Rockit Climbing Gym Pty Ltd reviews
20I took day off at work but when I came there, they have been closed, no sign and no answer via their social media which they still use. Absolutely don’t understand what’s going on with other 3 people I met there.
Good fun for the kids in a sunny day. Very friendly staffs, explained everything.thanks team
Use to be good until the new wall went up and the bolder side became a playground for kids when classes finish. Needs sitting area so people aren’t sitting in the walk way or in the mat under someone climbing.
Awesome venue with plenty of climbing options. The instructors were knowledgeable and monitored the children well. Very safe and highly recommend for a kids party or even to test the adults.
The only place on the Sunshine Coast that does indoor rock climbing and bouldering, plus, the prices are reasonable and the staff are helpful. Bouldering routes are rotated regularly. As someone who goes at least a couple of times per week, I would like to see the 'auto-belays' rotated more often, but that's my only issue. Overall, an awesome place to climb for experienced and new climbers.
The walls here are great, and the staff are friendly however they are very understaffed. We waited almost 30 minutes to get harness instruction before being able to climb. There was only 1 staff member on the floor.
This should be improved and it would have been a much better experience
Miggle is the best staff member %100. If you go here make sure to say hi to Miggle he’s the one with the round glasses.
Asked for help for my 7year old girls first time. Just for some tips and pointers and got little to no help. Very poor customer service. No enuthiasum in any of the two staff voices. Very disopointing. My child left feeling deflated, frustrated and not feeling good about her self because she didn't know what she was doing. I even offered to pay for extra help.
Small and genuine climbing gym that seems to be serious about climbing. We went there as an extended gumby family on a stupidly busy day, and the staff were professional, patient, and friendly. Props to Michael for the best safety intro I've had in an Australian climbing gym.
The walls aren't that tall, but they cater to a range of abilities. Plus they've got a good looking bouldering area and climbing training setup if you're minus the family.
Well, for a terribly rainy weekend that thwarted all our outdoor climbing trip plans for Easter, this was better than nothing. We just left. The staff were friendly enough and it was nice to see a varied selection of climbing shoes in the front entrance.
It goes downhill from here.
(My husband and I are 20yr veterans of rock climbing/mountaineering so granted, our expectations are likely much higher than most.)
If you have never climbed before and know next to nothing about climbing - this may be the place for you.
You’ll leave in the same state of ignorance, this is not a place to learn anything about climbing and the staff are pretty green. But you’ll probably enjoy watching your kids take a few routes and no harm done.
Our major complaint lay with the route setting.
It’s pretty bad.
The routes are like ladders. The typical set ting to make a route more difficult is to put smaller holds further away, (but still in a ladder type sequence) and then just remove some feet so you have to smear a blank painted wall to a high step. Honestly, terrible - but clearly just a lack of quality route setting experience.
If you’ve been on great indoor routes- the likes ‘Urban climb’ West End for example, you’ll be greatly disappointed by the routes here.
The belay lowering is very difficult, (but as a plus I don’t think there is any risk of a person falling from the top of a route.
Think old, smooth holds from year 2005 set in a ladder sequence with hard grades just being more stretched apart and smaller and that about sums it up.
The small bouldering gym was better.
The holds are all still really polished and old in feel/style but the problems made sense and were more ‘flowly’.
So all in, in a bit of disrepair throughout, good for a kids party (but don’t expect nice facilities - maybe they will renovate.are they? It was hard to tell).
If your a climber, don’t go unless very desperate. It’s worth it to drive to Brisbane to go to Urban climb or just climb outdoors.
Would likely never go back unless truly desperate to burn out forearms.
I’ve been coming here every Wednesday and usually another couple days a week for the past year. The holds have been recently upgraded for some courses which is great! The staff are always lovely to deal with and very into climbing, they’re great to ask for advice as well. The top rope and bouldering sides are very different but both offer high quality courses, I hope they expand the bouldering room soon to compete with ‘Flow’ though.
When Flow opened, my group made the decision to stay members at Rockit as they offered a great discount on gear and have top-rope which is nice for training the forearms. However, the main reason is because the course setting has a more accurate difficulty range where if you’re generally at a ‘Green’ course skill level, you can work on all of the greens and they are great problems to work on. At Flow, it’s generally either too easy or too hard, so can get boring.
Pros:
1. Top-Rope and Bouldering
2. Accurate course difficulties
3. Friendly, knowledgeable staff
4. Excellent members pricing
5. Regular changes to courses
Cons:
1. I don’t like the painted walls, makes it hard to sprawl your feet up the wall.
Overall, a great place that has been the only gym on the Sunshine Coast for years. Will continue to support you guys, thanks!
Great fun! We went there with two adults and three kids (aged between 4 and 6). Thanks to their five automated walls, the kids and adults could all have a proper go at climbing. The older kids made it to the top of a few walls (the adults not so much), so perfect difficulty variety. We'll be back!
Almost impossible to climb as a family if kids under 13 as they aren’t allowed to belay or enter the bouldering gym
The climbs in the top rope section are always very pour and could do with some updated holds and better routes set. The boulder area is much better though small in size.
I have young kids and would not take them here again.
[Bouldering section review] - super friendly staff. For some reason they painted over their gripped walls with gloss paint, so you cannot use the walls for moves sometimes. Their V0 - V1 climbs had some extremely slippery grips most beginners would struggle with. Higher level climbs are more up to par.
A new activity found around Sunny Coast, staff are very friendly. Was very busy and does seem another person is needed but had fun.
Third time being here, and yet to actually be able to have a go, since they've never had hire harnesses available, won't be bothering with a forth attempt
Heaps of different course, including automatic systems that allow you to climb without a buddy, and a whole second room filled with harness-free climbing areas, where you fall off onto mats instead of being lowered down on ropes.
The rates are pretty decent, and there doesn't seem to be a time limit on quiet days. That being said, your arms will die and your legs will turn to jelly, so your body imposes its own time limit
Great staff, always happy to help.
Currently 3 auto belays for solo climbers, or parents to have a hit without kids dropping them:)
Variable difficulties and some gnarly over hangs.
Walls not very high though, but enough to get a workout.
It never rains indoors!
The staff here are awesome, really friendly full of advice and always keen to help.
Lead climbing, top roping and bouldering the gym has it all.
Climbs are reset often enough to keep things interesting.
