FLINDERS AQUATIC ACADEMY reviews
5Lovely Environment, Damien and David are excellent coaches and mentors for these children together with the friendly and supportive staff.
My family are visiting the Sunshine Coast on holidays. My daughter is a keen swimmer and wanted to continue her training whilst we were away. She trained with Rod who made her feel at ease right from the start and the other kids were so welcoming of her. Rod is such a kind man who really took time to give my daughter some great swimming instruction. She would leave her sessions brimming with enthusiasm and excited for the next session. Thank you for having us.
This swim academy is professionally run by Sunshine Coast Olympic Coach Chris Mooney, and his wife Erin. They have a great learn to swim programs and a fantastic squad program for all levels. Would highly recommend this program to Sunshine Coast parents and competitive swimmers.
I booked my 3 year old and 2 year old in at Flinders Aquatic Academy because I saw that two Olympic Coaches were leading this business and their program looked solid. As an ex-swimmer myself, the pathway from Learn to Swim to Squad Training was important to me. I am very happy with the program and after 3 terms at Flinders, I'm very satisfied with my children's progression and the outlook for their future as Flinders Swimmers!
Absolutely the best place for your kids to learn how to swim.
When we visited, our kids had beginner lessons in the indoor pool (half an hour per day). One of them improved out of sight.from previously always being supported by a coach or buoyancy aid, to doing 10+ metres of proper unsupported freestyle within a week. The other one went from vehemently not wanting to even get into the pool at the start of the lesson, to having so much fun he didn't want to get out at the end. Full credit to the coaches for both their teaching skill and their ability to work with a couple of difficult kids!
We also saw some of the big kids training in the outdoor pool. The coaches didn't just have them cutting laps, but mixed it up with a variety of techniques, races and other interesting activities.
If we didn't live in another state, our kids would already be enrolled here. Will definitely be coming back next time we visit the Sunshine Coast!
Details.
Staff: welcoming, friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and great with kids. Turns out the current managers also have decades of experience coaching our Olympic swimmers too, so they have the expertise to take them right through to elite level.
Outdoor pool: looked like a 25 metre with eight lanes, starting blocks at one end, and stadium seating. When we visited (winter) it was heated.
Indoor pool: unsure of the length (guessing 20 metres), two nice wide lanes, and everything you need for beginners. Shallow entry and ledge, standing depth for adults, movable underwater platforms for kids, a variety of fun flotation devices and toys.
Accessibility: unsure about facilities for getting into/out of the pools with assistance (maybe call them to check if you need that). Otherwise, step-free access to everywhere except the stadium seating. Nice large accessible/family changerooms with change tables & showers, including shower seats.
Parking: ample parking just out the front, at least when we visited (winter school holidays). Not sure whether that changes during term-time.
Other: the front desk has a small shop (drinks, snacks, swimming goggles, etc.)
