Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts reviews
20I bought two tickets in advance to the show called “Flamingo” as a surprise for our 42nd wedding anniversary. It was the best thing I’ve done in my life. The show was an absolute success, unbelievable, colourful, with great dancing and excitement. Fantastic voices and guitarists The venue has lovely comfortable seats and friendly ushers.
This show is a MUST SEE! Authentic Flamenco was the most spectacular, awe inspiring dance and musical event I’ve seen. The staff, seating and venue were outstanding. I’d attend another show here in a heartbeat. Thank you Fever for offering this incredible event and choosing Judith Wright Arts Centre as the venue! Well done everyone! Thank you
A wonderful venue for performing arts in an intimate setting. The art gallery is also, always worth a look
My favourite memory of Judith Wright Centre was when I was given the opportunity to meet and photograph Archie Roach. I picked him, his manager, and his niece up from the hotel where they were staying and offered them a ride up to the Judith Wright Centre, where he was playing, in my 1991 Ford EA Falcon station waggon. I parked out the front of the venue, and my car stalled, which, in my opinion, would not have made a good first impression. I went to park my car and then met them again. I had about 4 minutes to photograph him and then we watched them play a few songs. He was very down to earth, and I am still grateful that he allowed me to photograph him.
A nice gallery to stroll through once in a while (and come back when you have more time).
Thought provoking art helps broadening one's insight.
The store always has something that'll catch your attention.
Lovely to be back after it was closed for a revamp lots of rooms to explore in the gallery space and live dance/theatre upstairs. The revamp looks great much brighter space
Excellent venue. Convenient parking across the road. Kylie Gilbert-Moore speaking with Peter Greste for the Brisbane Writer's Festival 2022. Well organised and run event.
The place is quite easy to find. The inside is very modern and nice atmosphere. Great experience in general.
Good arts centre, the main performing hall is a good size and because the chairs are movable it helps with social distancing if need be. The security are very professional and helpful. My one criticism is how small the bathrooms are. The women's bathroom had a line of 20 people during the intermission despite the men's being almost empty. Overall a great place though
Recently went to view the Yhonnie Scarce 'Missile Park' exhibition, a real privilege in COVID times.
The work was beautifully hung and installed with major pieces available to view. Unfortunately we entered from a side access and were left wondering around trying to find the exhibit. Poor signage but helpful staff.
An amazing building with many facets.
A viewing of 'Maralinga Tjarutja' the 2020 documentary in the screening room was beautifully intimate with a staff member that made the whole experience wonderful.
I attended an aerial class with CIRCA, it was my first time at the Judith Wright Centre and the building is beautiful and the diverse programs they run is inspiring.
Great for live performances. We've been here 4-5 times and never watched a show we didn't like.
A great performance space & theatre! Friendly & thorough staff! I saw "Women in Voice" twice! It was Carol Lloyds last performance before her fatal Illness was announced! The former singer of Railroad Gin was absolutely unforgettable in this highly spiritual & soulful show! All the women had amazing voices but Carol was outstanding! I'll never forget it!
Under construction, the exhibition space I visited was cold and all concrete. The staff serving the drinks didn’t even know the name of the show that was on.so that was pretty bad. I think the main gallery is under refurbishment so this space will hopefully improve when that work is completed.
Helpful staff, directed me and my family to where we needed to be, explained exactly what product we needed. Took a while to get someone's help is my only criticism.
Really awesome hall. Had my vocal class concert in there. There is a parking right across the road of it on Berwick Street. You can book online for $10 (flat rate).
A great location in the Valley. A good space with comfortable auditorium, friendly staff with nice light but can be difficult to navigate without direction.
Out of the way but give it a chance. Perhaps visionary location given the direction China town is disappearing (headed).
I have been to aboriginal dance concert plus junk art exhibition here. It is very arty. I love it.
Great venue! Parking is opposite and they validate tickets there so you can get cheaper rates. They always put on interesting shows and help build the community of independent dance/theatre artists.
