Rice Boi reviews
58Heard lots of great things so decided to give it a go while we were visiting for a few days. Went at lunch time when it opened, there was a queue but it moved super fast. Staff were friendly and the meals came out super quick. Delicious vegan options - eggplant fries were surprisingly our favourite!
Had a great lunch here after scuba diving with Sunreef. I had the 10h beef coconut curry, which had a delicious rich sauce, the curry version of beef bourguignon with just the right amount of spice. My wife had the papaya salad with caramelized pork and shrimp, which was very refreshing. We both enjoyed the mango peach bubble tea.
The food is very very good! We had the green chicken curry and the slow cooked beef curry. The food taste was outstanding and the portions big. There was a wait in the line outside which moved fairly fast however there were plenty of tables available, so not sure why the queue. Sit outside as it is noisy when seated inside.
I don't understand the hype. Yes, it was like street food. Stood in line, sat on a tin stool amongst stacks of boxes. Ordered 4 dishes at the bar from a dirty tattered menu. Shouted over the bad music. It was crouded, but noticed only 2 Asian patrons in the whole place, 2 girls at the table next to us. The rest were all white Anglo Saxon.
"Not a good sign, " I thought.
There was nothing Asian about it. None of the wait staff were Asian. None of the cooks were Asian.
Like a junky burger shop, just kids, still in their teens.
There was no aroma of food cooking, yet all 4 dishes arrived within minutes. The crumbed chicken was bland and tasteless, so I dipped it into the sauce that accompanied it. It too was bland and tasteless.
The noodle soup had the same crumbed chicken, only now it was soggy and sunk to the bottom of the bowl. I think it all came out of the same bucket and was heated in the microwave.
The 2 Asian girls got up and left, their food almost untouched. Maybe to go find something to eat.
It's obvious to me, after reading the other reviews, that many people love this sort of swill, but if your tastes extend beyond the tradies food van, or outback petrol stations, I suggest you avoid Rice Boi, and go find a proper restaurant that cooks fresh Asian food.
So we have eaten here about 10 times and the food is always awesome. But tonight the service was 10 stars I would like to thanks Henery who has the hardest job in the world as the host he did Rice Boi proud we were a table of 10 and he made sure that even though we had top wait 45 mins we were acknowledged and that was half the battle.also Chelsea and Los who were great behind the bar they were so focused on ensuring we had a great night I cannot help but be impressed with their service and their bar skills well done ladies. All in all a dinne that is usually a 9 out of 10 tonight was a 11 out of 10, thank you guys you were awesome
Love the food here. I wake up some days craving the 10hr beef. Great place, music, staff and vibes. It's now become a weekly ritual!
If you're visiting Mooloolaba you have to add this to your list. Don't let the que deter you, it moves quick. Best green curry I've ever had.
You know what? They just updated their price on their flagship item (charcoal chicken rice bowl) by 4 bucks all at once. Not classy. Minus one star.
Walked past this place yesterday at about noon and there was a queue of people waiting to get in. Apparently Rice Boi does not do reservations and is a very popular Asian restaurant. Long story short, as I am always on the look out for a new dining experience and we went there tonight at 5 for dinner so we did not have to wait in a queue, which I was told starts at about 5.30.
Sure enough the place was already packed. We got a table outside, we go a menu and were told to order at the counter, which i did, bit like a pub.
Yes its Asian and yes its ok, but 5 stars… I don’t think so. Looks to me as a place for the locals to have a quick meal and a drink, but that’s about all. Much better places with much better atmosphere to dine at in Mooloolaba. But hey its a busy place.
This place was highly recommended but I felt the food wasn't as great as the recommendation suggested make a spare time if you are going in the weekend or busy lunch period as there might be a wait
Food was tasty but way too much coriander just plonked on top? Menu limited not enough selection. Music too loud and bopping teenage waitress’s didn’t add to the experience. Still eating and was asked if they could have our dishes? Buy more if you don’t have enough.
Won’t go back.
Sorry it's not about the food, food is great. The issue is getting into a business that discriminates against it's customers and only allows a certain class of people to dine in. Yuck! Shame on you for supporting and enforcing a corrupt government decision.
The food here is awesome. It is my favourite restaurant on the coast. You have to try the 10hr coconut braised beef
The best! Our second time here and we were not disappointed. It's a busy place, so arrive early.
Overrated. Does it’s job as a street food takeaway business cause that’s the standard of the food they serve. Not restaurant quality at all. Eggplant chips were really oily couldn’t even finish them. Salmon curry was pretty much coconut cream out of a can.
Best food on the Sunshine Coast by far! I’ve lost count how many times I’ve eaten at rice boi & every time the food blows me away. The flavours are to die for & the service is always fast & friendly. There is usually a line up that can look a bit daunting but it always moves pretty quickly & it’s definitely worth the wait!
This place was mind blowing! 10/10 highly recommend.it's walk in only so make sure you get there early as it's in high demand (for good reason) and the line up went for ages. Bar staff were accommodating and made me an espresso Martini with no caffeine (wanted a milky cocktail) and it was the best cocktail I think I have had (coconut cocktail Wade with Malibu) everyone at the table also wanted to order one.
Atmosphere was so good.
I ordered the salt and pepper calamari. WOW. Also tried the eggplant chips I think it was and they were great. Overall, not one person of our table of 15 seemed unhappy and that's impressive
Food was tasty. Not good value though, especially when the most recent menu online for take away had prices that were 25% lower than what they charge when you order at the counter. When I queried this, I was told the prices changed last week. Surely that is long enough ago that the website should reflect this accurately. The black hair in my meal (not mine), discovered at the end, wasn't a nice touch either. Very, very disappointing when trying to support local business.
The que outside was a little off putting, but we didn't have to wait long.
Very busy inside.
Great menu, very quick service.
Food is amazing. Great slow cooked Beef curry and Green Curry.
Definately worth a visit
Holy WOW! Just popped in for lunch, had to wait in line for about 15 minutes but so so worth the wait. We had the eggplant chips, the edamame, the duck bao and the char sui pork pancakes to share between two. All 10/10, would probably rate the duck bao 12/10 to be honest, I've never seen duck fall off the bone like that AND be crispy on the outside. We just walked home with three containers of leftovers (portions are large) raving about how good it was, and planning our return to try other dishes.
