40 I'm lucky that I have a great support person who is a Buddhist nun.
Worth going too
Long standing, working, Tibetan Buddhist monastery perched on a steep hill in surrounds of Eudlo. Offers courses on aspects of Buddhism and meditation carried out by the resident and visiting Sangha. Always outreaching to provide insights to those who seek, considerable infrastructure upgrades past few years have enabled a professional learning and meditation environment to the casual visitor or resident course attendee.
As well as a well stocked shop, and yummy delicious café, the entire site offers good energy and plenty of interest even for the casual visitor.
The Gompa (prayer hall) is situated in a steep hill and although major upgrades have been made to facilitate visits by the disabled, these could be a challenge for the physically disadvantaged.
A very interesting venue run by a very enthusiastic and dedicated team. We’ll work a visit
A beautiful Buddhist retreat in the hills near Eudlo. This place has The Big Love Cafe for coffee & cake. If booked the day before, you can even get a delicious, vegetarian lunch. Very peaceful
Disrespected when being interviewed for a potential volunteer position by the volunteer coordinator, not embodied in wisdom nor kindness in which I’d experience visiting in person. Follow up call with the director was dismissive and invalidating of poor treatment. A shame, reflects poorly on not embodying the teachings of where they reside. Great experience staying and meeting the nuns/monks but via video calls, very poor from women that seem to have issues with a young feminine looking woman.
Stumbled on this place looking for a vegetarian meal. Fascinating place with lots to explore. The people are very welcoming. Worth a visit for something different up in the mountains. Definitely try the food.
Lots for everyone here, whether you want to have a meal and a wander, attend a meditation, a teaching or a ceremony. We love our visits.
For a Buddhist to find a monastery in this far off land was heart touching. The centre was founded in 1974 by Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche. It was one of the first Tibetan Buddhist centres established in the western world and remains one of the largest.so said by my nephew and daughter in law. Got to share the table with GesheTsultrim for lunch as he kindly invited the 6 of us for lunch. Being Maghe Sankrati a big festival of Nepali we got to eat sweet potato for lunch… a blessing for us Nepali…. Chatted in Hindi with Geshe… and we promised to come and cook Ima Dashe.cuisine of Bhutan which he wanted to have. Received a Tara each from him too. Best place to meditate heal & awaken spiritually. …It was wonderful to find books written by Luke Davis, Australian married to a Nepali who works in Lincoln School Kathmandu.
Peaceful.loving energy.beautiful lunch.beautiful grounds.easy to calm the mind and restore oneself.thank you, Chenrezig.
Chenrezig is a wonderful place of serenity, learning and refuge. I have been a number of times and recently completed Ben Isbel's "mindfulness course" which was excellent. The centre has a deep history and profound lineage which ensures the quality of the teachings, which are available to one and all. If you are looking for the 'real thing' this is it.
I am a space cadet from way back & this place ticks all my boxes, it is unreal, they speak in riddles, insiders understand all, outsiders can only glimpse at the wonder of Buddhism.
The Sunshine Coast is blessed to have the Chenrezig Institute in the heart of its hinterland. Waves of love and compassion flow freely from the mountain, through the ether, to all sentient beings, with the express intention to end all suffering. Love is present in every activity offered, and a visit to the grounds is an opportunity to walk on holy ground. Inspirational monks and nuns, staff, students, and volunteers work tirelessly for the greater good of all.
This is a must visit, on the Sunshine Coast. Peaceful gardens and meditation areas. Vegan restaurant (book ahead) and Cafe. Shop under the restaurant with many Buddhist products. The Garden of enlightenment is fantastic and the art area is worth a stop. Set in rainforest
Our first time visiting the centre this weekend. We booked the tour and the lunch. The tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly and the tour informative and interesting. Do take a hat, sunscreen, water and comfy shoes as there is a bit of walking about involved. It is a very peaceful place with a calm happy vibe. The two people in the shop were a little out of kilter with the rest of the place. Maybe they were having a less than great day? The Chai and food were really nourishing and delicious and felt as though it had been prepared with attention (mindfulness). The Cafe is a great spot to eat at and there were lots of lovely places to eat outside too. Very laid back and casual environment. Not trash touristy at all. The Gompa was cool and peaceful, the nun and lay person in the library quirky and informative and the stupas in the Garden of Enlightenment were beautiful. It was good to learn about their significance. We'll be returning and would recommend the tour etc to anyone who is curious about the place or the philosophy.
Perfect for the wanders eye or to rest and regenerate. Excellent environment to get in touch with nature or to immerse yourself in Tibetan Buddhism. Please see website for up to date calender including events happening, Buddhist teachings, tours of campus, daily practices and so much more.
Tranquil and spiritual. For individual and community practice. Or to learn more about Buddhism.
Chenrezig is a Buddhist training centre as well as a peaceful place to stay at if you need to unwind and be in nature. Modest accommodation and facilities. Listen to the wind in the trees and the birdsong - no noise from interferring Tv's or similar. Just peace and quiet. Bliss
Amazing place to get your Buddhism on, wonderful lessons and workshops. And always wonderful meals at the restaurant / café / dinner (insert it's correct title).
No other place on Earth like this. The peaceful ppl, amazing food and the glorious Gompa (temple). I have been going for over 20yrs now. What I love most is how everyone, young and older are so very welcome, with no judgement whatsoever. Stay for lunch, just have a look, sit in on a class, stay a few nights, up to you. Om mani Padme hum. X
I visited the institute about 2 years ago with Communify & it was a great experience! An absolute blessing to visit this retreat! Fabulous delicious vegetarian cuisine from the cafe! A very serine spiritual environment with great green bushland surrounding the temple! An excellent opportunity to meditate under supervision! A very informative bookshop with gifts & books!
An absolute pleasure to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere with Tibetan monks mingling about the retreat!
