Fitness First / Goodlife Health Clubs Elizabeth Street reviews
33Should be a great gym, but have whittled down services over time, dirty showers - and be mindful of membership packages - they’re super petty when it comes to anything re fees!
Good gym, fix the steam room (not really a steam room if it’s not hot) and you get 5 stars
I attend reformal pilates. First time tried pirates, easy to start. Good! Clean and friendly instructors!
Best gym in the city. Wish it was 24 hours. I love the 3 levels. Spacious areas available to set up your own workout. Squat racks are of great quality. Only improvement would be the toilets in the women's area. Some of the doors don't even shut so you can't lock it. Love the Sauna and steam room. Classes are perfectly set up with great equipment. Only improvements needed is better music, sometimes there is no music. The bathrooms need to be updated.
After it became Goodlife, it got really bad. Bad cleaning always lack paper towels in the bathrooms and they don't repair the equipment that often only has one. Opening hours are also terrible
Was still branded as Fitness First when I visited. It changed to Goodlife the previous week. The receptionist let me use the gym, though there's no reciprocal arrangement in place.
All in all, I think this is one of the best venues in the CBD to train.however, this won't last long unless this club receives the love it deserves.
Some equipment needs replacing/repair. Bath hygiene is not good and water fountains struggle. Opening hours has been reduced which is not good either.
The gym was great loved the place and layout, However the Personal trainers didn't even smile or greet a welcoming attitude
They keep charging my card with miscellaneous penalties which I am never aware of and keep deducting money from my bank account even after I fully paid my 3 months subscription - I was informed that I will be in debt if I refuse to pay. I will be in debt for $$$$$$$$ that I never signed or agreed for! What a traumatic experience with this club!
And lastly they closes between 7-8pm on weekdays while open till 12nn on Sundays - such a waste of money!
The place should be renamed Fitness Museum. When it first launched, it was a ‘Platinum Club’ and offered state of the art facilities and equipment. How the mighty have fallen, it is now on life support and an endangered species.
Great location and space, and it is wonderful to have electronic locker systems, however that is where the positives end. The company has for too many years rested on their laurels, and did not reinvest any of the profits back into the gym during the good times. The equipment is old, rusting and breaking down (see the ‘out of order’ rusted treadmills with ripped fabric on the upper level, the bikes that do not power on, the rowing machines that make a very sick noise when in use, the computers that used to display group fitness timetables that haven’t been working for months and have now been taken away, the main clock on the weights level that fell down, shattered, and has not been replaced). Some handy (and cheap) acccesories like ab wheel rollouts and half round rollers no longer feature around the gym. The place is always a mess, with equipment and used wipes left all over the place and no one to clean it up. Air conditioning is underpowered (or turned on low to save money). Classes have been cut because more innovative brands have taken customers away (F45, Atora, Bodyfit, Fitstop, etc).
Reception staff hate their jobs, and would not be missed if they were replaced by a swipe machine or robots. Some are so efficient and like to turn off the air conditioning, music, TVs and clocks 15 minutes before closing time. Management are no better and don’t respond to emails. All the quality personal trainers have left (apart from Dexter) and replaced by a bunch of new kids. Seeing a PT on the floor past 6pm is a rare occurrence.
The Studio XT room is wasted space and does not get used by anyone (There are two massive studios on level 3 which is sufficient). Knock the wall down where the mirrors currently are on level 2 in front of Studio XT and extend the weights area into that room (along with a few pieces of new equipment, which would be a refreshing and much needed addition). The gym is missing key equipment like SkiErg, stair climbers, seated calf raise, etc like every other basic gym has.
The music is most depressing, especially listening to useless adverts and hygiene/COVID notices. Other gyms have huge screens with people undertaking motivational workouts, more upbeat music, and overall better atmosphere compared to the cemetery vibe you get working out here.
The hours of operation are embarrassing (especially closing at 12pm on a Sunday). I would like the option to train the morning or afternoon, and not have this dictated to me. Fitness First is supposed to be the ‘premium’ brand of FLG, the membership prices are higher yet the facilities and opening hours are lacklustre compared to Goodlife. It is clear that brand has no future, with a number of club closures over the years, the most recent being Indooroopilly (which has now relaunched in a new location in the shopping centre as a Goodlife). Goodlife in Queen St Mall operates until 8.30pm on weekdays and 5pm on weekends. Fitness First should mirror those hours or just close completely on weekends and let their members train at Goodlife on those days (since it is owned by the same parent company).
Keep fleecing and mistreating your customers, and they will continue to leave in droves as they are currently doing. Blaming COVID is not an excuse, the rot has being going on for years. If you want to see how a real gym is run, take a visit to somewhere like World Gym in Stafford or any EMF, it is just a pity none are close to the CBD (yet). New gyms are expected to open at 360 Queen Street and Waterfront Brisbane in the future, so one would hope Fitness First has plans underway for a complete refurbishment of its current premises.
It’s one of the best fitness club in Brisbane. Steam, Sauna and plenty of weights, training session for your choice with a great fitness instructor. A great place to exercise after work in the city and specially always clean.
Good opening hours, lots of space, friendly staff and a permanent locker. The equipment is relatively old though.
Gym is decent but the music is really, really bad, and they play ads on their own music station and the clock doesn't even show when they do so you can't time your rest periods using the tv's.
Good gym, plenty of space to exercise and classes options. Good lockers/showers amenities with iron, ironing board, hair dryer and hair straightener provided.
Before covid classes were getting a bit crowded and it would be amazing it there was a limited number of people that can attend and if you could sign in beforehand.
I have been a member of this gym since it opened about a decade ago and it is definitely, hands down, the best gym in Brisbane.
The amount of space is great and even during peak times it is never too crowded as there are three levels. Gym equipment is well looked after and members are courteous to one another and equipment/weights are usually returned to its correct place. Staff are also always helpful and friendly, and during COVID they seemed to have worked well together in keeping everything clean and have communicated any changes to member when needed.
Keep it up FF Brisbane CBD!
Best gym Iv ever been with!
Lots of space, good equipment, friendly staff, don’t understand the reviews to be fair?
Recommend to everyone
Great boutique gym. Been a member over a year now, love the bring s friend on the weekend promotion, hope they continue.
Equipment are old. Classes are at odd times and clumped together rather than spread apart. Playlist makes you want to go to sleep instead of working out hard.
Didn't get an induction and the free 2 PT sessions i was supposed to get and also took unnecessary payments out of my account 2 times.
I just got off the phone with someone from Fitness First in Brisbane and am quite appalled at the way the woman spoke to me and laughed at me over the phone. I called to enquire as to why I am still being charged after requesting a membership cancellation in January. At the time I was told that Im still within my 18 month contract and that it would finish by end of June. But apparently because COVID happened they essentially extended my payment period by the amount of time it had to be on freeze due to the pandemic. But Ive moved over an hours drive away from the nearest Fitness First and nobody bothered to let me know that this was going to happen. I also lost my job due to the pandemic and I tried to say that I would have liked a courtesy email at the very least to let me know that they were going to charge me beyond what I initially agreed to (whats on my contract). Im basically now having to pay them retrospectively because of the pandemic - a service which they couldnt provide then and a service I cant access now because Ive moved. How is that fair? Also quite disgusting for someone to be laughing at you as though you are ridiculous for asking questions about it - and I know how tough it can be to work in customer service so I actually tried really hard to not take my frustrations out on her personally and I spoke calmly and politely throughout the conversation and she was just a nasty.well you can guess.
Unhygienic and incredibly poor customer service. Management need better training in customer service and hygiene practices, overall a small gym that is most of the time is crowded, this along with opening hours that are not flexible will guarantee you won't get your moneys worth.
