Choi Kwang Do reviews
13My oldest son loves going to CKDMA. It has helped with he's self esteem and behaviour
We totally recommend the Choi Kwang Do Master Academy on Riverway for children starting out on their martial arts journey. Master Bruce is incredibly kind, patient and welcoming. My son is having a fantastic time learning new skills in a safe and values oriented environment.
I'm a student in the teens class, and I find it fun doing martial arts with friends and learning new drills. I value all that I have learnt, and continue to look forward to my lesson. This Dojang is led by a great instructor called Master Bruce Cairney, it's such a great place to be a part of.

I have been training under Master Bruce for roughly 1 month, i found he is extremely professional, approachable and definitely interested in assisting me with my techniques through online sessions. It is hard since i am not in townsville, but through Master Bruce guidance i strive on improving all the time.
If you are really serious about your martial arts training you need to spend the money and trained under one of the best Masters. From my experience Choi Kwang Do is a unique system which is very adaptable and you can bring those techniques to the martial arts system you are familiar with.
Overall i am extremely pleased to be trained under Master Bruce with Master Academy.

Our 5yo son looks forward to his lessons, has been great for his learning self discipline as well. Highly recommend
Very poor experience from the start, I felt like I was forced to sign up straight away when I would have liked to explore other options including other Choi Kwang Do schools, there have been a few incidents with my daughter within the last 8 months or so which have not been dealt with properly, and to top it all off, my daughter earned her black belt in mid May and still has not received her formal black belt which has caused her to lose interest which has caused her to be lose her junior instructor status. The owner of the school seems to be more interested in the money aspect of the business more than the students. You take criticism so poorly.
Oh and by the way, rehashing old information/responses to make look like a new response, and sharing confidential client information is unprofessional and makes you look bad
I signed my daughter up to Choi Kwang Do when she was 6 years old. She is now 23 and still there. They have taught her many things, not just how to defend herself, and are part of her family.
Great place for the entire family.fun exercise and the kids learn self discipline and how to defend them self.highly recommended

One sunny morning ruffly five years ago I was walking past Master Bruce School and he invited me in to have a look around at the Martial Art School. I decided that "Choi Kwang Do" is what I was looking for in that point of time in my life & I have never looked back.
I had a lot of difficulty with my left and right as I had some co ordination obstacles which I was facing. My Coordination had improved dramatically over the years as well as my Blood Sugar levels as I am a type 1 Diabetic (Insulin Dependent).
I am a proud Student & Assistant Instructor & (Choi Kwang Do) has changed my life. I wear my Black Belt with pride & respect & I am due to test for my 2nd Degree Black Belt in 2019. Choi Kwang Do is for all ages & we cater for everyone & age isn't a barrier I have seen this first hand myself.
Thank you Master Bruce for your help over the years & for your support to get me to Black Belt I couldn't have done this without every one support.
On the 22nd of October 2015 I tested for my Black Belt over in South Korea & by far this is one of the best moment in my life & now I have Choi Kwang Do family in all different countries from all around the world.
Friendly Staff & Instructor's as well as students & parents at the martial arts school.

My son started Choi Kwang Do under Master Bruce at age 6. He is now 15 and will test for his 3rd Dan next year. The ability to strive in pressure situations, respect elders, reach goals and improve personal fitness has been a pleasure to watch over this time. In this day and age having the knowledge that my son can handle any situation be it confrontational or not gives me as a parent great confidence that my son will develop into a well balanced adult. I to started once my son started Junior classes and still going and enjoying it. Not only is this a great place to start your kids on the right track but gave me an outlet to improve my fitness and meet like minded people. Get out and give it a go.
I hate seeing bad reviews, a lot of them seem to be of a personal nature rather than an honest review of the service received. Reviews should be a balanced review of the service received and the experience had. Many of the bad reviews seem to be trying to settle a vendetta or excuse why your no longer going to the school.
I met Master Bruce at the 30th UK seminar in London this year. So friendly, helpful and a pleasure to meet. Despite the miles between us he has offered to take time out of his busy schedule to help mentor me, in running my own school.
When reading reviews bear in mind that not everyone gets on, as Instructors we love to teach and try our best to give the best instruction to all. If a student does not want to learn, no matter how good we are, we won’t and can’t force them to learn. If you want something you need to work for it, not expect it just because you think your good enough. We are human to and have bills to pay just like you. Just as you go to work to get paid we do to and try our best to keep the costs as low as is reasonably possible.
Take reviews with a balanced approach and try a class or two before making your own mind up.

It's a shame to see good people being slandered. Master Bruce has attended international Choi Kwang Do seminars for more than 25 years. I've known him for 15 years; first meeting him at a Choi Kwang Do seminar in Scotland in 2003. Master Bruce is a senior Master and is well respected in the international community for his contributions to the organisation, knowledge and sense of humour. I've had the experience of meeting many of his instructors in Korea (2015), the USA (2007,2012 & 2017), England (2013 & 2018) and at the NQ Games in Cairns in (2016). CKD MAC is based in a small city but its owner travels across the globe to keep up-to-date with the best practices for instruction, assessment and administration. Definitely a safe place to learn confidence, respect and discipline with long term opportunities for international experience.
Choi Kwang Do follows a universally structured international program of the highest standard and integrity, and welcomes students of all ages and any fitness level, as training is catered to the individual.
The Thuringowa school offers a welcoming and friendly environment, and the school owner has over 30 years experience in martial arts.
I have been training here consistently for almost 7 years, and have been an instructor for 5 years. Throughout this time Choi has by far been the best aspect of my life, as it has encouraged me to improve my confidence, self esteem and motivation to the point that I wouldn't recognize myself from before.
It has also allowed me fantastic opportunities in traveling overseas to the UK and South Korea, to develop lifelong friendships with like-minded people from all over the world.
