Outback at Isa reviews
69Disappointing that there was nothing to look at without paying. Thank heavens the air cond was free.
The guide, Bill, was A. M. A. Z. I. N. G. Ten stars out of ten. This place is worth a visit. Going down into the mine, the exhibits, amazing. We booked in prior to going, as the group sizes are small. Don't miss this one.
Both the underground mine and the underground hospital tours were unique and exceptional in their presentation of history and the human story they told. These are an absolute must see in Mt Isa. Could not fault either and they are a credit to the people of Mt Isa who have brought them to fruition. Thanks to all involved for bringing so much valuable knowledge to visitors. 5 stars plus!
We would just like to give a massive shout out to Michelle. She is honestly one of the most kindest lady’s we’ve ever met. As backpackers it is so refreshing to find such a friendly and helpful person. We arrived in mount isa and we had a pretty long wait to get our greyhound bus, so on the off chance we thought we would ring the outback to see if they have any luggage storage facilities as they are right at the bus stop and this would save us taking all our heavy luggage all around the shops. We was fortunate enough to speak to Michelle and she was more than happy to help and allowed us to store our luggage there. On arrival, Michelle was very friendly, smiley and she gave us information about the facilities we could use, surrounding area and was so polite and caring. We would like to thank you so much you made our trip in isa a very pleasant and enjoyable one.
Lots to do there. Reversely fossil display, underground mine & art gallery. Gallery was free others cost. Modern, well set put with great facilities and a nice coffee shop and if you visit in summer, air conditioned. They also serve as booking agents for the rest of the attractions in town. People were supper helpful and well informed.
Underground mine tour with guide Luke was a really great way to learn about the mining history of Mt Isa that is continuing today and for a great many years to come
Its has a nice cafe and gift shop and some gardens and musesum and much more. Very friendly staff. Qorth a visit
Nice and frendly town to visit.tour operator in town nice motel to stay typical mining town in Auralia nice drive from Brisbane to mont isa.
Outback at Isa is the central hub of all attractions relevant to Mount Isa and general information of both surrounding areas & locally.
Alan Rackham and his wonderful trainee guides Edna and Carol were the best, I never enjoyed a guided tour as much as I did when I visited the Riversleigh Fossil Centre at Isa in the Outback. Well done and it’s definitely worth seeing and learning about Riversleigh from Alan. He is the treasure of Mt Isa!
Outback at Isa is a really interesting place to go to. Has historical history and a deadly little cafe to sat at.
How disappointing. Walked in all staff just stared at us and couldn’t even greet us. Had no idea where we could or couldn’t go. After looking like a bunch of idiots we walked out.
Thoroughly enjoyed our tour, plenty of real equipment given its a tourist mine, well worth a look,
Thoroughly enjoyed this experience with Ian as our guide. It was the first time I'd seen the mining process firsthand.
It was interesting to hear the history and the discovery of the deposits as well as the evolution over time related to mining and the town of Mount Isa.
Also spent lots of time looking through the displays which went into more detail
Wasn't sure what to do in Mount Isa. We were travelling through but decided to stop as we needed the rest.
There are a couple of free activities you can do here; go in the art gallery and watch the informational video about the mining industry. There is also a book swap area - we sat here for quite a while.
For us, the tours were too expensive. As we are one long journey, we cannot afford to a tour like this in every place we visit. If tours were more around the $10/$14 point we probably would have considered it. But we understand that these things are expensive to run and maintain.
Cafe was very good, the best mocha I've had in a long time!
Toilets very good and clean!
This would have to be a must if you visit. Just a lovely spot for browsing and getting good info from the efficient and friendly staff. Great parking and a nice little area outside for photos etc. I'd recommend this BEFORE you go and do anything.
This centre provide hot shower in clean modern ammenities for the travelling public at a cost of $2 for hot water easily 5 mins. A well stocked information centre staffed by people who are friendly and knowledgeable
Had a great two days here. Staff are so friendly and helpful. Tours are great. Did the mine tour with Ian and the fossil tour with Ross. When you do the fossil tour do it with a guide and see the laboratory and have all the exhibits explained.
The Reception at the desk was friendly and helpful. The Hard Times Mine tour was great. Steve the tour guide was full of good stories about the mines, we got to meet Allan who is a legend in the mine. Couldn't go to Mt Isa without doing this tour.
Unfortunately I didn't have time to complete all the tours but what I saw I enjoyed. The staff were friendly, very helpful and I thoroughly enjoyed the exhibits. Had a great breakfast admittedly a late one at the Cafe too. Looking forward to going back to complete the tours.
