented, professional environment we witnessed. Plus, and a big plus, the smiles on the kids faces, who were in the classes we watched, whilst making our call. Chito-Ryu at the Sunshine Coast Karate Dojo has become entrenched in our family now, with all of us attending classes, enjoying the challenges and the journey. We've made some great friends, had some seriously fun times, got fitter and stronger and above all, have had no second thoughts. No matter how many words I write, I could not express it more eloquently other than to say.great place, great people, great friends and a great journey.

Finding the right Dojo for our then 5 year old daughter involved visiting all the Dojo on the Sunshine Coast, talking to the Sensei and other members. We were very impressed with the overall quality of the facilities, training equipment and all the staff at Sunshine Coast Karate.

Many Dojo are fortunate to have one very good Sensei and a host of senior Black Belts assisting. Sunshine Coast Karate has not one, but two highly qualified and experienced Karate practitioners in Sensei Martin and Sensei Sandra. Sensei Helen, Sempai Jim and others are equally committed to training and teaching all the students at the Dojo and do so with patience, kindness, firmness and passion.

Their Admin/Manager is like a second mom to all the young people there and is always available to answer endless queries from parents, provide support and guidance when necessary and offer just the right amount of support, kindness and praise to all the members.

Sunshine Coast Karate is at the forefront in developing training programs, training techniques, preparing young people for local, State and National Tournaments and designing and developing ancillary equipment.

Our daughter has now been attending for 18 months and we have yet to experience any dissatisfaction in any way whatsoever. She is thriving under their care, training and supervision.

We thoroughly recommend Sunshine Coast Karate to any parent seeking a Dojo for their child/ren.

We have been going to Sunshine Coast Karate since February 2013. We viewed and trialled at various Karate schools on the Sunshine Coast. We are happy to share the reasons why we are happy and choose Sunshine Coast Karate.

Prior to starting at Sunshine Coast Karate our 7 year old son lacked self-confidence and concentration. Since starting with Sunshine Coast Karate he has started to handle social situations with more ease. He has also been commended on his attention and work performance in the classroom.

As parents we are very happy with our selection of Sunshine Coast Karate, not only because of the improvements we have witnessed in our son, but also in the way the school is run. Both Martin & Sandra present themselves in a very professional manner. Sunshine Coast Karate offers a great sense of balance between fun and respect. We are impressed there are always senior students in a class to support the black belt instructor to ensure the children’s techniques are developing correctly.

For us the lessons at Sunshine Coast Karate really reinforce the life skills we are teaching our son at home - respect, confidence and acceptance. We would recommend this school to anyone who has children. Thank you Martin & Sandra and we look forward to many more years of involvement.

Sincerely

The Di Pietra’s

Best thing we have ever done for our family!
One afternoon in February 2013, my children and I were talking about karate. They decided they would like to give it a go, and later that afternoon they were in the Sunshine Coast Karate dojo - having a free trial lesson and absolutely loving every minute of it.
My husband and I both train now as well. We love that we have the opportunity to train together with our children in their classes, as well as training in the adult sessions. Throughout all of our journeys, Martin, Sandra and Helen have been incredibly supportive. They have a wealth of experience and are excellent teachers, mentors and role models. The family-friendly vibe of the dojo means that our kids feel really welcome, and have made some great new friends - who are all really supportive of each other (a rare commodity in some sports, we have found!).
Without hesitation, I would recommend Sunshine Coast Karate.

This is excellent. The instructors has really made a positive impact on my daughter. She used to be very shy and was getting bullied in school, but since she's started 6 months ago, her confidence and self esteem has really developed, and she loves it here. I just wish that we had started her sooner! We highly recommend this school.
