Chumley Warner's Traditional British Fish & Chips reviews
70Arrived with high expectations prompted by reviews, only to be profoundly let down. Endured a wait exceeding 30 minutes for the food, and the experience took a nosedive from there. The bitter flavor of an entire serving of cheesy fries forced us to discard it, leaving a sour taste in our mouths. The potato scallops suffered from sogginess, and the battered cod dripping in oil, contributed to the overall dismay.
Proper British chips and curry sauce. Yum. However, I paid an extra $35 for a bottle of Vimto cordial and 5 packets of stale crisps. Disappointed.
Got the cod and chips with a side of curry sauce, plenty of salt on all of it and tasted amazing. Although chips weren’t very crispy which i’m not sure if that is that traditional way or not, they still tasted great.
Food was very good and a the portions were big. It tasted just like a chippy back in the UK. There is also a small selection of other British products which you can buy such as bovril, oxo, pasties etc
I left the UK 14 years ago an this is only decent fish and chips I've had since, definitely worth the wait. Had cod and chips which was $13.95 and worth every cent, huge portion of chips, amazing fish, so much better than Aussie style dry chips and flavourless fish. An hours drive for me but I don't care, will be back soon.
A taste of the UK in Australia.
It's the most authentic British food I've tried outside of England. But pricey but ok for a treat every now and again.
Genuinely authentic British chippy experience. Food was amazing and the atmosphere was perfect.
Great value for money and the place is always busy due to its popularity.
Only reason it didn't get 5 stars is because of the wait time, understandable I guess on a Saturday but 40 minutes is a long time.
However the wait was worth it, the food cod and chips, curry sauce and Vimto drink transported me back to my childhood, thankyou
Always enjoy coming here for a treat out. Friendly staff, large portions and something different. Wish there were more of these around.
Friendly staff, excellent and authentic food. Brilliant range and value for money and UK beers on tap! BRILLIANT
Very disappointing - this place used to serve good quality fish/batter every time we went. Our fish (yet again) was terrible! Batter was hard and greasy. Fish was cooked very average. Chips are excellent though but won't be back
Today I discovered something that will forever change my world, Chumley Warner's Traditional British Fish and Chips serves kebabs, and not only that but also snack packs. I ordered said snack pack in size small and let me tell you I could hardly make a dint, the small size would be considered a regular and any old kebab shop. On top of this the meat used in it was the highest quality I've seen in a kebab, using chicken kebab, lamb kofta and Tandoori chicken meat. The Tandoori meat was an unexpected addition but works perfectly and on top of this, the bottom is filled with Chumley's famous British chip. I can hands down say this was one of best best and most exciting and fresh snack packs I've ever had. This is honestly the first time I've seen these menu items in a place that wasn't a kebab store and they have honestly outdone their competition; I couldn't emphasise more that you must try one of their kebabs.
Authentic British fish and chips with loads of vinegar. A bit out of the way but definitely worth it. One of us is from Birmingham and loves it. Plenty of parking
Absolutely amazing food and its proper British food as well, cooked and served by British staff whonare super friendly. I've lived in Australia for a few years now and it made me a little emotional and homesick as it took me right back home. Well worth a visit
Held a celebration of life for my late husband on Sunday. Adrian and the team were amazing. Food was great and so much of it. It was Mick's favourite place to eat. Everybody that came enjoyed the food. Many of them were British but my Australian friends love the food as well.
Would definitely recommend for an affordable get together.
Absolutely delicious, I had the battered jumbo sausage and chips and it tasted like home. We will definitely be going back:)
Nearly $17 for a piece of battered cod is outrageous. The size wasn’t even any larger than a usual piece at any shop. Service was great but not worth the expense.
Always great but they struggle with wait times. Don’t mind waiting but fish and chips should be less than an hour!
As a Northern Lass who has been living in Aus for nearly 14 years, this is first time I have found a chippy who advertises a proper British feed that actually lives up to it! It really is exactly how I remember it from back home. Delicious food, friendly service, very reasonable prices. I couldn't fault it. Can't wait to be back!
Popular for a reason. Not the cheapest, but dam it tastes good. Service was great, friendly people doing something they seem to love, and every customer seems genuinely delighted.
